Yea, like I said that’s always a possibility. You’ve always been a BJ Penn fan so when that is put out there by Penn, or his team you would be more likely to buy it. I too would be more susceptible if I actually liked him, but I don’t so I don’t believe it. Funny how our emotions actually rule over the more logical part of our brain.

In fact, I can tell you right now that if Couture loses to Toney it was a lucky punch. It would have to be because I like Randy Couture. Most people vote the same way, it’s a real shame huh?

But, yea GSP could have been greased I wasn’t there. But more than likely he ran into a better fighter, at least that night. That’s what I want to believe.

lol, no worries, i have no desire to rehash that whole thing again…we did it ad naseum on here after that fight, and the result was that i was repeatedly subjected to footage of bj laying on his back getting pummeled with elbows…on the otherhand, i dont think bj is one of those guys who will stick around the sport after his time has passed him by - he has a pretty realistic outlook on the lifespan of a fighter’s career

Says this:

Then this(@4:19):

Hilarious…this guy is a character. I guess he’s serious about a career in politics.

im interested in seeing if the power of self-delusion really works for him

Whoo ee Silva gave him the staredowns to end all staredowns.

Do you think that he believes what he’s saying, or is it an attempt to psych out Silva? Some would call it a poor attempt, but Silva has been playing the part of primadonna lately. I do think that Sonnen is being underestimated by the odds makers, and I like the betting odds.

I think it’s more of an attempt to sell the fight. Plus if he makes a half decent showing, along the lines of Henderson, or even Rich Franklin II, he’ll make one hell of a name for himself.
While Chael has ragged on Silva non-stop, he has never put down his skills or his claim to the title. He’s been upfront in breaking down the fight too, saying if he is unable to get hold of Silva and drag him to the mat, the fight may as well end.

It’s probably a little bit of both. I think he’s saying a lot of what he’s saying to try to sell the fight (to prove that he can sell a big fight in the future). But I think he’s also hoping that his comments will get to Anderson and cause him to get emotional and possibly fight a dumb fight.

By the way, for anyone who hasn’t watched the 117 press conference, do yourself a favor and check out Chael and Silva’s segments. There is some comedy gold in there.
Chael is easily the best troll in the history of MMA.

A snippet (paraphrased):
Helwani: Have you received any backlash from your comments about Lance Armstrong?
Chael: I never receive backlash from my comments, I receive praise for the things I say. In fact I won my last election by 99.6% of the votes.
(awkward pause)
Helwani: Was that the unopposed election?
Chael: (with a suppressed grin) That is correct.

Alves and Dana were cracking up everytime the two opened their mouths.

^^^Thank you for that^^^

that press conference was HIgh-larious.

I think sonnen is both a little nutz and selling the fight.
hope me does put on a good enough show.

whats going on with Alves and not making weight- maybe he needs to move up.

171.5 lbs. He had half a pound to go, so my guess is he didn’t want to take a risk with his health, given his recent brain surgery. He’ll lose the 20% of his purse, but in all likely-hood keep the title-shot.

If I were Alves, I’d stick with the WW division. MW has a handful of top contenders going up against a seemingly invincible champion, with the rest of the division being straight up shallow. WW, is the second deepest division in the UFC. Plus, he’s primarily a striker, and would give up height and reach at MW (72 inches).

Im not really suggesting he move up to middleweight-
he is too short he would loose speed too I agree.

good analysis I forgot he had surgery

He is a big WW but he has missed weight twice , in his fight a few years ago he mistimed his
diuretics and got caught fined etc.

Its hard not to be critical- ( surgery not realy counting) with fighters that cant make weight.

for sure, missing once is bad, but shit happens…twice before big name fights, no bueno

And why is he getting a title shot? This is kind of a slap in the face to Fitch.

The winner gets one, so says Mr. White in yesterday’s press conference.

I know I just think it’s some bull.

Sonnen is clearly out of his mind, but I do think part of it is salesman ship. None of that is really gonna matter when he gets in the cage and realizes his mouth wrote a check that his fists can’t cash.
