Sorry yet another question! (I’ll understand if you want to set me to ignore).
I’m looking into making a lifting platform. Now because my space is limited I think I can only fit in an 8 x 4 foot one. I notice you work in a confined space (I’m assuming your rubber mat is 8 x 4), do you think 8 x4 is a big enough area?, have you ever “stumbled” or dropped the weight outside of that?
I could go 8 x 8 but it would mean a whole gym change around and a lot more work, what do you think?, would the extra work be worth it?

Thanks for the input.[/quote]
I would never set you to ignore (I’ve only done it twice in 5 years) unless you start posting naked old man pics on my thread. Oh, wait - I do that already.
I think an 8x6 area is the minimum if you do split jerks, otherwise 8x4 seems to work pretty well. I want to clear off my mats so I have the full 8x8, but I need to get a storage shed to make that happen.
I haven’t yet stumbled or lost balance with a weight overhead, but I’m not really maxing out. I’m staying in what seems like the 80% range. If I start maxing, then I might have to move outdoors or find a real O-lifting gym.
Going froggy on the snatches in that I’m pulling my knees out to the side as I pull up. Puts me in a lot better 2nd pull position and the bar was accelerating well. Didn’t get that until the third 145 snatch. To this point I’ve been depending on my back to SWING the weight up, but once I got my knees out to the side I was able to jump with the weight using my butt and hamstrings, which is more effective and less tiring. Looking forward to next session
Polish presses just felt awful today, but I got them in.
Didn’t want to squat. Belted up tight and did em anyway and put more weight on to boot.
how much fun would it be to lift outdoors (assuming beautiful weather)? i would love to take the barbell and weights out onto the field one day…
interesting about the froggy stance helping you. i will experiment with that at some point. trying not to change too many things at once, for now. well done with the squats. i’ll add weight to mine soon… promise.
Bottom half is feeling strong strong strong. Had accupuncture yesterday for the shoulder and though the practitioner didn’t put any needles there, I can already feel more function in it. Push jerks still hurt a little, but it should subside. Setting feet closer on the front squats, which lets me get really low and bounce out of the hole better.
just popping by to see what others were up to. I had seen that you had put comments in other olympic lift threads and was just nosey to see what was going on.
good lifting. and how the hell do you squat so deep without your knees falling to pieces?
and by the way, although I’m sure its been said a thousand times, the drugs dont work, they just make you worse.
Thanks all. It was a fluke win. There was a lifter there who would have won had he read the rules on proper attire - close to my age, better lifter. There’s a young buck as well, working on his technique, who’s much stronger at the moment than I at O-lifting, so I gotta get moving on getting my snatch and C&J much heavier by June. In fact, he would have won had the judges not white-lighted my last snatch. I think I’ve a good chance at staying ahead, because I’m a newbie and I’m actually stronger than him on the strength-building lifts. I’m winning on age, weight and luck right now. It still tastes sweet, though.
Bluebrasil - I’ve just accepted that my knees are going to hurt…a lot and that they may not be good for much by the time I hit my final target weights. I’d like to do some heavier pulling work to balance the joint, but coach says no for now and I think I know the reason: It’ll throw off the pull form for the real lifts until I’m solid on my form.
Congrats DCA. It might have been a fluke, but I’m sure it still feels motivating. Yeah, I was wondering who the dolt was that kept failing at successively higher weights, like, WTF! Then I clicked on the video link just out of curiosity, and I said, oh…
If MJ was you, then you would be able to enjoy the incredible lightness of being, unburdened.

Snatch Pull to Knees + Snatch
137 1x5 (eventually)
Snatch
147.5 1x5 (again, eventually)
Polish Presses
145 3x3,5,6
Squats
315 3x2
345x1
275x8
I’m doing something wrong on snatches - that bar is going straight up and down and so ends up forward. It needs to come back more on the second pull. I’ve got plenty of height, but because it’s too far forward I can’t get under it stably. Just felt ‘off’ today.
Polish press - I dropped weight and I want to do more reps there.
Squats - felt like hitting a daily max. Made up the last set with a lighter higher rep set.
I’m not sure, but I think you might be doing the same rowing with your arms thing that I’m doing, instead of extending the knees. But yours look a lot better than mine!
