Vegeta's Training Log

Killer stuff. Those squats will come up in no time.

And on a side note, I thought I was the only one in college cafeterias that eats till they’re almost sick. I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one.

Keep up the good work.

MONDAY!! Chest

Had a pretty shitty day today, I didn’t sleep last night because I was up all night doing assignments so I had to hammer through the day with no sleeping. I didn’t eat during the night, nor did I for breakfast since I had so much to do before work at 1-5pm. After work I went straight into the gym but I am rather sick. I had a bad bout of explosive shits in the morning because my stomach was uncomfortable for some reason.

Got into the gym by like 5:15-5:20… I weighed in @ 160.6 jesus christ…

Running on a practically empty stomach then 2 scoops of Jack3d for preworkout we did pretty much what we did last Monday.

I was able to keep up A LOT better this week. I think having a few big meals prior to working out today really helped. I had tons of fuel to use while in the gym. It felt great I was able to keep up with Lee much easier although it was still really friggin tough because we push each other quite a bit, every set. We don’t really count reps but we shoot for 10, if 10 is easy then we just keep going to 12+ up to 15. If it’s really freaking heavy then we do what we can and help each other out for the last few reps just to tear up those muscle fibers real good  I can always keep up with Lee for the first couple of exercises with his weight which is a very taxing working weight, leaving me with not much after a few exercises, but this kind of training to failure and beyond I feel is pretty beneficial to my back growth.

btw I’m totally a brotato in the gym. “COME ON BRO YOU GOT A COUPLE MORE… AT LEAST!!!” hahahahaha

ps. I want to put Lee on a friggin boat or a canoe. I feel like he would row the damn thing 10 times around the world before he got tired

WEDNESDAY!!! Off

Looking good brother!! Keep it up!

3 x 10-12

Machine Preacher Curls
3-4 x 8-12

I think there’s some other stuff I’m forgetting but we supersetted pretty much every tricep movement with a bicep motion and it took us a full 2 hours to finish arms. We did something like 7-8 exercises and 3-5 sets for ea exercise for each bi and then tri.

It’s a few days later now but I’m posting it before I forget everything and my biceps were blasted from the workout. I was sore for almost a good 2 days on my bis which is pretty uncommon since I find they only get slightly sore for a day if at all post workout.

fun stuff! My dieting has been poor lately so my weight is dropping. I’m steadily now ~161-162 pounds, it’s not a huge difference weighing 165 but it makes me wonder if it was all water that i dropped

Very good log so far, looks like intensity is definitely there and you have your head in the right place. Just wondering, is there any reason why you are losing weight? Sorry if I misread something, but it seems like that is what you’re doing.

Sounds like your training with Lee is intense, to say the least haha. Has he competed before?

Start eating! If you have access to the dining hall, there is no reason you shouldn’t be gaining weight. I say that because I lived in the dorms 2 years ago, so I’ve been there haha.

It’s not on purpose. I think it’s mainly because I haven’t had Jack3d in a little while. I ran out of it at some point I think last week and haven’t bothered to pick up another preworkout supplement. I think it could be something to do with the creatine holding in water, but who knows. The days I do weigh 165 or higher I think I’m holding tons of water and still need to take a big dump LOL.

Besides that I’ve been eating like one solid meal a day with little milk/almonds/shakes throughout the day with not a lot of sleep lately.

He hasn’t competed before, he just works out for his own enjoyment like I do. He says he’s trained for a total of 8 years now and he used to be a fattie because he wanted to be huge, fat, and strong but then he changed his goals. He weighed up to 260lbs and was considerably stronger but he said one day he didn’t like being like that; able to push big weights but couldn’t run long distances or go up a flight of stairs without breaking a sweat and breathing heavily. Super strong, but his overall health was declining so he said it was time to make serious changes. He now weighs ~185-190lbs which is about 2 years after being 260lbs and retains about 2/3 to 3/4 of his strength he had back when he was a fattie. He said that initially when he got to the weight of 185 he barely had 1/2 the strength he did when he was big and fat!

