Ultimate Off Season vs Speed Manual

I'm trying to decide which of these to buy as i cannot afford both of them. One of them is Eric Cressey's ultimate off season training manual, and the other is kelly baggett's ultimate speed manual. I'm just wondering for those that have read both which you found to be more helpful at improving your athleticism.

Also if you have only read one but it has helped you accomplish your goals and get some gains in speed and strength id love to hear about it as well.
Thanks guys!
Sean

Though I’ve never read either book, I would have to suggest you go with Kelly’s manual. Both EC and KB know their stuff, but I’ve talked back and forth with Kelly for years and I would trust any information he gave you to be spot on.

Thanks. Anybody else?

I have both and you can’t go wrong with either one. Right now I personally prefer the speed manual because its warmer outside right now and I like getting out on the track and doing some sprints.

Once fall/winter come around and it gets colder, I’ll switch over to doing the ultimate off season because it has more things that you can do at the gym you work out at with a little room.

As far as gains, I took about .01 seconds off my 40yard dash after 4 weeks using the speed manual, but that could be due to more efficiency using my strength. My vertical also went up to about 3 inches as well from 24 to 27 inches.
Just flip a coin. It’s a win-win situation.

Hey thanks for the reply. I thought i probably couldn’t go wrong with either.

since i started working out (legs), i slowed down/stopped doing alot of my plyometrics and jump work(used to do for biking)

since last summer, my legs are literally twice as strong as they were, but because of the diminished jump work, my vj is still about the same (hopefully will go up considerably once i start doing dedicated jumpwork)

that being said, i know my standing long jump has improved and after a few track practice sessions, my speed has improved greatly,w/ the vj, its going to take a little more time and coaxing though i think

-thats just heavy squats, off and on deadlifts, olympic lifts etc

-as long as you keep the speedwork up at the same time you should find increases in everything, and i’m one of the only people i know whos vj has suffered since training legs (if training well), and its just because i used to do so much jumping relative to now and i am a bit heavier so its more work/less reactive

i still feel more powerful and deliberate in movements, but weight more, dont have quite the same lightfootedness if that makes sense, but again, more powerful through my movements anyways…forget it, i’m going back to bed
