So, last week I just started nursing school. It is a serious time commitment, 17 credit hours not including lab practice and hospital time. Right now I also help my Dad a great deal because he is currently going through chemo. So with all this time being taken up, by things much more important than training none the less, my workout days are not consistent. I was doing MTRF SST, and just switched to BBB on the same days.
However, I pretty much end up training when I can, and some weeks might only be 1-2 days. So, my question is: should I keep doing how I am and moving my training days around, or should I move to say a 2 day a week template? With this schedule, what is the best way to work towards being awesome?
And this style of training will be necessary for the next 3 years till I’m done with nursing school.
Also my stats are(as per jim’s 1rm formula):
Press 125x1
DL 350x1
Bench 190x1
Squat 275x1
5’5"
160lbs
*Have an “A” workout and a “B” workout ( I recommend using the same training template as Option 1 of the 2 day a week programming.)
*Use the appropriate FSL volume for each lift.
Use 5’s PRO
With this style of training, you can train back/back days, or as many days a week as you want.

Ok, great. Now, do you mean BBB 2 days per week or the template on pg 59? And for 5’s you mean to use that for the “big” assistance?
OR
Do you mean the new 2 day template on pg 70 with the 5s as assistance instead of the given percentages?
I found this to be great advice, Jim. I am in the same situation of working full time and a full time student and just don’t have the time or energy to lift as often. I backed off my training max by about 25 pound on Squat and DL ad 15 ponds on Press and Bench. I couldn’t see lifting a weight for one rep and then lifting 10 more pounds for 5 reps the next cycle.
I have four Cycles to go to complete one year on 5/3/1. I don’t think I’m going to hit my weight goals in the Squat or Bench, but at 48 years old, I am stronger that I was at 25.
Thanks for staying involved here. Your advice has been invaluable.
