Not me. I would be okay with things like the TSA going away. IMO, it is more an illusion of safety, and it comes with a cost (individual’s time, tax dollars).

Legally, I don’t think they did anything wrong here, so… not sure what or who they are protecting as everyone pretty much knows what happened. They didn’t act and sat there while kids were murdered.
They are going to get dragged in the public eye though by most folks. Police Chief’s career is over as it should be.

I think it’s relevant to consider that the reason the penalty for cowardice in the line of duty is usually death is that any lesser penalty is not sufficient to overcome the burden that a lack of cowardice might put on one’s personal safety.
If you’re talking the US military, this isn’t true. Cowardice is not a crime. Desertion, which could be considered something akin to cowardice, is punishable by death if it occurs during war however, only one American soldier has been executed for desertion since the Civil War, Eddie Slovik in 1945. Slovik believed he would receive a dishonorable discharge for desertion since many soldiers deserted in WW2 and none had been executed.
An example of the brave police force in Uvalde. Instead of confronting the shooter they handcuffed a parent. But hey I’m sure all they needed was more funding.
