Upper-Normal Free Test, Low Libido

Even though my test levels are upper normal (860ng/dl) and free test is just a bit outside upper level, is it possible that I just don’t have enough FT to help libido?

I am very muscular and have been working out intensely since 1992. Is it possible my pool of FT is used up (so-to-speak) by musculature/physical activity that not much is left for libido needs all other things being in good range, including dht?

Maybe boosting test into low 1000s would help? Do some guys need out of range (upper) test levels to get libido?

We need more info to help out such as: Full blood panel including thyroid and Estrogen levels, It is very common to see a libido issue with elevated E2 even when total or free testosterone is above range. However, libido can be affected by sleep, stress, drug use, anxiety, etc so more objective info would be ideal.

I’ve posted that info on other threads. I’ve had e2 low and high.

I’m just looking for general answers regarding whether FT can be used up by a more muscular guy, leaving his libido lacking?.

There’s so much more to libido than just testosterone, getting 8 hours of restful sleep each night is important. Emotional instability can kill libido, low thyroid can mess with libido.

It doesn’t appear that you frequently run labs, I see threads with no labs in them.

Is it possible to just have someone answer the question I’ve asked?

I’m looking for general info.

No. Doesn’t work like that.

This question is of the imagination, if it were the case there would be countless muscular men walking around with no libido and no wives and it would be widespread and well known problem. I see muscular walking around with the most beautiful women, if you aren’t pleasing your woman you don’t have a women.

Known causes for low libido

Stress
Depression
Low Self-Esteem
Alcohol or Drug Use
Lack of Sleep
Medication
Erectile Dysfunction
Health problems

You’re E2 is low right now right? Have you tried increasing it yet?..Or letting it normalize, I should say…

@anon10035199

I had been running 50mg e3d test. e2 was lowish… 27pg/ml. I wasn’t feeling any libido, so i added some Arimidex for a good month or more to get it down lower 20s, but didn’t feel anything libido wise. So now I’m trying to raise e2 to see if maybe I’m low and THAT’s why i don’t have libido. Maybe I’m one of those guys that needs a lower T/E ratio (i.e. increase in e2 compared to Test)

Just started new protocol of 60mg test e3d. No arimidex. I’ll run this for awhile and see if i feel anything.

give it time. I always get a libido boost whenever I increase or decrease my dose slightly.

Oh i’ll give it a good 6 weeks. I’d love to get a “boost”, because that assumes I have a sex drive to begin with.

The only time I felt a bit of a sex drive was when I was on 300mg test every 2 weeks. But it didn’t last for long. Later on, in that same protocol, I dosed some preg/dhea and had one afternoon where I actually wanted sex and all plumbing worked fine.

Libido is more complicated than just T and E serum levels. Neurotransmitter play a large role as well, specifically dopamine.

you should check both, prolactin and TSH.

I have. Prolactin comes baack super low, but in range. Not sure how one would increase it.

TSH comes back 1.72 mlU/L (.40-4.50) Should this be closer to 1 mlU/L?

The results showed low prolactin was linked to several signs of poor sexual health, as well psychological health. Men with levels of prolactin that were lower than average, although still within the normal range, were more likely than men with higher levels to say their sexual function was getting worse, particularly their enjoyment of orgasm. They also had more symptoms of depression, the researchers said.

This is from an article on Live Science. Maybe this is worth looking into.

Thanks alphagunner.

I’ve researched it ad naseum and cannot find much on it. It was 3.6ng/ml (4-12).

Makes me wonder if my dopamine levels are very high given the inverse relationship between the two.

Side note @anon10035199: I am trying 80 mg test/week split e3d. Giving that a try. I have been at 60mg e3d and I feel like it’s too much.

Are you still taking tyrosine?

I’ve only been taking 500mg for the past week daily.

My low prolactin level predates the tyrosine use. BUT, logically if I have low prolactin I may have high dopamine, therefore wouldn’t need tyrosine.

On the other hand, if I had high dopamine, I’d likely have a better sex drive. I’m a mess.

I’m not to familiar with this stuff. But don’t they have an inverse relationship? Meaning if one is high, the other is low?

So, could you possibly be keeping your prolactin low by supplementing your dopamine and keeping it high?

Yes, usually if prolactin is high, dopamine is low… and vice versa.

But like I said, my use of tyrosine (a precursor to dopamine) came way after knowing I had low prolactin levels. Most doctors think low prolactin isn’t anything to be worried about.

So, at this point, I’m going to hover around 40mg test e3d and play around with dhea/preg for a bit and see what happens. I did have one day when I was experimenting with dhea/preg where I had a noticeable libido, but it was mixed with a few days of feeling like crap.

This “dialing in” stuff is exhausting. May just break up with the gf, get a dog, and call it a day. Hard to stay hopeful I can’t figure out whats wrong with me.
