I laugh my ass off when Diego keeps on mentioning his love for God, which is his religion and right, but then he goes and says “like a pitbull I smelled blood and went after it”. I still think he’s damn cool, and funny when he screams “YES!”.

Did God help him knock up that chick out of wedlock?

He’s a badass, but dumber than dirt.

Yeah, it was a close fight. Forrest was more agresive, but less conditioned.

Great decision to give both of them a contract.

Shamrock just got the white beat off him.

I guess it is time for Shamrock to retire, and stick to coaching. They guy slipped twice and got knocked out because of that.

What a fight bonnar / griffin was. I called both fights last week and I was right although Forrest had me wondering…he kept it up.

I think the first round went to forest no questions – the second and third were too close to even call…just an all out slugfest!

My girlfriend asked me after the fight, before the announcement if only one got a contract…I said in this fight, they should both get one.

Too bad they only show other UFC fights on pay per view…or I’d become a fan.

anyone know the results of the fights that where not shown on tv?

I’ve got my tickets to UFC52 and am going to put my money on “The Natural”.

As quoted on March 2!

Anyhow, that was a tremendous event for the UFC. Some questions for everyone:

(1) Do you agree what was said about Bonnar/Griffin being the greatest fight in UFC history? I will say it is one of the most impressive that I’ve ever seen. Sure, it doesn’t have the historical signifigance of many of the early UFC bouts, but I really don’t think that statement was too far off-mark.

(2) What was the deal with Ken slipping? He fell down twice. The first, I believe was on a shoot attempt, which actually worked out pretty well for him anyhow. The second, well, pretty much spelled disaster for him.

(3) So, Diego is one crazy bastard, eh?

~Terumo

I wouldn’t say he’s crazy, he’s just not “intelligent”.

definitely not the brightest chip in the salsa dip.

Ole`

I thought they were going to stop the fight when forrest got cut bad. I glad they didn’t. One of the best fight I’ve seen. What the hell was up with Ken slipping? Slippery shoes? It’s too bad Rich going back to 185 weight class, I would love to see him fight Tito. The damn show got me hooked. I’ve been renting all the old fights on DVDs.

Here’s the non-televised matches. Looks like Bobby failed to win against Sam.

Light Heavyweight Bout (205 lbs.)
Sam Hoger (5-0-0) from Davenport, Iowa, won a unanimous decision after three rounds over Bobby Southworth (8-4-0) from Santa Cruz, Ca., with a a well-rounded attack standing and on the ground.

Middleweight Bout (185 lbs.)
Chris Leben (17-1-0) from Portland, Ore., won a TKO over Jason Thacker (4-2-0) from Whonnock, British Columbia, at the 1:35 mark of the first round. The fight was a grudge match holdover from the TV show when Leben ridiculed Thacker in the second episode. Thacker landed a hard right at the outset, but Leben recovered and went to a ground and pound attack for the win.

Middleweight Bout (185 lbs.)
Josh Koscheck (5-0-0) from Buffalo, NY, defeated Chris Sanford (5-1-0) from San Francisco, Ca., by escaping a strong leg lock and landing elbow strikes and punches to win a TKO at the 4:21 mark of the first round.

Middleweight Bout (185 lbs.)
Nate Quarry (12-1-0) from Gresham, Ore., who never fought on the show due an ankle injury sustained in training, defeated Lodune Sincaid (15-3-0) from N. Hollywood, Ca., by TKO at the 3:17 mark of the first round.

Light Heavyweight Bout (205 lbs.)
Mike Swick (7-1-0) from San Jose, Ca., knocked out Alex Schoenauer (10-1-0) from Las Vegas, Nev., in 20 seconds of the first round by landing four powerful strikes at the start of the fight.

Welterweight Bout (170 lbs.)
Alex Karalexis (5-0-0) from Las Vegas, Nev., knocked out Josh Rafferty (7-4-0) from Cincinnati, Ohio, with a powerful right hand strike at the 1:40 mark of the first round.

thank god i am not the only guy who thinks he is a good fighter and an idiot.

Sanchez is a skilled fighter, but I can’t tolerate people who say "i won the game/fight because God was with me/looking out for me"etc etc. SO arrogant and stupid. RIght, God loves you and doesn’t love whoever and so made them lose.

Also, his path to the contract was way too easy. Kenny Florian is a much smaller guy and was simply outmuscled.

Forrest and Stephen have no defene at all, esp Stephen. THey would get massacred against many current UFC competitors standing up.

Can u imagine them against ANY of the light heavies in the PRIDE tournament, not to mention Chuck and Randy?

Silva, Vovchanhcyn, Belfort, Jackson, etc would knock em out in seconds,

WHat about on the ground vs Sakuraba, Nogueira, Arona, etc?

Massacre.

-Rant_

After rewatching some of the episodes during the marathon, I’m really upset about the size diffrences betw the fighters.

Swick should never have been in with Stephen. Swick walks around without cutting at 192, and Bonnar had to CUT to get to 205.

Matt Hughes, that animal, walks around off-season in the 190s and cuts to 170!

Same thing with Florian. That guy is simply average sized and has no business being in the ring with a 5’11, 185 pounder.

I despise weight differences because fighters should be evenly matched, not 20 lbs heavier.

Also, did any y’all notice after the Hoger/Forrest fight that Hoger only reveived 1 punch in the face on the ground and that fight should not have been stopped? Meanwhile, Forrest’s face was hamburger.

I still get a kick out of forrest… Hey forrest whats your gameplan? - Well, i’m gonna go out and let him punch me in the mouth, then i’ll figure it out from there.

Kid just straight up loves to fight, which makes him pretty dangerous if he ever got really skilled.

My post from the “Ken Shamrock Retire?” thread.

Ken comments made it sound like it’s a possibility that he’ll retire. But there’s a lot of odd stuff going on with UFC and things being discussed on various boards. Some include accusations of fixed fights and so on. For anyone else who watched it, what the hell was that first fall to the mat. Franklin didn’t even hit him. I thought Ken did it deliberately in an attempt to confuse Franklin and then go for the heel hook, but it looked odd. I agree that the second slip/fall during the high kick was legit, but he just laid there as Franklin took the mount and then begin dropping fists. Ken did nothing. He was bruised during the interview, so he was definitely hit, but there’s more to it.

Franklin had just signed an 8-fight contract the day before and is being touted as the next poster-child for the UFC’s promotional campaign. Additionally, Spike TV only gave them five minutes for that last match and would have pulled the plug if they started to run overtime. Kinda the same thing with the Forrest/Bonner fight which I feel was either too close to call or could have possibly gone to Bonner instead. Even Forrest was surprised at the ruling when you watch the video again. It was a great stand up fight. Some people, however, are saying that the two were asked to keep it on their feet to help appeal to the Toughman crowd and those potential new fans not familiar with MMA.

Just some odd stuff, whether true or not. I’ve kinda lost as much interest in the UFC especially after implementing the timed rounds and tighter restrictions. PRIDE FC is definitely the better of the two.

Update: Randy lost to Chuck tonight. Also, all the fighters on the UFC show ended up getting a contract. It wasn’t a 6 figure contract Forrest and Diego got, but they got one.
