if I recall correctly their argument presents revenues from the last few years. They use the 2015 women’s World Cup all the way up until recent but these are revenues associated with the amount of games played, which include the women’s World Cup and not the men’s (because they didn’t make it)
And the federation said that those revenues only present half the picture and doesn’t include long term contracts for television and sponsorship which comes as a packaged deal.
so then you have to ask who has more leverage in those commercial deals? the men’s team or the women’s? historically, that has been the men’s up until their World Cup miss, and even then its still the men’s, let’s be real. You can pretend it is the women all you want, but the federation has already said this isn’t the case.
so what did the women and their lawyers do? they started talking about on field success, they started shitting on the men’s team, they started talking about the women’s soccer jersey selling more (again to do with the men being so fucking awful and not making the World Cup) they started using political hot topics like equal pay and discrimination against women in the work place “we should get paid the same for equal work” even though their lawyers know that’s not how it fucking works. They, the players, they know that, to an extent at least so this is really despicable in my eyes.
Should anyone here give a damn what I think? no, and I don’t care if you do, but these are the facts.
Without the World Cup years in that time frame, both teams either brought in the same amount or the women’s team brought in 1+ million less than the men’s. This would potentially include the 2018 World Cup qualifiers the men’s team played.
And I will wait for the numbers. As I’ve said, I’m still on the fence.
We aren’t really assuming the women are literally asking for a 50/50 equal pay, are we?
I never said this. Also, we don’t know if the men’s team are going to qualify for the next World Cup.
These are negotiation tactics.
I would like the facts. You are giving me your opinions. You don’t produce facts even when asked:
Dude, it’s been fun but I really gotta intervene here. Why are you going on and on about the prize money when no one is referring to it? Is there a language barrier here? I can try to explain things using different terms if this is the problem.
The US men’s team did not play in the 2018 World Cup. There is no prize money. Zero. It’s fairy dust. It’s not real. An equal split of nothing is nothing.
So you can’t answer those huh … ultimately your argument and world view seems to stop at meaningless slogans and platitudes … it’d do you some good to reevaluate all you think you know and apply some actual critical thinking to it … why do you believe what you believe and does it hold to robust scrutiny
I speak about prize money because it’s the main source of revenue for the players to get paid when it comes to the international stage.
By the way Im not American, but I promise you that the US mens team though not a powerhouse is respected throught the world. They are not “shit”. In fact if there were tiers this is how it would look.
Tier 1: Brazil, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Argentina,
Tier 2: Portugal, Uruguay, Croatia, England, Columbia, Belgium
Tier 3: Japan, Sweeden, Mexico, USA, Switzerland, Denmark, Chile, Russia
I think the fact that some of the womens players came out as “lesbians” is affecting some of your guys opinons too lol.
There’s no way Italy or Argentina would be top tier these days! Especially if England and Belgium are considered second tier, which I don’t think they are.
Jesus Christ, man. I gave you the benefit of the doubt that you kept harping on this due to to a language barrier but now you’re just blowing my mind.
If you really believe this is the case for the US team, that means you understand that the US men’s team brought NO REVENUE from the last World Cup because they didn’t qualify.
Oh, what, because you’re a guy you think you should just get more? When is the last time you breastfed a baby, buddy? WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME??
That other people latched on to forward their agenda is beside the point. You have also latched on to advance your agenda, which is to stir discontent over what you see as women’s push to dominate men through political advantage. Neither is material to the questions at hand, which are
Whether it makes sense for the women’s team to push for more money/better accommodations as they ride this wave of success. It does.
Whether they have the right to push for more money/better accommodations as they ride this wave of success. Doesn’t matter, because if they don’t they’ll get shot down but be in a better position when renegotiation time comes.
These are not moral issues beyond the question of whether the team is in the wrong for attempting to renege on their contract. It really is not different from @pfury above renegotiating his compensation package.
The world cup is not an exclusive US tournament is the percentage not based on FIFA, etc ? It is not about revenue but, about percentage of available revenue.
“The men’s World Cup in Russia generated over $6 billion in revenue…the Women’s World Cup is expected to earn $131 million for the full four-year cycle 2019-22"
The women get 13% of about 73 million they bring in. The men get 9% of the 4 Billion they bring in.
The men make more despite not earning anything from the world cup. That’s the point. Women get less from FIFA however, the US men got zero so whatever the women got was more. This point will be ignored by the trolls.
@dt79 about the time frames/games @joeviv10 answers it . it is still less because the bulk of the international teams’ money is generated from the World Cup. That goes for every international team. Their money comes from tournaments such as Gold Cup, EuroCup (for the europeans) and Copa America (for Latin America), AFCON (for Africa which is on today actually and I’m getting ready to watch my boy Mane play) but the bulk is still the World Cup
But for the U.S teams, and non power house nations in divisions like CONCACAF the World Cup is an even a bigger chunk of that. The U.S mens nor womens can ask for 1 million per friendly like a team like Brazil can… actually I think Brazil asks 2 million now? I dunno I don’t feel like googling it. You get the point. Now you can google the ratings for games on your own, its very easy to find.
@zecarlo I’m confused about your reply to pfury. what are the ‘trolls’ ignoring again? the men make more despite not going to the World Cup? are you saying that is an example of discrimination towards the women’s team?
Emily the USWNT came to the table with these “negotiation tactics” in the first place. They played into the landscape, the knew very well how this would go and it is why they did it. Its convenient for you to say I’m furthering an agenda by pointing out a clear consequence of feminism running amok.
You and whoever can decide that these tactics are appropriate, just like someone can believe disrespecting the flag during a national anthem is ok (I believe you think it’s wrong? where I don’t really give a shit) and I can think it is distasteful to use politics to gain support for a frivolous lawsuit
I don’t know if the US soccer federation pays the women less because of conscious discrimination. If they use your argument of women can’t beat men head to head then yes, it would be sex discrimination as well as immature and illogical.
If the women want to renegotiate their deal because of changes in the financial landscape then I don’t see a problem with it because I believe in capitalism, unlike you who believes in some sort of communist slave labor system.
Incidentally, there is a player for Arsenal who wants to renegotiate his contract and he has refused to play in any of Arsenal’s summer games. He should just accept whatever he gets like a good little girl.
I used the 14 year old boys beating the women as an example of the quality of play on the field, and as a visual entertainment product how that low quality is the reason it doesn’t translate to any meaningful professional leagues.
Negotiating your contract by public shaming and crying discrimination isn’t capitalism. You’re trying to force people to pay you what you think you deserve. You have this all fuckign backwards and your asinine example shows you have absolutely no fucking clue to the point I’m surprised you can wipe your own ass in the morning.
lol capitalism is now politicians sending a letter to the president of the USSF threatening to pull funding if he doesn’t bend to their bullshit demands. We’re ascending to new levels of stupidity we didn’t even see in that other shit show thread
the bulk of game revenues is what I meant to say as we were talking about how these articles are saying the women are making more, when they talk about this they’re talking about the game or gate revenues, in which yes the women did make more because they also went to the World Cup when the men did not. The World Cup money is a huge part of that
