You are truly a holy man and a man of peace. You are obviously learned and cultured. The inner light of your faith shines like a beacon in the darkness of vegeterianism…enough of this. Reverend my ass. I didn’t ask for anyone’s opinion on vegetarianism, I asked “what kind of results have you had (relating to working out), where do you get your protein from, your favorite foods. Also, what kind of vegetarian are you (vegan, ovo-lacto, etc) and why?” If you don’t agree with it fine, go ahead and state your opinion in a civilized manner, but don’t flame me for doing something you don’t agree with. There seems to be a lot of this going on in this forum recently.
It’s been 10 years since I’ve had chicken, turkey, beef, or pork. However, I do eat fish, ostrich, and buffalo every week. Consider this path before heading down that soy highway.
“Reverend my ass” nope, I am a Reverand what bothers you is that I am NOT an idiot! YOU said it was for “ethical” reasons so these “ethical” reasons are open for debate. you answered NONE of my questions, why?
Most Atlantic Salmon aren’t actually caught in the Atlantic, they are farmed fish raised in pens near the coast, but in Pacific waters. They are fed mainly soymeal.
I would buy more fish, there’s just no guarantee what I’m getting. Forget buying the farmed fish, scarcely any W-3 EFA’s to be found in them.
The US alone dumps 40 tons of mercury a year on the sea. The rest of the world dumps even more. Fish is poisoned with mercury.
Please don’t bother insulting me just because i disagree with you like you do with everybody else. Ok?
Oh I see, mercury is only dumped in the Atlantic Ocean not Pacific. It’s good to know polluters are specfic as to where they dump. The Atlantic is a pretty large body of water my friend. Is it ok to eat fish caught on the European side or does the Mercury and other pollutants stay on our side? All fish poison? Hardly. I don’t insult everyone that doesn’t agree with me. I think you’re still pissed because Portugal got the boot from the world cup and spelled Portuguese wrong. Get over it. I lke a good discussion/debate but I found UDL’s condescending and ignorant. Read her post to me “But with a name like yours clean water must not be your biggest concern”. I’d call that an insult and why? Because I asked her to elaborate on a post. Fuck that shit. The reason I call myself ShitDisturber is because I don’t take shit from anyone. You want to give me attitude for asking a question and that’s the response you’ll get. I’m actually a nice guy, I just stand up for what I believe, that’s all. King Protien I agree that farmed fish is not the best, that’s why I don’t eat it. I made no mention of it. So what about Pacifc salmon? Is it wild, farmed in the Pacific, or the Atlantic. Why do you suppose Atlantic salmon is farmed in the Pacific(and Atlantic btw)? Because it’s highly sought after that’s why.
I LOVE STEAK , I LOVE EATING ALL MY ESSENTAIL AMINO ACIDS TOO !
For whatever its worth, I’ve been a vegetarian for almost 10 years, and I don’t really think its inhibited my gains anywhere near as much as when I simply didn’t pay attention to when I was eating. I agree with the folks who caution against veganism though - unless you are a nutritional genius with a superior recovery environment, you may be in for a trying experience - I was fine at home in HS since my mom is a nutritionist, but once I got to college my hair fell out and I lost a LOT of mass. There are plenty of people out there who survive just fine on an ovo-lacto diet for whatever reasons they are on it.
Candida is a good word for what girls call yeast infections (mmmm mmm…) basically it is an overgrowth of bacterias in your intestines and they THRIVE on carbs (Candida cleanse diets can be pretty ketogenic…) - a lot of people have them and don’t realize it. Johnny Blaze - you are probably just detoxing right now so I wouldn’t worry yet. Go ahead and eat vegetarian, just be smart and you’ll be fine.
Atlantic salmon are farmed in a lot of places. Pacific salmon aren’t farmed in as many. The reason is that it’s hard to get Pacific salmon to gain much size in captivity and Atlantics grow well in net pens. Mercury is a heavy metal and generally goes to the bottom of the water where the bottom dwellers ingest it and it goes up the food chain from there. The farther up the food chain you go, like tuna and swordfish, the more concentrated the mercury can be. Farmed fish don’t get much exposure to mercury in their diet so they’re cleaner that way. The thing about them having less EFA’s is probably right though. I guess it’s a tradeoff like anything else.
Here we go again! More pussification of America! We need to toughen up, people! Ask the rev…we should be worried about salvation, not all this b.s. I’ll tell you what…if Jesus was here right now, I’d fire up the grill and throw on some big fat slabs of meat. Oh the poor steer, he wasn’t treated with compassion. His feelings were hurt! C’mon! The Lord provided us with these things, so who cares. In case you haven’t noticed, there are bigger concerns in our world. So in my humble opinion, EAT MEAT…and WEAR FUR!!!
But sardines are baby fish, stand low in the food chain, have a high EFA’s content and are extremely cheap. So why bother?
We are omnivores. Stop eating meat at your own peril. We do not have incisors for nothing. Oh, our appendix, which used to be used for purely vegetarian reasons, no longer functions. We use meat as an essential form of vitamins. We rely upon it.
I worship Hathor the celestial bovine. Only through his body can one maintain strength.
