and this is my main issue that I have repeated in here 100x ad nauseam. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Rapinoe and company were told these talking points and sent out there with very little information.
The USWNT is the one that made this political. This is why so many people have turned against them. @EmilyQ doesn’t get this, even though I’ve already explained this to her. Do I blame them? I dunno. Like I said, they were probably told to go out and say this because of their lawsuit. They are trying to win this case in the court of public opinion in order to put pressure on the federation to buckle to their demands. That’s their strategy.

Her prior interviews was all about lack of funding, lack of support and sexism/discrimination bleh bleh but then she does a complete 180 into capitalism to grow her sport. Uhhhh ok? You see she really doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
Everyone here can throw numbers around, and half the articles used as reference only presents a part of the argument. But the federation has already come out and said those numbers don’t paint the full picture here, so do you all think the USSF is truly shortchanging the women? and are willing to go to court of arbitration over this and risk being hammered if this is true?
Can we all stop and put our thinking caps on. The federation has already come out and said the U.S mens team makes more money, period. The only years the women made more revenue from games is the years the men did not qualify, and logically this would be the case. Every other time the men not only make more from everything else, they also make more during World Cup years, and total games.
Women’s final match in a World Cup where they WIN pulls in the same ratings as normal matches of the US men’s team does in any World Cup they are in and they aren’t even good! This is about money, not about which team is better which is the case a lot of these women are trying to make as if that is any part relevant to how sport as entertainment works.
I’m assuming most of you don’t get this because this is all new to you, none of you actually follow the fucking sport and have only been made aware of this because of the thread and then you rush to google for your information.
If the women want a bigger share (which they already do get considering) then the federation (as I understood it) wants a different collective bargaining agreement where their money isn’t guaranteed @joeviv10 The USWNT does get a guaranteed 99k a year I believe, even when injured, where the men do not. Rapinoe was asked this in an interview if she was willing to give this up to be equal to the men… guess what her answer was lol

But it is clickbait. Most of the time they leave out the part about it being wartime that these women generated such turnouts. You don’t think that’s a weeee bit of a big detail to leave out?
If they were turning out 50k+ spectators game in and game out then why can’t they do it now? Why does the USWNT turn out big crowds during the World Cup but no one gives a fuck about the professional league in the U.S? Why does every other game in the World Cup fail to bring in crowds besides the host nation?
It’s not complex, my guy. The women’s olympic hockey games between Canada and U.S always generate interest but it never translates into anything meaningful outside of that particular game. They’ve tried to fund leagues, they always collapse.
We know the answer to these questions, we’ve always known and that is part of the issue people have with the USWNT making this so political when its not political, at all. There’s nothing sexist about any of this.

Sure. But the Women’s US team ABSOLUTELY has salaries. Unless the team, the lawsuit, and the US soccer fed are all lying openly about it.
TBH I was genuinely hoping he was just super young and never had a job. It’s much easier to understand why people don’t get basic business concepts like salaries and revenue outside tournaments.

The USWNT model is rare, even for developed countries and that is part of the reason why their celebration against a Thailand team that needed a benefactor to bring them to the tournament was so fucking egregious. Their program is the best program in the world, and they are extremely privileged to have that, and yet they still cry about discrimination when there clearly isn’t any. It is fucking absurd on multiple levels.
