My right lat is more muscular than my left one. I don’t know why. I can’t explain, but I almost feel like it’s a structural problem rather than an exercise induced problem. Does anybody have any tips on how I can correct the problem?
Have you ever hurt one of you shoulders? I had a problem with this because of a shoulder injury. Until the shoulder was 100% back on par, my lats weren’t even (i needed some tissue work done to de-impinge the shoulder). So it could be more than just a training imbalance.
Have a picture taken of your upper body; is one shoulder girdle elevated more than the other?
If so, you’ve got some tightness that needs to be addressed.
I have had a similar problem for some time now. It’s not a huge difference but I notice it. Furthermore my grip with my left hand gives out way before my right hand sometimes. BTW I don’t particularly feel any pain, but rather a feeling of something touching the muscles in my lats around my shoulderblade/upper trap. I can’t actually say I’ve ever injurted my shoulders but I have been kicked/puched ect. in the back several times. Sorry for the hijack, I just would really like some insight on this as well. I’ve done the chiropractor thing with little help. I’m assuming ART is the answer.
Are you right handed or left handed? I noticed I had the same imbalance in my lats last year. It could have been structural, since I’ve got a bad shoulder. However, my largest lat was on the side with my bad shoulder. I think imbalances from right to left are greatly dependent on your hand dominance. If you’re right handed, you always grab the weight with your right hand. Whenever you do a single arm exercise, like dumbell rows, you start with your right hand. Naturally, your right side grows larger and stronger. Try starting all your single arm exercises with your non-dominant hand. I’ve been doing this all year, and it has helped even out my lats.
