USA Women's Soccer World Cup

well what is the argument then? How many jerseys has Rapinoe sold? Club+Country? How much are people willing to pay to watch these games? Just to watch MLS Toronto fc I think my uncle paid 110$ per ticket.

We are talking about revenue, not results. Although revenue is linked to results.

What does a La Liga team have to do with the US soccer federation and the women’s national team?

Given the men weren’t even at the world cup, their prize money would be zero. And when they did go to the world cup they didn’t come close to winning.

What share of the total revenue the US soccer federation receives the women should be getting. Currently they get less than the men even though they bring in more.

Do you know how much the prize money the mens world cup has?
FIFA World Cup 2022 Prize Money (Confirmed) For 2018 world it was 400m to be split between the 32 teams based on how they finished. Now I know the US mens team did not qualify this time around but it gives you an idea.

Here is the prize money for the womens tournaments

400m vs 30m.

My country for example did not broadcast the womens world cup on national television. Only the final… That should tell you something. Im sure the same is similar for the rest of europe and the world.

We are comparing apples and oranges here. Maybe a bit unfair of a comparison but should the winners of the Disabled or Homeless world cup also get the same money? After all it is the world cup…

It’s not about whether all women everywhere doing anything should be paid equally or above men and it’s not about whether men’s soccer is a bigger deal in general; it’s about whether THIS women’s team, operating at THIS moment in time, is generating more revenue and/or national pride and standing and so deserves to be paid relative to these accomplishments, while the men receive earnings that are connected to their lack of accomplishment.

It’s a reversal of the old combat or firefighter arguments when discussing equal opportunity or pay - people are talking about generalities because generalities in these overarching questions are appropriate, but some dumbass always has to bring it to that women want equality when they can’t carry a 250 lb guy out of a burning house or minefield. Reasonable people say “of course, there must be reasonable exceptionality.” Here we are saying “this is an extraordinary occurrence, but it exists and they should be able to act upon it.” It is NOT about women vs men.

Why is that so difficult to understand?

It is simple. THE WOMEN DO NOT BRING IN THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT MEN DO. I dont understand what is soo hard for you all to understand.

I just listed how the whole womens world cup was not broadcasted in my country (europe) nor was it broadcasted in many other countries Im sure. The mens world cup on the other hand every single game from group stage to final was broadcasted on national television. Im sure these tv companies have to pay big money to buy the rights to broadcast these games. That is the difference… I have nothing personal against them, in fact I watched a few matches and enjoyed it.

I would love for the day to come, that we see these females make big money, but its just not realistic, and in fact unfair…

I mean how do you want to decide how much money they should earn? Based on results? Based on revenue? Based on how much the men make? Based on there height, weight? Maybe based on their sexuality lol?

I think people need to remember that the women’s team has a collective bargaining agreement that, iirc, was just re-negotiated a couple of years ago and significant part of this “controversy” stems from that agreement, which is different than the men’s agreement.

WaPo had an interesting article on it:

^^ this is the type of stuff they feed you non stop. The total of revenue of the world cup does not just depend on US viewers. It is called the WORLD cup not the US cup. It would make sense for more US viewers to watch the US WOMENS NATIONAL team play in the final then to watch Croatia vs France…

  1. they are not generating more revenue then the men
  2. if we are going to use national pride, then a us soldier should make more than bruce a.k.a caitlynn jenner.

The women should be fighting for equal % of the total revenue of the world cup as the men.

Example: Winner of Mens World Cup (Total revenue 400m) 10%
Winner of Womens World Cup (Total revenue 30m) 10%

That is real equality^^

Are you able to post the official revenue numbers? I’m sure it’s upthread somewhere, but this one got messy quick

If you think people are parroting youtube personalities when they say that the sky is blue then I wish you good luck with your life. You’ll need it.

They are great athletes, like some in the 2019 Women’s World Cup. What’s the matter? Why do you oppose posting pics of those great athletes? Huh? What do you have against those women? Huh? Stop being sexist, homie.

Hey joeviv10 I aprecciate the factual and rational nature of your posts but remember what I told you about these fellows, they don’t care about facts or reason.
It’s like arguing with your wife, nothing they answer makes any sense, so even though you’re right they won’t acknowledge.

They are mostly trolling, I mean, they can’t be this thick, can they?

Great article, which I read to about the halfway point, then skimmed because I don’t care that much about soccer or soccer players. I watched the women’s finals because my husband wanted to (a boy, go figure).

I want to make very clear that I am not FOR an increase in pay and I am not agitating for sports equality, I’m reacting to the venom with which some posters are responding to what they keep trying to make into a men v women thing. It’s not. It’s a group of employees doing what groups of employees do sometimes. I have no dog in the race and don’t care about the outcome. If they can make their case, good for them, if not oh well.

What I care about is that people not get all wound up because the employees in question are spotlighted women and that makes it some sort of unfair global trend to be mindlessly crushed.

No. None of the above. Stop looking for an argument.

I have tried to give you the benefit of the doubt here and believe you are trolling but you really are just proper thick aren’t you?

I’m sorry, perhaps I misunderstood the issue…I’m a girl, after all…are the USWNT seeking equalization of women’s pay across board for all women’s teams regardless of nationality and performance? I thought they were seeking contractual changes only for their own USA players.

But where is the money being generated from? The money doesn’t fall from the sky… It is being given to the US Soccer Federation through Fifa

Please read the above ^^

@Chris_Colucci I can’t address this?
