UK T-Cell 3

There seems to be more and more people from Britain posting here now.

Thought I’d start this thread to see how many people there are and how they train etc.

There seems to be quite a few Westside followers now, myself being one.

So post here and we can see if there’s enough interest to get together.

Cheers
Stubob.

howdy, i dont do westside but i thought i would throw my name i here anyway.
My name is Paul and i am in Hull.
did you know Hull is the fattest city in the UK?

Hi stu,

having a happy afternoon teaching undergrads today so just a quick note to say I’m around and up for some decent chat about training.

Had to put up with some gimp trying to rush me out the power rack this morning whilst doing my speed squats!

Training going well and lifts going up nicely, hopefully it’ll be a good deads session next meet but no chance of keeping up on the bench press, your arms are just to short!

On that topic, i finally discovered how to get all the pressure on my upper traps whilst benching, discovered it by accidnet this morning, the optimal foot position and arch, really felt natural grove of the bar, pity i was doing dynamic bench would have been interesting to see how much weight i could have shifted.

Bikeboy - I heard that on GMTV or something like that (the wife watches it, so don’t take the piss…). How long have you been training and what are your goals…?

DrSTU - I wish we had a power rack, never mind. I can just about manage with a Squat rack. I did my Squat 1RM on Monday.

I got the figure that I expected 200kg/440lbs.

I tried 210kg/462lbs but got pinned at the bottom. I went down slowly got to just below parallel and then started to go up and stalled. Everything went out the window, I didn’t focus on the glutes or hips, I started breathing to try and get up but just got stuck. Rob my spotter couldn’t get me up so I had to go down.

I was doing it on a Squat rack and just had to go down until it took the bar.

A little dissapointed. I should’ve taken a bit more time between attempts also. I was training with my training partner Lee and also Rob who owns the gym and is stronger/bigger than me - he’s currently dieting for a show in April. So I did my set of 200kg and then Lee did 160kg and then Rob did 200kg, then it was me again.

After I did 200kg Rob stepped up, he did 7 reps on 200kg… I couldn’t believe it - I told him he was taking the piss…haha…

My training partner Lee has done really well though, he’s only been training for a year now. Training with me for about 9 months.

I’m doing Bench max this week so I will post and let you know how that goes…

Cheers
Stubob

Stubob,
not to worry mate it happens to us all, that is eactly what the Max effort day is about(not being pinned though!)
still you have a solid base to work from.
Though I would make sure next time you have a spotter who can help you re rack it.
That weekend visit in March is ok,we shall concentrate on the Squat and some good assistance exercises to help it.

hi Stubob,
i am a bit of a newbie. i started out 18 months ago weighing 140 but thanks to discovering t-mag about a year ago i have got myself up to a respectable 175. i train in my garage where i have a squat rack and various other basic bits and pieces. as far as my goals go i am still just trying to gain lbm and get stronger. nothing surprising there.
btw i saw your pics and you are built like a brick shithouse.nice work

bikeboy

Hey guys,

just thought i’d introduce myself, I am in Liverpool at the mo. Never done Westside but have recently started to read up about it an hopefully start something later in the year.

Been training for around 2.5 years. Last time weighed myself i was at 182, bulking at the mo with OVT and QD

Beni - That’s quality, cheers mate. Rob is a big bloke just couldn’t get me and the barbell back up. I just wasn’t moving anywhere. I was able to lower down a bit further and let it go on the squat rack.

Bikeboy - I made a lot of progress after discovering this site. Before that it was Muscle and Fitness crap and people in the gym who did the same thing year in year out and 3 sets of 10, thank heaven for this place. I did lots of Ian King stuff and some of Christian Thibeadeau’s programs. Then I found Westside and trained with Beni.

As for Brick shithouse, cheers but I’d like to be a little bigger and a lot stronger. But wouldn’t we all.

Tokman - I’ve seen you posting a few things.

If you have any questions about Westside feel free to ask. I’ve only just started but might be able to help because of that. If not then Beni can answer anything Westside related. He is our guru…

Cheers
Stubob…

Hi Guys,

This is great we can talk about all things British, that the Amercans wouldn’t know about, such as Tony Blair, ‘The Office’ and the rise in Obesity.
East London dweller, let myself go last few years, but now i have new direction so getting back to it.
As a kid i used to love the idea of being heryooj, but now i can’t stand it, so will get my fat 272 arse (not ass, since we don’t have to cater for americans here) down to 225-230 by summer and have that heryooj 40in waist down to the low 30’s where it belongs.

good luck nomojo, in my younger days i was bit of a large kid, it was fucking pain, i got to waste 36 when i was only 16!!!.

