better switch to MAG-10

First of all, hello to everyone on T-Nation. For a couple years now I¢??ve been reading a lot of articles but this is the first time I¢??ve ever felt the need to post.
I¢??ve been taking whey for years now and just recently my gf has said that I should not take it. Her theory is that I am unable to digest it and her reasons behind this are as follows. That I am allergic to milk and whey is a product that comes from milk. Because I fart more often and they smell worse, and have worse body odor are allegedly indications that I am unable to digest it. It is furthermore her belief that taking something that you are sensitive to will block the absorption of other things your eating at the same time.
So she had me switch to rice protein which appears to be pretty good according to the labels marketing pitch. Although it does taste like chocolate flavored chalk powered and is a lot more expensive.
I donÃ?¢Ã??Ã??t take very much in a day even. Only 15g before, 15g during, and 45g after a workout; and then probly every second day I have a single 2 scoop shake at some point. IÃ?¢Ã??Ã??m 21 yo, 200 pounds, and 6Ã?¢Ã??Ã??1Ã?¢Ã??Ã?? with a body fat of about 12-14% and I’m taking ON and Dymatize whey - In case anyone was going to take this into consideration.
Anyways though, is it a good idea to continue taking whey or is she right that I’m not able to completely digest is and should find an alternative source?
Thanks to any responses in advance.
Next time your in bed with your girl…Put the covers over both of your heads…and let out the nastiest fucking fart your body can produce. I would suggest you do this while she sleeps. If she wakes up and throws up and continues to see you. Then you need to marry her. If on the other hand she throws up and leaves you then it was never meant to be.
On a serious note change your ptotein source until you find one that doesnt make you shit yourself. Also try eating whole foods instead of so much powdered protein. Oh and take a bath if you stink of shit.
Whey is a bi-product of cheese not milk btw
Good Day Sir

So you’re saying chewing your food does NOT stimulate the gut to produce gastric juices in preparation of food entering the stomach?
First, I didn’t mention anything about gastric juices. Don’t put words in my mouth, its rude.
Second, if we were to assume that more gastric juices were to actually help this scenario, then we would have to claim that out of the entire digestion process the problem lies in not having enough HCL and peptidases to unbind proteins in the stomach.
This is highly unlikely, whey particles aren’t so complex that they need copious amounts of said compounds to unbind them, and I would assume that if the OP was suffering from any sort of HCL-underproducing ailment that he would have mentioned it.
I find increased fiber, has allowed me to increase my protein without gagging the missus. That is not to say i learned this lesson without clearing out an entire floor of my office. (I can make this happen with solid food too, not just powdered protein.)
8 dudes and 1 girl, all walking down the stairs. I had tears in my eyes I was laughing so hard.
Phsillium Husk is really that fucking good BTW. I have had two shits in the last 60 days that didn’t come out totally clean with almost no need for TP.

Cry to someone else, not me! It wasn’t my intent, hence posed as a question, which you answered next, after you reached for a kleenex!

Then take it up with Dr. Ken Kinakin, the guy who used to recommend it.
I guess you’ll have to tell my brother that as well. He went from not being able to look at a jug of protein powder, to having no gas at all. Also, out of ~5 people I have recommended it to, 3 have claimed it helped. Just because something does pan out in a textbook, doesn’t make it not true.

I’m aware whey doesn’t require much to unbind them, but then something is causing this production of gas, so in your infinite knowledge, please explain.
I just thought my simple “it may work” approach, was better than the “just live with it” approach.
No harm in trying.
How would the OP mention HCL ailment if he doesn’t know…?

You just rebutted my reasonably logical post with a personal attack followed by name-dropping, anecdotes, and a moronic question, summed up with a poor attempt at trying to save face. How the hell can I take you seriously?
Btw, moronic question = asking me where gas production takes place if not the stomach, apparently forgetting the fact that we have intestines.
If out argument is now out of the realm of logic and into that of attacking each other, may I ask why to removed your last statement sarcastically stating that “I’ve redacted my statement, the experts have spoken!” (Or something along those lines). Is this because you’re more than willing to attack an '09er, but don’t have the balls to express your opinion against Prof X?
(And yes, I managed to read your post in that short time frame between your initial post and edit, I came back to add ‘peptidases’ to my post when I saw yours.)
When I was really “ripe” I created an inpenetratable gas force field around my office. I was so embarrassed when a female co-worker came to my office I used to try to meet them at the door so they didn’t get a full blast of my butt-aroma. I did 2 things differently to fix my problem. 1. started taking a daily probiotic and 2. switched to IsoPure. Now, its all roses (sort of).

Haha, NO, I retracted it, because I agree it wasn’t necessary/appropriate.
I was just returning from the hospital, visiting my father, and 4 hours without food left me irritable. My mistake.
I will express my opinion to anyone, with little fear of… anything.
I didn’t mean to imply that gas was produced specifically in the stomach.
Any ol’ who, it’s not worth the argument.
I didn’t read through all of the responses, but based on the few I did read, I do have some additional infor for you.
First, some individuals are allergic to milk. Not just lactose intolerant. I am and my son is as well. We cannot consume any dairy product without a severe digestive reaction, and trust me I have tried them all. I have also tried pretty much every whey protein product out there. All with bad results.
So to my suggestion for you…I hate to recommend another companies product on this website, but I have gotten great results with Carnivor from MuscleMeds. It is concentrated beef protein, no whey, no lactose, tastes terrible. I mix mine wih a small scoop of Citrucell and it tames the taste abit and gives you an extra few grams of fiber. And no digestive system backlash. Oh, one other thing…if go with the blue raspberry flavor, don’t suprised by the green stools.

I have to agree with Swami. I have a lot of digestive issues and probiotics along with Isopure did the trick. Even without the probiotics I handle Isopure great. Don’t know what’s in the whey powders that other companys make but I cant tolerate the majority of them, especially the ones with concentrate.
Not knocking Biotest, because I obviously use a lot of their products (level 4 lol) but even their protein powders are intolerable for me. I don’t care what anyone says, if you have lots of gas and bloating and are clearing out rooms with your stench something isn’t right.
Well, I think I’ll summarize this thread for benefit of anyone reading.
-
Some people get really, really gassy from whey powders and/or the massive quantities of food required to get bigger. Not only is there a large volume of gas, it is also noxious.
-
if you are one of these people, do something about it. Don’t be the gross caveman who doesn’t care that he smells like sewage. If you are one of these guys, it’s pretty obvious that you don’t care about the opposite gender - at least not the ones you don’t pay. . .But seriously, keep up your hygiene. What other people think of you matters, as does what you think of yourself. Low-hygiene people usually have low self esteem too, in my experience.
-
For the rest of us, the poisonous farts are indeed a problem. The solution: probiotics (Acidophilus consumes lactose), lactase pills, HCL (hydrochloric acid), Isopure whey powder (as has been reported), rice/pea protein powders (some people will just have to eliminate dairy), fiber, psyllium husk, drinking more water, and one that everybody forgot - VEGGIES.
Fortunately, these are mostly cheap and easy solutions.

I completely agree, especially with the VEGGIES, they clean you out which helps absorb more nutrients
