Being ‘fair’ in this sense is looking at the numbers compared to what the men make and what the men bring in since this is the basis of their stupid argument. Their argument here is that the men get paid substantially more than they do for ‘equal work’ (lol), but the numbers show that outside of these last few years cleverly cherry picked, the men bring in more money.
And just for shits and giggles let’s take a look at Fifa’s World Cup prize money:
Men: 400 million payout against 6 billion in revenue for 2018
Women: 30 million payout against a projected 131 million in revenue for this 2019 Women’s World Cup
Go ahead, do the math, whose getting the bigger share there? Is that capitalism or bending to societal pressure?
But anyhow, that’s just one example of the ridiculous arguments people are making for “equal pay”. Their collective bargaining arguments are different, and as Ms Rapinoe said herself she wants alllllllll the benefits the men have but with none of the drawbacks meaning she wants that guaranteed money the men don’t get but all the perks they do lol
in my personal opinion I think the women should get what they want. the USSF should splinter in two completely separate entities (I believe they function separately as is but is still jointed with sponsorship money,etc)
let both teams go their own way.

This isn’t the wnba asking for similar pay to the NBA. This isn’t Sara Gama asking for the same pay as Ronaldo even though they both play for Juventus.

Those numbers are correct. It’s cited in multiple articles, only with the revenue part cut out, conveniently.
But the women aren’t suing Fifa though they’ve already started a campaign to have FIFA increase their payouts even more and I believe FIFA buckled. I think the payout will double, while the men’s payout will only increase by 40million.
What the women are doing with the United States Soccer Federation is basically saying because they’ve made more since 2015 (they won the World Cup in 2015, the men missed the World Cup in 2018, and the women won again in 2019) they are being discriminated against even though their collective bargaining agreement was already set prior.
All of that of course is hogwash as the federation has already come out and said the men typically do make more, and sponsorship money which is a big part of the deal isn’t split between the two teams.
It’s really simple though, does anyone believe the women’s team is actually more popular than the men’s? They’re not. The last time the u.s mens were in the World Cup in 2014 they were routinely getting ratings of 24 million views while only the women’s final match in which they won achieved a number close to that.
The whole basis for the lawsuit is fucking stupid. It’s fine they want to be paid more, I don’t think anyone would have an issue with disputing their collective bargaining agreement, it’s the way they are doing it.

11 million people over here watched our game against the U.S. That’s an extraordinary amount and exponentially higher (I’d imagine) that the number who watched the last women’s World Cup. The ladies’ game is growing over here. As (I’m assuming) you don’t live over here, you may not realise it, but it is growing. The ladies’ F.A. Cup Final was also watched by many over here too.

I don’t see it as shoved down people’s throat, it’s different and I’ve enjoyed the ladies’ tournament a lot more than the men’s AFCON.
Here’s a little bit of history for you. Women’s football matches used to pull in bigger crowds than most men’s games - often more than 50,000. In the 1920s the sport flourished with around 150 women’s teams in England. But then the women’s game was effectively banned, with the FA at the time saying the game of football is “quite unsuitable for females”.
So considering that us men literally destroyed the women’s game which was quite successful at the time, I don’t mind a little bit extra advertising/TV coverage, I’d say it’s only fair, wouldn’t you?
