It seems the problem here(police work…likely fire and military too…in general) is the people in supervisory roles are often less competent than those they supervise. They have often gotten where they have by kissing ass and not doing anything to rock the boat. Which works out okay when they stay in their offices, but not when they go out where they have little experience. Your typical police chief(to say nothing of a “school district” chief) likely has a bunch of degrees, spent a bare minimum time on patrol, then transferred to specialized units(which translates to: guys that don’t do anything that people think of police doing…unless you think of police belly crawling through the tall grass to catch a guy smoking weed or something…or an internal affairs/professional standards role), then started getting promotions. He may have received promotions primarily because he was incompetent where he was(maybe even a promotion to a role in which he supervised…no one) and there was no other way to quickly move him away from what he was screwing up.
Edit: Side Note: I can’t find an article that doesn’t use the word “storm” in verb form anymore. Can we as a society please forget that we learned that term existed following the near-overthrow of the American system of governance by a guy in a moose wig?

If those cops were real men, and I’m sure some of them have wives, they would have understood why he needed to go and save his wife. A man is supposed to save his family or die trying. Not only would they have let him go, but they wouldn’t have let him go alone. I don’t know how any of them can live with themselves.
The guy lost his wife. Cut him a break. No reason to start claiming he’s not a real man.
You realize that using a derogatory term to describe only the ‘bad cops’ also insults the ‘good cops’, right?