Thankfully now it’s 32, well good to meet you guys and it’s a good to get some british topics going.

Who wants to start something, politics, sport, media, whatever!!!

I’ve got a topic, the f’in pathetic state of children’s mathematics in this country.

I’ve just spent the last 2 hours trying to teach the thickest shits on earth how to do some basics maths, I’m at leeds uni and our biochemistry is in the top 5 in the country so we shouldn’t have any major thickies but god damn they were dense!

haha stubob got pinned, that makes both of us then! 200kg x 7 is fookin insane though, he must be one big lad!

still watin for the weather to improve so i can get the sled out a bit more, don’t wanna train in the cold too much as my bro just got diagnosed with sports induced asthma brought on by the cold, never experineced it myself but don’t wanna risk it!

Hi fellas,
I am from Leicester.
Been doing W/side for about 3 years now.I thought it was only two years but today i found bill from jump stretch for the bands i bought and it was 2001!
Self taught mostly. Bought chains and bands and a bench video. Had to take a trip to Beni who sorted my box squat out.Need to go back soon for a refresher.
No goals other than to get stronger and stay that way.Been training B.B style for 100,s of years and just got fed up.
I have to say that just lately things have started to take off. I am hitting PR,s all over.Today, by coincidence,i tested my raw bench and did 110 kgs for 3 and 120 for 1. In the past 115 on 2 boards was a single!
The most influential t-magger for me is Big Martin. I have incorporated a lot of his stuff into my training.
Nobby

Hi guys, only been doing westside about 3 months.

I started out with regular bb stuff about 2 years ago, then got into chad waterbury’s strength training ideas and then I thought, f*ck it lets just do some real training.

No numbers yet, but should have some in another month or so.

drstu,
i know what you mean. i was in the lab with first year chemistry students the other day and one of them added a chunk of sodium to a flask of water and nearly blew their friggin hand off. i know it is not maths, but this is something that you are told not to do at GCSE level. i think the exams are to blame. they really do get easier every year.

Bikeboy, thank god someone else has experienced it! It was the fact that the kids couldn’t see that if they worked out a gradient and then used an equation I gave them that they could work out the next step, so i told them how to do it and they were still stumped, aaaghh.

Had fun this morning letting some people play on the box squat, had the greenies either side so one lad tried to squat down and back up, barely made it and then proceeded to so 10 sets of 2 with 110kg, nice and fast just to let them know that their training sucks and they should join the westside.

STU

guys excuse my ignorance of westside, what is the fundamental aim of westside, mass, strnght …

Westside for Strength period!
But i’ve had more size gains on this than any other program.

UK T-cell 3 good idea. Well i’ve been training WSB for 4mths now. I am still weak but stronger than i was. Pre WSB Weight 82kg height 5’11"

Bench 110kg
Squat 140kg
Deadlift 160kg mixed
Clean 80kg
Snatch 35kg

Current Weight 90kg
Bench 122.5kg
Squat 150kg
Deadlift 160kg OH grip but was just mucking around
Clean 105kg
Snatch 80kg

Might not seem like alot but i’ve been stuck on these numbers for a year. And I’m sure these are all higher than that but need to retest.

don’t undersell urself creed, those are really impressive numbers.

Where could i find a sample westside routine from

Tokman - Read the 8 keys by Dave Tate found here - Strength Training, Bodybuilding & Online Supplement Store - T NATION - this is part 4 and has links to the first three.

Also good reading is The Periodisation Bible parts 1 and 2 again by Dave Tate. Found here Strength Training, Bodybuilding & Online Supplement Store - T NATION and here Strength Training, Bodybuilding & Online Supplement Store - T NATION

Also good reading are the articles at elitefitnesssystems.com which is Dave Tate’s website. Any more questions then feel free to ask here. As you can see the majority of the poster so far train Westside. Beni is the main man when it comes to Westside as he runs Westside UK.

Hope that helps.
Stubob

Hey, I’ve been training just under a year, I played with westside for a while, but that’s not how I’m training at the moment.

Some numbers:

Height 6’ Weight 180lbs

Bench 100kg
Dead 160kg

Haven’t tested squat recently, I would guess around 130-140kg. Working on getting dead and squat up to 200kgs…
