Valentine's Day

Same here except New York Strip. She doesn’t like the Rib Eye bone, and I’m not about to eat one without one, so NYS it was. And she made mini strawberry white chocolate cheesecakes.

1st Valentines married, 10 years together for reference. Glad you all had a great one

Both bands are platinum and he must really love me cuz I’m not into sparklies but he went all out. It’s insured but too bulky to do almost anything with.

Sorry responded wrong. Noob alert

I don’t envy your relationship. I’ve always hated being with a woman who has elaborate expectations for valentine’s day (not currently the case), and the possibility of failing to satisfy her need to be showered with gifts. Fuck all that.

Also not about to go out to dinner ON valentine’s day. I did a nice dinner a few days before. So much better. We cooked at home on last night.

My girlfriend got me some awesome, thoughtful gifts. I suck at valentine’s day, and pretty much mailed it in. a couple boxes of chocolate and told her we could get massages sometime in the future… I’ve given flowers so few times in my life, to anyone, I’m positive I can count the number of times on my hands.

Maaaaaan this one is tough for me. Something I’ve thought about if I were to get married again. When I was married, I took my ring off ALL the time between work, home projects and the gym. So it was very difficult/ nerve-racking to keep track of it. AND my knuckles are about 2 sizes larger than my fingers. So I had to get a special ring to be able to take it on and off. It had a cool little locking mechanism you could open up to slide the ring on and off easily. The downside was, because I did this so often, the mechanism was pretty much worn out after a couple years. So it started opening up randomly when I had it on.

Anyway. My solution would likely be to get a gold ring that I just put away somewhere/ keep at home or something, and then wear a silicone one daily.

I can’t imagine wearing a gold one for most daily use, and then actually putting on a DIFFERENT ring specifically to work out. Y’all crazy for that.

+1 for silicon rings. Comfortable and no reason to take them off when lifting. Mine is a “groove” and has done well.

I did pick my 3 year old daughter up from school with a bouquet of flowers then took her out for ice cream (with sprinkles).

Would be weird to wear any ring to lift…Guess what I got for Valentine’s Day…a gift card to the grocery store lol. To tell ya the truth, it was perfect!

They are flexible, tough, and comfortable so there is never a reason to take it off. Something that is annoying, hard, and you need to take a break from to do the things you want isn’t a way I’d want my marriage symbolized  Mine has held up much better than my previous gold or steel rings (I’ve had to change several times due to changes in hand size). There isn’t a scratch on it. I’ve also had our rector re-bless mine when I’ve changed it, silicone included.

Not entirely surprising but I can’t say I wasn’t secretly hoping you would come out and confess you were all about Valentine’s Day lol

Super sweet.

I would love for my dad to do that, even now.

Sounds like you got it on fleek! I cannot top that.

We don’t do much shit for Valentines anymore. We go to a nice meal and just hang. I did get flowers, though. What we do is make our Valentines dinner, not on Valentine’s day when everything is packed. We rather go early or go after where we can stretch out and have peace when we eat.

I express my love for the people I care about differently. I don’t like to wait until holidays to give gifts, or express strong sentiments of love, take days off to spend time with loved ones, etc. I’m more interested in making sure the people I love, and specifically the woman I’m with, knows how much I care every single day. I’m a very affectionate person, and I tend to be pretty thoughtful. I’m also very emotionally supportive of the people I care about.

I just don’t get into the minor holidays

True story. I lost my wedding ring for 8 months and just kept that hand in my pocket or held my wife’s hand with the other hand to avoid her noticing. After 6 months I went online and bought another one that was identical. At month 8, I get a text from my wife asking why I was at work unmarried (without ring). I’m thinking to myself WTF, it’s on my finger. Fortunately, just said I was super busy and forgot it. Lol, now I have an extra ring in my office just in case I lose it again.

Fell for the trap. AG, I hope you learnt your lesson.

I lost my keys just like this. I had no idea they were gone until me and the boy were heading back to the truck. I realized they had to of fallen on this one ride and the operator found them on top of the cage over his head.

I also lost my ring jumping of a rope swing into an Idaho lake. I found some kid who had a mask and snorkel. After beating him up a taking the mask, I was able to dive down and get it back.

I also lost my dog in Idaho but was able to get him back too.

I always use a thermometer, but have vastly improved my cooking with my new Sous-Vide cooker. It’s a game changer. Meat is cooked to the perfect temperature every time.

Alternatively you can slow cook in the oven. Sear the steak just like you mention but cook it at 200F in the oven. Use a probe thermometer to get right at 135 (or lower if you prefer rare) and you’re golden.

Touche. But I still don’t fully agree with the “can’t wear ring when training” approach.

You did or do some EMT work, no? I can see the benefits of silicone rings for more active stuff, like AG and Gabby were talking about, where there’s more of a concern for hand damage. (Degloving ranks pretty high on the cringe-inducing list). But with just picking up heavy things, I don’t really get it.

End of the day, all’s I know is, Yates is in the wear-ring-when-training camp. So, we got that going for us.

agreed on that. I didn’t start taking off my ring until I got into strongman stuff. No way in hell I’d wear a ring to do Atlas Stones, lol. You’d have to take it off afterward anyway to clean the tacky off.

But yea, if all you do is machines and basic barbell work? It probably won’t get in the way.

The knurling on the bars just scratches and tears them up, at least my softer gold rings. And if you’re using chalk, and doing C+J or something where the bar is sliding in your hands? No way. I never wear rings to the gym.