Well in any case I have access to the dining hall, but my meal plan is 15 meals/week and it’s too late to change it. That means I can only eat twice a day with the exception of 1 day where I can eat a third meal!! WHOOAAAAaaaaa hahaha

Spring break is coming up at the end of this week so I’ve had shit-tons of work to do. My days are insanely packed at times, sleep 3-8 hours, go to class(es), eat (maybe if time allows)go to work then straight to the gym (they’re both in the mall), eat, hw, repeat. My biggest problem is that I try to squeeze out every last minute of my sleep so I don’t wake up until 10 minutes before class. If I had the will to wake up earlier I would put a meal down but I have a very hard time waking up, always have.

I’m a full time student in my junior year and I work between 25-30 hours a week, I’m not super ultra dedicated to my working out, but it’s a hobby of mine other than working on and autocrossing my car, so I’d like to make the best of given my situation

(notice how the majority of my posts are during ungodly hours, typically after finishing brutal math assignments)

FRIDAY!!! Legs

I didn’t do it on purpose but I skipped this day

I pulled an all nighter Thursday night going into Friday because I was cramming for a math exam that I should have started reviewing for last week  After my exam from 8-9am I came straight back into my room, had some cereal, swallowed a few spoonfulls of peanut butter, ate a banana then skipped the rest of my classes so I could nap a few hours before work from 1-6pm!!!

I ended up missing work [doh got written up for that] because I didn’t wake up from that “nap” really til around 7-8pm. I did wake up a few times before that but I didn’t check the time. I was having some kind of terrible nightmare which I’ll describe below (it’s pretty funny) and every time I woke I was in a puddle of sweat.yuck. Whenever I fell back asleep I went back to the dream exactly where I left off. I didn’t feel good enough to go to the gym since I hadn’t put anything in my stomach for a while.

I’ve been really stressed out lately with school, work, life, so that probably contributes to this all.

Well my dream was REALLY strange at first. I’ll describe it as best as I can because whoever is reading might get a good laugh out of it. [I’m warning you guys, my dream about Gold’s gym gets extremely weird]

So it begins… I was leaving a building on my campus and given directions to walk a certain path so that I would find a Golds gym. For some reason in my dream I was thinking something along the lines of “I’ve always wanted to join a Golds gym. It’s so expensive to join Gold’s Gym. Only the best bb’ers train at Gold’s Gym. I’m going to join Golds gym!” So after a few worthless details I barely remember, I found the Gold’s Gym!

I walk through the door with Lee (he randomly showed up with me I have no prior recollection of remembering him walking with me in the dream)and turn my head around in amazement because it looks so eerie. The ceiling is at least a thousand feet high, it’s dimly lit, and walls are lined with stacks upon stacks of yoga mats with those inflated medicine/yoga balls littered close by. The place resembles a giant warehouse I can’t see the end to and there isn’t much equipment besides a ton of yoga stuff lining the walls and also on shelves. The “main area” has 1 bench press, 1 squat rack, dbs and an array of kettle bells with an olympic rubber plate platform. Me and Lee see some guys doing an impossible exercise (although in my dream I was amazed and pretty impressed.) A relatively big looking guy stands on the bar part of 225lbs (2 plates on each side a 45lb bar) and then uses a pinch grip with each hand to grab the 2 plates on each side of the bar, then with his feet on top of the bar and hands fastened in that pinch grip, JUMPS something like 5’ in the air with the weight! Some point after this I realized and figured out I was in a dream and was able to control myself to a degree in first person so I looked around and then to Lee and said “…this is a dream.” Then I woke up.

Well I think that’s the first time I woke up. I woke up in a light sweat and thought to myself that was a really awkward dream. I didn’t think too much of it, didn’t check the time or anything but decided to go back to sleep because I was still exhausted. Right when I fall asleep I go back to where I was in that dream but Lee’s gone. I still have control of myself and kind of have conscious thought because I know I’m in a dream and can control where I go and what I do within my dream. I pass the main area where everyones lifting because the layout of Gold’s gym is it’s a giant square looking warehouse and there are rusty shelves stacked with various equipment and random mechanical parts and they’re nearly as tall as the ceiling. The shelves are arranged in a manner from the wall to the left, then from the wall to the right so if I wanted to walk to the end of the building I would have to go along a very large Z pattern. And that’s exactly what I did. It felt like going through a dim maze. I still kind of have control of myself and do know it’s a dream so I somehow willed myself awake because I was getting pretty creeped out in my dream walking halfway to the end. It was getting darker and darker and I was started to hear noises and I think see silhouettes of random objects. I woke up, thought to myself that the dream was creepy and then got out of bed and went to the bathroom to get a glass of tap. After I get some water I’m still exhausted since my sleep was horrible so I hopped back into bed and fell asleep.

