I was wondering if there was any inportance to varitey when it comes to dieting. i mean if one happenes to find the perfect food combos is there a problem with eating that same exact thing day in and day out…that is of course one has to make changes to the diet due gains or what not… I certainly don’t mind eating the same thing all of the time and i am sure that most of the people in here do not as well…
I think variety is good just because it ensures a variety of micronutrients.
I think varitey is extremely important… I read somewhere that before farming grains, man ate about 300 different foods… modern man (man/women so the vixens don’t get riled) only eats from approximately 50 different foods.(Mc Donalds, Crispy cream, Wendy’s & 47 others)
A diverse diet provides many micro nutients that play many heathy roles.
…Hunter gatherer baby!
Agree with what’s said. Variety provides micronutrients (especially phytochemicals) that we are only just beginning to completely understand. That’s one reason I have a problem with these “MRP and Oatmeal” diets. Question: Would these guys see greater gains with greater variety? I don’t really have the answer…and I don’t think they do either…
Variety, oh how i crave variety…I wish i COULD get the variety in my diet, I do have my staples, and I basically get a serving of meat, chicken, fish, eggs, milk every day, and try to get a stack of fruit and veg and low G carbs, as well. If i had too much ‘change’ in my diet, i wouldnt get the basics in me at all and I dont know about the rest of you guys but i barely have time to think in a day, and just buying a massive cart of 7 times everything makes life painfully simple. I find blender meals are handy, and the latest recipes on T-mag have given my tastebuds a break, as well as a load more antioxidants.
Variety is critical. Here’s an example. When my kid was a baby, I switched between formulas frequently as I had heard of occasional cases of formulas missing critical nutrients or vitamins. By switching I felt I minimized the possibility of completely missing out on a critical nutrient. Works the same way with what we eat. Eat nothing but Myoplex and if Myoplex is deficient in say Vitamin C, you’ll get scurvies. Mix it up, and you won’t.
