Agreed. While it doesn’t look good for Oscar, maybe we should wait for things like, I don’t know…“forensic evidence” and so forth before tying his noose for him.
She WAS apparently in the bed when he got up to close the balcony door, and then heard something in the bathroom.
I wouldn’t point fingers. Unless you are a South African (as I am), it is difficult to understand the level of tension people live under as a result of the extremely high level of senseless deadly crime, which has touched pretty much every single family multiple times. It is common for even unresisting and cooperating victims to be killed by thieves for a wallet. Why? Just because. When one home invasion-murder occurred in Connecticut a couple of years ago it was national news for weeks in the U.S., while in South Africa there are multiple cases of such senseless home invasion-murders in the news every week - you’re just lucky if the robbers don’t torture or rape you before they kill you. For this reason, some people live on a hair trigger, and it is not uncommon for family members or friends to be accidentally shot by people trying to defend themselves after being mistaken for intruders.

His story doesn’t make sense. In the time it took him to get up to close the sliding door and then go to the bathroom door to shoot the ‘‘intruder’’, didn’t he realize that his gf was not in the bed, not in the bedroom at all and that she could very well be in the bathroom? Where the hell did he think she was? The first thing I would have thought a boyfriend or hubby did if an intruder was in the house, and his wife/gf was in bed with them, would be to tap or shake, just to make sure she’s okay first.
If he was so concerned about intruders, why the hell did he sleep with an open sliding door? Fuck, that cunt leaves in one of the most expensive gated communities in SA. Safety is a minimal issue. Most of the violence happens in the slums. He shot the ‘‘intruder’’ through the door- is that not shooting to kill?! Wouldn’t you just shoot once as a warning and then put on your legs and hide? He must have heard her scream in pain the first time she got shot and could have stopped, 'cos I have no idea what is up with her crushed skull, the shots to her hip and hand). And let’s not forget the bloody cricket bat… nothing fucking adds up.
He’s a fucking liar and the sympathy should be reserved for the woman he slayed and, not to his crocodile tears.

The guy lived in a gated compound with armed guards he also owns dogs
If he really feared for his life to that degree he should have moved abroad
he is a multi multi millionaire
south africa is extremely violent yes but its not like he was living in a bad part of town
i think it is more believable they had a big argument and he went crazy and shot her then regretted it than he blindly got up and shot multiple times at a door after hearing a noise

doesn’t mean anything, way “safer” places have been broken into

erm how exactly does 10ft high walls, armed guards and dogs not “mean anything”???
and exactly what “way safer” places have been broken into???
you are being ridiculous.
they guy lived in an EXCEPTIONALLY safe environment let’s be real here.

listen here you have no idea what you are talking about so don’t pretend like you do. What you know about violence in south africa is nothing.

I wouldn’t exactly categorize a neighborhood that requires 10ft high walls, armed guards and dogs as an “EXCEPTIONALLY safe environment” but I see what you’re trying to get at.
The fact that a “gated community” has the same security precautions as a prison shows the type of area that its in.
That being said, this dudes story about thinking it was an intruder is total BS.

Yeah South Africa is a fucking mess, gun violence is on a par with Colombia and Mexico, every other South African I’ve met has a horror story about someone in their extended family.
I’ve heard of well prepared families with Caged windows, rottweilers on the porch and a room full of shotguns still have their homes overrun . There’s good cause to feel paranoid.
Whatever the case may be you just don’t shoot blindly through a door in your house when you aren’t sure who is behind the door. Especially if you have loved ones or family in the house with you. If his story is true, don’t you think he would have announced to the supposed intruder that he has a gun and he will shoot it if necessary? Also, why would an intruder be in the bathroom in the first place? Oh I was going to rob this dudes house then all of a sudden I had to take a huge shit and just could’t hold it any longer.
Either this guy is a cold blooded killer or just a dumb fucking idiot with a gun.

you are being ridiculous and making out it is the land of indestructible zombie burglars.
i have read alot about crime in SA what else is there to know? my opinion would be more valied if i had a cousin there who had been burgled? wtf?
if it is as bad as you are trying to make out an extremely rich guy list OP simply wouldn’t live there
i get that crime is high but he was not living in a vulnerable environment due to the huge precautionary measures he had paid for.
again, LOL at saying armed guards, 10ft walls and dogs count for NOTHING in stopping a robbery.

Nope. It is pretty common for the personal security and community security forces to be in on the robberies/attacks. They will let the attackers in right through gate.

Or unlikely but other residents breaking in

What’s the point of this argument? He shot through a door without knowing who was on the other end. The dude is a murderer – the only question is if he’s cold-blooded or an extremely paranoid trigger-happy idiot.

Not arguing just a completely different topic at least for me, the facts of THIS situation is all judgements and gut calls aside we will not know for sure until all evidence is examined and determined to be either murder or not… either way unless there is a confession even that is not a 100% garunteed verdict of truth… How many get away with murder, and how many are incarserated for serious misunderstandings… My money is on he murdered her though. Really tragic and I just don’t ever understand things like this.
I thought his defence had already pleaded not guilty for premeditated murder on the grounds he thought she was an intruder. If he’s already admitted to shooting her (and this would be proven easily forensically any way) then he’s essentially done half the work for the prosecution.

if he did shoot her by accident and claimed he didn’t to stay safe and they found he would have been totally done. I don’t understand the legal system its all just about what can be proven, and with criminal lawyers it all just seems like smoke and mirrors to me.
is there any specifics to the claim? I am really interested in how they determine whether or not it really was an accident… is it all about just matching the story up? I mean it is not as if anyone could read his mind…
Damn South Africa sounds like a place from a Mad Max film. Crazy…
How can you have any sort of hope for a civilised and productive society when you have 50 murders a day and people aren’t safe in their OWN homes… How can you sustain an economy? If you are even mildly intelligent, educated and skilled (or are willing to learn skills) then I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want ot emigrate. I’m even more perplexed how a guy so paranoid like Pistorius would want to live in such a violent country, gated community or not. I know the feeling of “wanting to be at home” explains why some educated and wealthy people remain in the country but I didn’t know it was so strong.