IM BACK IN THE SAME DREAM AGAIN EXACTLY WHERE I LEFT OFF FROM WAKING UP… AGAIN!!! [This is where my dream gets super fucking weird] This time I don’t know I’m in a dream, I go through the motions of wherever my dream is taking me and I can’t control myself nor do I know what’s really going on, but I remember it clear as day. I left off in the middle of the Gold’s Gym which was a creepy warehouse looking area so that’s where I was, I was determined to get to the end of the gym but to get there I needed to continue walking in a zig-zag pattern because after passing the main area with lifters and equipment, shelves were in the way so it was in a sense a one-way maze. I had to explore it to the end for whatever reason and I get to an area where it connects to a massive and ominous system of tunnels where it looks trash is disposed of, kind of resembling a sewer. I continue walking through the tunnels for a little while and then notice out of the corner of my eye there’s a small group of people walking towards me very slowly. I get curious to who they are so I wait for a while as they seem to limp towards me. That’s when I notice they’re ZOMBIES!!! (I have been re-watching season 1 of The Walking Dead but holy shit) The zombies somehow realize I’m not their kind and start chasing me to no end, I’m running like hell through the tunnel system in utter fear because I’m being chased by a mob but in doing so, I’m attracting more and more of their kind and the group chasing me keeps increasing. My pace slowed as the chase went on and the exhaustion from running couldn’t overcome the thought and the fear of being caught… so I eventually had to stop. [It was one of those dreams where you’re being chased by something you’re terrified of and you never turn back to look at it. You just keep running for fear of your life.] It felt like I was running forever and I felt like I was in the dream for days… I was running pretty slowly now but still ahead of whatever was behind me but I tripped on something and hurt my leg. I become surrounded. As they circle around me and come towards me to presumably eat/kill me, I wake up.

That’s the last time I wake up. I was breathing pretty heavily and in a puddle of sweat with my heart jumping out of my chest. I was legit freaked out… I fucking hate zombies!! I knew I was waking up from a nightmare but the reality I woke up to even felt a little surreal for a moment. I wrote the main points of my nightmare on paper so I wouldn’t forget because it was weird and it sucked. I hate dreams where I get chased by something. I usually wake up if and when they catch me, but this one just continued on whether I wanted to go back to it or not.

SATURDAY!! Shoulders

BB strict standing OHP- full rom :]
45 x 12-14
95 x 10

155 x and then… Lee showed up a bit late, alright time to hop on that smith machine he loves so much

Smith Machine Military - front of the head
135 x 14-15 forgot
185 x 8 (help with last one)
225 x 7 (~half forced)
235 x 6 (didn’t want 275 this week because I wanted to try at least a clean rep, which I almost succeeded at. I started out with full ROM from clavicles and up but then went from nose to 3/4 lockout)

Smith Military - behind the head
135 x 10 (forced last rep)
185 x 8 (~half forced)

Seated slightly leaned over lat raises
30 x 15
35 x 12
40 x 10
45 x 8 (feels a bit easier this week)

Standing Lat raises
30 x 10
35 x 10
40 x 10 (had to cheat a little and rest in between reps to get there but the idea was to get to 10)

DB front raise - palms up
35 x 10
45 x 10
55 x 10

barbell front raise
50 x 10

135 x 6-8 (they got ugly even with lots of help)

b1)Smith Shrug
135 x 20
225 x 15
315 x ? I think I got to 10, I couldn’t hold the squeeze at the peak so I was just trying to pump them out

b2)1 arm db shrug
80 x 10
90 x 10? they get sloppy but I keep running the motion as well as I can til I get to 10

Behind the back Smith Shrugs
135 x f (15-20?)

