Weirdly, I needed to be reminded of this simple and well-known fact.
I don’t count calories, and I’ve relied at times on “keto” or “keto-adjacent” eating to lose fat. But ultimately, if you drink a quart of heavy whipping cream and smash salami while watching TV, you can gain weight on Keto. And now that I’ve dropped several pounds, the mere absence of bread (Tx Roadhouse rolls to be exact) is no longer enough to keep them coming off. I will need to increase my calorie expenditure and/or decrease my caloric intake regardless of the fat/protein/carbs ratios.

So: thank you @T3hPwnisher and @TrainForPain for reiterating the basics here.

And I think this ties in to the recent blog post on “there is no observer effect”. Doesn’t matter what the math or the rules say.

Really appreciate that tie in dude!

I’ve definitely fallen for the “keto trap” before. “So long as there’s no carbs, it’s good”. Yeah, you can get fat that way AND you can get unhealthy that way too, haha. Especially these days where there is SO much keto junk food out there. It’s a good vector, because slashing carbs can get rid of a lot of garbage, but we humans are pretty good at finding substitutes, haha.

Love it!

I’ve definitely seen this with myself. I struggle with the lower fat dieting that @T3hPwnisher crushes, because I don’t manage my calories well that way. Carbs tend to fill me up quicker (higher volume foods that I just don’t enjoy as much as a pound of ham), so that’s a better dieting tool for me. Like you point out - these specific choices are just vehicles driving us down the caloric deficit highway, but that’s the road we have to be on.

@throwawayfitness If you google “Mythical Strength blog” you’ll find my blog, and that specific post is the second most recent one.

@TrainForPain the more and more I live this life, the more I realize that all diets and styles of training work: it’s simply a matter of finding the one that gels with you on a personal level. It’s not the diets or programs that need adjusting: it’s the humans. Biggest issue is trying to fit the square peg in the round hole.

Pure truth. Simple, obvious, underappreciated.

Oh my gosh I want to go down this route. I’ve lived a lot of places and folks ask “where’s best/ my favorite?” Different places land different at different points in life. I liked certain towns when I was young and single, and couldn’t stand them later when I had kids. The town didn’t need a whole new identity to accommodate me; it’s me that had to find a fit.

Holy cow that’s a fantastic analogy. And that can circle right back as well, because sometimes a diet or program that worked for us won’t work for us NOW, because we’re different now than we were then. Trying to always be the same person is an impossible ask. “You can’t step into the same river twice”, alongside Machiavelli’s note to be able to adapt to fortune.

And we have to celebrate this, because change IS the goal. If we weren’t forced to adapt to these changes, it would mean we failed to achieve our goal.

That’s a great perspective. I’m not giving something up, I’m evolving purposefully.

These are fun logic trains

Ask 1000 people how much they have changed in the last 10 years, and how much they expect to change in the next 10.
Invariably, the answers aggregate to: a lot last 10; not much next 10.

We are unaware of our own tendency to change, except in hindsight.

Tough week for working out. Have woken up with a lot of back pain twice (goes away, probably sleeping funny). Mental game not in it with wife out of town.

So excuses but physique actually still looks good and honestly muscles feel a little better with the slight break.

Well, I have opted to quit MMS after day 11. I just can’t dedicate the time and resources to bulking right now. I was having a tough time staying in the mentality of bulking and being “on” for so long, and was taking about 5 days between lifting just for the time factor.

Weight topped out at 225-226 in the morning. I stopped tracking weight a week or two ago and stopped stuffing my face around the same time… Weighed in at 219 last night before dinner. The plan is to not weigh myself again for a while, I’ll just use the mirror as a guide. It’ll be pretty easy to tell if I’m losing fat.

Hit a 250x1 (with some to spare) bench PR during MMS. Also, a 415x1 squat PR while setting TMs for my upcoming 531 cycles. Going to take some time to set legit TMs so I can keep running 531 for a bit. Hopefully I’ll hit some more PRs in the process.

The widowmakers that are coming up are pretty scary.

On your frame, 225 must be freakin Huge.

Okey doke people I’m putting up my final photos for consideration.

I explained why in my log however it’s down to a combination of change of training goals and family commitments

Good luck to everyone who is continuing to smash it.

I’ve had quite a number of comments on how I look bigger, haha. It’ll be interesting to see where I end up as I lean out. I think this was a substantially successful gaining block.
