V-Diet - Dealing With Criticism

Hey guys.

Just a quick question.

I am starting the velocity diet on tuesday just ordered the supps etc and i got a few queries.

I posted on a local forum here (as i live in australia)

Alot of bodybuilders on there think its a very bad diet that it shouldnt be done.

I will post some of the stuff they said just so you guys could elaborate it on it so i can let them know as well as some may think its a bad diet but not the whole concept of results etc.

Here are a few things:

I’ve spoken to some guys, and bodybuilders are on cycle during contest prep.

I’ve never heard of bodybuilders using such a stupid diet, as Marshall said they would eat large quantities of lean meat sources, and cut that way.

This diet is hands down the worst Idea I’ve ever seen posted here…

COMMENT 2
You probably could get a much better result for yourself following a more traditional ketogenic diet, which is all this is; a nasty, easy method of inducing ketosis. Oh and without AAS, you will lose muscle while following a ketogenic diet, regardless of what articles say,

Cheers.
Thanks

When I did the diet, I lost little to no muscle, and about 12 pounds of fat. That’s 3 pounds of fat a week.

The reason the diet works better than a traditional ketogenic diet is that it is dead easy to follow. You know exactly what you need to eat and when.

On the other hand, this diet certainly has no long term potential. Anyone doing this diet for more than 6 or 8 weeks has got to be mental, or severely overweight and heading for heart surgery (or both).

I would venture a guess that it’s not the healthiest way to lose 12 pounds, but it is one of the quickest-fat-losing, most muscle-sparing short term diets I’ve seen.

You don’t go into ketosis with the V-Diet.

It’s in the article, but apparently the guy making that comment doesn’t want to read the article.

Just because someone never heard of something doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

There are too many carbs to put you ketosis.

A little muscle loss is expected, but the amount is largely dependent on what you do outside of your diet to maintain your muscles. i.e. (lift heavy)

With this kind of diet there are always going to be people telling you it’s a bad idea…and they may have good reasons why. If you have your reasons for doing the diet keep it to yourself (or with T-Nation) because most people outside this little world we have here will object. Either way, good luck.

You sound to me like you’re living your life based on what people on Internet forums tell you to do. That, my friend, is a much larger problem than whatever muscle you might lose while on the V-Diet.

oh nah i dont care the criticism i think its good as i can see different pov’s etc thats all.

Here is one main critisism i would like answered if possible:

no worries here r my predictions

workin weights will drop, muscle mass will drop and u will get ill

also u need to include saturated fats in your diet as u need these for hormone production. omega 3’s wont do this job and without the sat fats your hormone levels ill plummet. also this will cause an imbalance in fats/too many omega 3’s which can significantly thin your blood and all the neg effects of thisetc

were r carbs comin from the most u will get from a non weight gainer shake is 5g. therefor 5 X 6 = 30g + 1 meal a week with say 100g carbs = 310g a week = 44g a day max

what i would love to see is your test/thyroid/cortisol levels b4 and after so u can see exactly what u r doin to your bodies hormones

by doin cardio as well as weights u r doomin your muscle tissue man

Are you following the diet word for word? Oh… not quite? All thos American fat loss supps have ephedra in it, which is a stimulant/appetite suppressant.

That diet is doomed to fail without it, not that its a good idea anyway…

COMMENT 3
The main issue isn’t that you won’t lose weight, its the effects on your metabolism, health and muscle mass that won’t start to show through until after you finish, when you attempt to go back to normal and put on weight…

COMMENT 4
Your taking simple carbs after your workouts, so this will pretty much knock you straight of ketosis. It will then take you another say 3 or so days before you enter ketosis again, thats assuming no more workouts followed by simple carbs. So what’s the point anyway?

Regardless of how much protein your taking in, without AAS, you are going to lose a shitload of muscle. Your stregth will suffer. There is nothing besides AAS that is going to prevent this happening. Why don’t you look into the role that your glyco stores play, while your researchnig things on the net?

Hey bro, the diet is what it is: it is supposed to suck, its supposed to be extreme. It isnt meant to be easy or progressive, its supposed to shock the shit out of you.

I think the fact that Dan John (someone carrying a career and family life on top of training) was progressing and setting a new Oly lifting records should be Exhibit A that performance doesnt have to suffer.

Regarding the lack of carbs: If you look at a Berardi, Precision Nutrition type diet, you’ll notice that here are hardly ANY non-veggie carbs. And yet world class athletes swear by JB’s work. I think outsiders would be surprised at how few carbs you really need; remember the body in non-fight/flight mode burns fat as it main source of energy…wow, I remember something from my undergrad physiology class!

Other opinions are always good and there is nothing wrong with some healthy debate, but dont let it sidetrack you. Good luck with the diet.

Dan John also said it was a crazy diet for crazy people =P.

After doing the diet the results are there but, as an olympic lifter, I did notice a drop in my performance. I just felt gassed after only doing snatches so I had to split my days a bit better. If your goal is to lose fat really fast then this will really start it but, remember that what is more important is what you do AFTER the diet is over.

i was wondering where are the carbs in this diet.
I worked it out to be:

23g carbs non trianing days
60g carbs on training days

both of them being simple carbs wouldnt that be bad for a diet like this ?
And also i got told with diets like this you should only consume 20/30 grams as it will throw you out of ketosis ?