Decline situps
2 x f x bw

Cable Crunches
3 x f x 60

db military press - just to burn it up before we leave
1 x f x 20 (I have no idea how many I did I just kept pumping but the reps weren’t as high as you’d think, maybe 15-18. I’m embarassed to struggle locking out 20lb dbs so I just drop the dbs to save my pride.)

MONDAY!!! Chest

Incline Smith
135 x 15
185 x 10-12? cant remember
225 x 8 (forced last or 2)
275 x 5 (forced half )

Flat Smith
135 x 12
225 x 7 (forced last)
315 x 2 (both forced-- man I’m tired!! those inclines killed me)
185 x 6-8 forced

Decline Smith
135 x 10
225 x 6 (4 forced)
315 x 2 (forced)
185 x 3 (all forced? LOL)

By the way I forgot to mention once Lee forces more reps out of my muscles, my ROM shortens(up top) every time the rep count goes up +1. My tri’s always give out before my chest does so I do this to keep tension on my chest and working my chest as long as it’ll still move the weight. So it’s forcing out partial reps that are as short as maybe th bar being 1’ - 2’ above my chest before going down and back up to around there. I guess this could work for BB too, but this technique seems to work awesome with the Smith. I’m still not a big fan of this machine despite being able to load on significantly more weight than a real bench with barbell, but I figure I’ll be using it for at least another several weeks.

Incline DB partial fly/pres motion
30 x 10
35 x 10
40 x 8 (4 forced)
45 x 8 (4 forced)

Flat DB partial fly/press motion
40 x 10 (forced a few)
50 x 10 (forced a lot)

Kneeling Overhead Cables fly/press motion
40 x 15
50 x 12
60 x 10 (little help)
70 x 8 (little help every rep only near the peak position so I could get closer to squeeze harder rawr)

I like to keep up with him in the beginning part of the workout so I always do what he does for the first exercise or two, but for lesser clean reps than him. Lees chest day really sucks though. I hate this shit LOL!!! After the few sets of heavy Smith presses I fatigue a lot comparatively to him, especially my triceps. On the other hand, his triceps are made out of something serious. He uses up to 30lbs more per arm on the dbs for a few reps when we get to flat db pressing.

Light ab work
a few sets of decline situps and cable crunches

TUESDAY!! Back

btw holy cow my upper chest is insanely sore!! I put a lot of focus into the incline part of yesterday so I guess it’s well deserved. I think it’s interesting that we do Inclines first to put more emphasis on the upper chest. I’ve always done flat THEN inclines, with absolutely no decline work.

I always thought of the upper chest as a secondary section to work since the much larger part middle/lower chest gets hit hard from flat bench… but I would prefer for now my upper chest grow and get stronger rather than my middle/lower chest because I have decent development there and my upper chest lags a bit in comparison.

Obviously there’s different schools of thought and I typically follow the doing lighter weight with awesome form school of thought, but these workouts I have to follow the other one hahaha. I guess it’s nice to do what I’m not used to though, just keep throwing around heavy (to me) weights around to tear up the muscles. btw today is pretty much the same as last week

When I stepped on the scale today at the gym I’d only had a light brunch and I weighed 158.4 (or .6 the scale couldn’t decide) and I freaked out!! I literally looked at the scale and said kind of loud “WHAT THE FUCK???” and then went to start my workout with a fervor like you’ve never seen. LOL

Pull ups! all overhand
shoulder width x 10
super ultra mega wide x 10
hands ~6" apart x 5

Seated Rows (we only use 45 plates on each side and the seat position is like sitting on a stool but leaning back and pulling weight towards you)
2 plate x 16-20 I got a little psycho for my first set
3 plate x 10
4 plate x 8
4 plate x 6 (this set came like 30 seconds after the previous)
5 plate x 4 (throwing my back out, short ROM, sloppy form. The whole 9 as long as I squeezed a few out!!)

other Seated Row Machine (seat position is like when doing cable rows)
2 plate x 12-14 forgot
3 plate x 8
4 plate x 6-8 I forgot how many I did but the last few wasn’t a very deep ROM
5 plate x 3

seated Cable rows w triangle attachment
100 x 10
120 x 8
140 x 8 (cheated a few)

