V-Diet & Metabolic Drive Complete?

As Dan John finishes his V-Diet experiment, I have been inspired to give it a go. After doing the math to figure out my nutritional requirements, as well as order size, I have run into a dilemma. Now keep in mind, I don’t want to be one of those people who changes and modifies protocols into something entirely different, but I have discovered that using Metabolic Drive Complete instead of regular Metabolic Drive would be cheaper.

That aside, using Metabolic Drive Complete would provide different nutritional profiles given caloric restrictions, such as approximately 50% more carbohydrates, and a third less protein per day (I would still be getting slightly more than one gram per bodyweight). I know that may seem drastic on paper, but are these differences really large enough to significantly impact the rate of fat loss? Furthermore, one tub of Metabolic Drive would last me 2 days given my weight; Metabolic Drive Complete would last three days on average. Hence, using Metabolic Drive Complete would cost approx. $100 less over the month.

I don’t mean to be a troll here; if using the regular Metabolic Drive is the only way to go then so be it, I just needed to ask this question before jumping in.

If your only reason for using it is to save money, Chris has recommended making your shakes with half Metabolic Drive, and half Whey protein.

This is what I’ve been using (one scoop of each for 5 shakes a day, but you can adjust for your weight), and although I didn’t do the math yet, it’s a lot cheaper.

If you’re using MD Complete, it ain’t the V-Diet. It’s the MRP Diet. (There’s an article somewhere on T-Mag called “The MRP Diet.”)

And, yes, the diet would be less effective. Chris can write the article why the V-Diet works, but in a nutshell: It works for all the same reasons other low-carb diet works. It works better than other low-carb diets because it allows for post-training glycogen replinishment.

If you do not know what these terms mean (and there’s certainly nothing wrong with that!), then you are not advanced enough to start tweaking diets written by advanced trainees. Either do the diet as instructed, or do another diet.

Thank you for the responses. I think I will do as the first reply said and “cut” the Metabolic Drive with regular Biotest whey. Was there any mention of an optimal ratio, such as 1:1, 1:2?

They are pretty close in nutrition, but taste would indeed be another story…

IOW, you’re not going to do the V-Diet – You’re going to do something else.

Chris has already mentioned using Grow! Whey along with Metabolic Drive for the Velocity Diet.

If he only changes that part, he’s still doing the Velocity Diet.

I’ll have to re-read the initial question, but I remember the fellow saying he was going to use Metabolic Drive Complete.

When did Chris say you could do the V-Diet with Metabolic Drive Complete? I remember him saying low-carb Metabolic Drive and whey was okay, but if the fellow uses Metabolic Drive Complete, then he will be ingesting way more carbs than the V-Diet currently calls for.

Anyhow, I don’t think Chris is God or anything. But the V-Diet works precisely because it’s a) low carb and b) allows for post-workout glyocen resotration.

Adding in carbs from Metabolic Drive Complete would change the diet.

Again, if I misread the question and the fellow intends to use low-carb Metabolic Drive, then my points are moot.

I think you missed the OP’s second post in this thread:

And to answer the OP’s question about the ratio, I’m pretty sure Chris said to use half Metabolic Drive, and half Whey.

Ah… I did indeed. Thanks!
