Hope this new album is a good one but how oh how could they ever match this?[/quote]
You didn’t just compare Van Hagar to Van Halen, did you?
Oh, the humanity!
Hoo boy . . .
(Heavy!) ![]()
(Headphones needed for a proper listen.)
It seems that having his son as the bass player now finally inspired Eddie to let the bass be turned up nice and loud in the mix, which I sort of thought was always missing in the past. Now they’ve got a nice HEEEEEAVY sound.

(About 40 seconds of weird intro before the song kicks in.)
Did I mention this was the heaviest album they’ve ever done . . . ?

I do what I can. ![]()
My ears are ringing. Too much headphone usage with a few of these tunes.
It’s a good ring, though.

I REALLY want VH to be on top, again. These other songs blow away ‘Tattoo’, which sucks, imo.

Yup, good times.
Like I said, they usually release the weakling as a single for some reason.
Curious to see if the album will do well though. I think it might be the best one they’ve ever done, but the musical landscape isn’t very rock 'n roll-oriented these days.

I agree about the bass (of course I would… I’m an ex-bassist).
I never liked Mike Anthony’s flat, farty bass sound anyway.

I wonder how much of that was Mike’s fault and how much of it was Eddie turning him down in the mix, and limiting what he could do.
Cool-ass unplugged version of “Panama” they did as an extra on the new album! (There are four of these unplugged versions of classic tunes on the album.)
Damn cool. ![]()
Damn, I am a thread-killer!
Downloaded the new album a while ago, and have been listening to it all night.
This album is aggressive…it is hard. Eddie is killing it on the guitar. He is KILLING it. Hell, there are a couple songs on here that border on actual metal. Did I say Eddie is killing it?
Tattoo was “ok” to me, not great. And I heard snippets of all the songs on the album, but hearing them in their entirety is quite different. Those who prefer the more melodic Hagar years won’t like this album. This is more Women and Children First and Fair Warning than 5150 or any of the Hagar year albums. I dare say, this might actually be harder than those albums.
I love this album.
Now, it would be just perfect if DAve grew his hair back. Return of the hair band!

Yup. I think it’s their heaviest album ever! Borderline-metal on a few tracks is damn right. Might actually be my favorite VH album. It is crazy-good.
Henry Rollins once quoted David Lee Roth when he said, “David Lee Roth once said, ‘If you have to pick up something heavy, put on a Van Halen album.’ And I do. Very often.”
I downloaded it last night, headed to the gym and picked up many, many heavy things.
Pure kick-ass, this album. Eddie is Out.Of.Hand. on this thing. ![]()
As much as I love DLR back in the mix, I knew that this was going to happen. Again.
