Seriously don’t over-stress. This is pretty early in the game. Like @s.gentz said, you might be low, but if you’re not dying and you’re not just dumping weight, it’s probably fine. If anything, you’ll be able to increase protein as you go (I’d bet).
@limitlessmonkey if you have the time, start a training log on here and log all your workouts and eating. We’ll be able to help you a lot better that way vs this “one day in the life” approach.
Mate you should try fat feee Greek yoghurt as a protein source if you’re sick of shakes. I add in a splash of maple syrup to a giant tub and just go to town on that stuff.
Depending on the starting point, it may not be necessary to count your calories.
First, rebalance your diet, make sure you have protein at each meal to support the training, and eat enough (good) lipids for the hormonal side. And as many have said, having fruits and vegetables will add food volume (for vegetables) and provide vitamins and other nutrients (for fruits) and if they are in season it is even better.
That used to be one of my favorites. I somehow developed an allergy to milk. Makes me all stuffed up and I just feel run down when I have it but I do miss it. I have tried the lactose free without much success.
Another thing I loved was adding in frozen blueberries, cinnamon and a little bit of honey or monk fruit sweetener. Nice after dinner ice cream type treat.
Body transformation is on track. I’m working with my coach on body recomp. I averaging 1.25lbs down per week. I was barely taking any carbs in and my diet was shit. Lots of sugar, binge eating, shit snack food, tons of fat. I’d been workimg out in the gym hard for more than a year prior to this challenge and hadn’t seen any changes in the mirror in about 8 months. Looking back on my “diet”, it’s no surprise. Anyway, I no longer eat sugar, snack or binge eat. I eat only whole foods that I or my wife prepare. I’m eating a higher volume of food than ever before and I’m feeling changes in the sense that my clothes are getting looser, and I’m seeing small changes in the mirror, although nothing drqmatic as of yet. I’ve only been doing this for a month, but the results are amazing to me. I’m on TRT+ (prescribed 200mg Test-c per week, taking 250 for an extra boost in helping with body recomp) and no other enhancements. Diet change and workout prescribed by my coach is a game changer. I’ll post progress pics at the beginning of February, and periodic ones each month thereafter. Good luck on your individual journeys, everyone.
I’m a big fan of Stan Efferding’s idea of the 10 minute walk post meals. Simple way to get in 30 minutes of cardio a day, and a walk post meal has SO many benefits.
And on the discussion of whey alternatives, alongside greek yogurt, I know @QuadQueen and I are both on board the cottage cheese train. And as wild as it sounds, I used to mix that with PB2 and found it to be quite a treat. I’d actually include an avocado as well, which made it really creamy.
Bumping so i can find this easier next time.
I’m considering the terrible idea of… gulp… counting calories.
The mere act of counting would reduce my intake.
But almost everything i eat, i cook myself, and in family-size batches. so with no scale its not really straightforward. Hmmm.
What are people’s thoughts on counting cals in general?
I like counting and this is a primary reason - we just tend to clean it up when we have to account for it.
I think a food scale is like $10 if you want one.
My general thinking is that calorie counting is a fantastic way to establish a baseline, establish real control over your diet, and learn to better estimate in the future. I don’t think you have to obsess over perfect counts, and it doesn’t even make sense to do so because of the margins of error on all sides of the equation. I also don’t think it’s something you should do forever. For a timeframe or for a specific goal, though, I’ve found it to be a tool that actually provides me more freedom and peace of mind than not doing it. If, however, it’s something that stresses you out, or you can’t do it without getting neurotic, I think it’s probably not the best method for you and there’s better routes.