Cable Rows - with the attachment that looks like [)----(]
100 x 12
120 x 10
140 x 10
160 x 10 (don’t ask how my form was. My negative motions were decent though LOL)

Cable rows - single arm D-- attachment
50 x 12
50 x 12
60 x 10
70 x 10

Lee just remembered during cable rows he wanted to add in T-bar rows in this week but it was too late to do them, neither of us really had anything left in our backs. When I’m doing cable rows the weight never feels heavy but it feels more like my back is just TIRED hahaha

Well in any case it was a sweet workout, it was a big shocker to me we used 5 plates on each arm today for the machine rows because back when I occasionally used this machine (which would be near the end of my workout) I would use 2 plates for low reps.

I also just remembered someone asked me a question about dropping weight, I forgot to mention I was sick and still slightly am, but MUCH better. Last week I had something like a 72 hour stomach bug with body aches and I just felt like crap and crapping.

WEDNESDAY!!! Off. Well… supposed to be anyways. Lee wants to do arms today and push the rest of the workout forward a day so we take off sat/sun rather than wed/sun because we should be able to take it, but we’ll see how it works out today. Even if he wants to work out I doubt I’ll go. I haven’t slept much and I have work after classes… I NEED TO EAT TOO!!

fml

THURSDAY!!! Arms

Rope Pull downs w ropes

3 plate x 7-8

Decline Smith CGBP ~6" apart
135 x 14-16
225 x 10 (help with the last 2)
315 x 3-4 (help with all besides the first clean one)

1 plate x 4 (alotta help for the majority)

Seated Incline Bench DB Hammer Curl
30 x 8
35 x 8

Cable Tri Pushdown with V attachment (this particular cable machine has more resistance than the other ones. 40lbs on this one feels like maybe 70-80lbs on the other cables in the gym)

70 x 12
90 x 10
100 x 8

Machine Preacher 1 armed
3 x 8-10

Other Machine Curl
3 x 8-10

Seated machine tri pushdown (first time I used this thing. kind of weird, it has a seatbelt LOL)
3 x 8

Rope Curls, Underhand cable tri push downs, single arm cable curls, misc. cable work.

I usually forget the weights/reps near the end of the workout, but they’re not really worth posting. After the first few exercises fatigue sets in and I’m using half of what I would be fresh for working weights, so I just do what I can with what I have left near the end of the workout

I had a talk with Lee after the workout and in his opinion this type of training will be beneficial to me. The top/higher sets of stuff like all our smith pressing motions I can usually never do unassisted but he says that by slowly getting used to these weights I’ll be able to do them in no time since he says when he spots me he barely does anything (what I feel on the bar says differently at times). As they say there’s 2 school of thought and I was taught to go lighter but to focus and emphasize form but with these weights I have to dog out the reps, holding form as best as I can. It’s a little bit different but ever since I’ve trained with Lee I’m using 3/4 - 9/10 motions to keep tension on my muscle for the duration of the set. I’ve never done it til now and it feels easier til the last one or two where I need to lockout for a quick second to recover for another rep. The gap between us isn’t TOO far in terms of strength, but it’s considerable… He says he’s impressed with how I’m practically keeping up with him weighing around ~160lbs. He pretty much got to the point that if I want to get bigger and bigger, I have to hold form as well as I can and keep adding more weight to everything. He has double my experience lifting weights so I’ll go with it and see where it takes me with the following weeks/months/whatever

side note, I’m not too sure how much Lee helps me on the presses with the smith so I’ve told him the style of spotting that I’d like him to do. As a heavy set goes on with rep counts that I can’t do I told him to spot me lightly for the first rep of failure, but then give more and more assistance as I need as the rep count increases. I’ve heard training to failure can lead to injuries and whatnot, but I don’t think these weights are big enough for any tears of any sort.

Now I gotta get dressed to get to work, then gym right afterwards for Legs! I’m pumped for today because I missed out on last weeks Legs day, but sadly I’ve got to be walking around for 5 hours straight with no seating right before squats. ugh

til later
