curious what you folks out there with either of these diseases (both belonging to the family of illnesses categorized as inflammatory bowel disease) have learned over your tenure with the illness. i got diagnosed in 2004 (when i was 22), and have learned quite a bit in the 20+ years since.

the very short version is that low-ish carbohydrate eating (essentially elimination of starches) has been quite effective for me when applied over time. it’s a sort of carnivore-ish approach with certain fruits (primarily avocado) and well-cooked vegetables. abstinence from drugs and alcohol, and time-restricted eating/intermittent fasting (preferably 20-ish hours off, 4 hours on as an eating window).
i’ve used tons of medications/drugs for this illness. i’ve also noticed that the fatter and more out-of-shape i am, the more severely symptomatic i am.
