Upper/Lower Assistance on 531 Forever?

Would it still be okay to do upper lower assistance instead of the push pull core?
Im doing 4 days a week

It wouldn’t be following the program, which was written by a man who is VERY good at making people bigger, stronger and faster, but I’m sure you’ll still get bigger stronger and faster if you lift weights and do conditioning.

Thanks for the response i love the OG 531 and was thinking about following it but i have no clue how to program the assistance and i do know how to add the upper lower stuff

You don’t have to program the assistance work at all. Save the programming for the main and supplemental work. For assistance, just pick an upper body push, upper body pull, and single leg/core exercise and do it for the amount of reps prescribed. You will get bigger and stronger by doing that.

Could you give an example with what exercises you would pick on OG 531

I’m not sure which 5/3/1 is OG 5/3/1, but I’m a fan of dips, chins and reverse hyper or ab wheel for ab work.

In the forever book there is a original 531 program but tbh there are just so many templates that i dont know which one i should follow anymore

Ah, yeah, that’s how I know it.

Follow whichever one you like. They all work. None of them DON’T work.

To be honest i love pushing prs and having alot of assistance this is how i love training and thats why i might prefer it over pervertor or something like that

Ok. It sounds like you should do that.

Thanks for your time man i really appreciate it

What anchor would go with original 531 leader?

Doesn’t Forever provide examples of anchors to use?

I dont think 531 original is a leader

Try running 5s progression first then and then run 5/3/1 as a leader. That’s pretty common.
