UFC Fight Night

I would like to hear what Donut62 thinks of Heath Herrings performance and comments at the end of his bout.

…But the real money shot was Rashad Evan’s ultra brutal knockout of Salmon. I was laughing when I saw Salmon’s karate-kid imitation attempt, but man that was the Knockout of 2007.

I hope he is ok, even after the decision the guy was still on the floor. Many have complained about Rashad’s lackluster battles in the past, but the guy is turning into a skilled beast. Though Salmon was able to surprisingly (given similar wrestling backgrounds perhaps not)take him down quite a few times and put him in trouble.

If you watch the replay you can see Captain America’s mouth is wide open during that shot, lol.

After watching this show last night, add Hermes Franca to my list of favorite fighters. Is it possible to not like this guy? I hope he gets a title shot from his performance.

I was disappointed in Herring’s performance, but from what I’ve heard and seen before this isn’t all that unusual from him. Good thing for O’brien that they don’t allow knees to the head from the ground, because Heath would’ve gotten some really good shots in.

And one question- why in the world didn’t they show the Marquardt/Lister fight? That’s the one I was most looking forward to. >:(

Oh yeah, nice kick from Rashad. It was a good preview of what’s coming next Saturday.

Herring is a turd. It was obvious he over looked the match and under trained. While Heath is no Fedor, that performance was definetely not indicative of the “Good Heath” that beat Kerr and Igor. That was the Herring that went to the 3rd round against Giant Silva (look it up, it’s true!).

I also don’t think he adapted his training to the octagon and to UFC rules. He was too used to the liberal stand up rules and yellow cards in Pride (of which O’ Brian would have got 30, Jesus, Paulo Filho does more on top). I was laughing hysterically as Herring was yelling to Big John to “stand it up” while Jake was passing his piss poor half gaurd.

Furthermore, Heath for some reason thinks he’s a goddamn kick boxer. He’s a good wrestler with good G n’P. I think he bought into his own hype and expected to knock O’ Brian out. When you know your own strengths and move away from them purposefully you are going to lose.

They should feed him to Mirko again as punishment.

When I heard they were going to do Marquardt-Lister, I thought they had made the boringest match-up they could possibly make in the UFC. That just isn’t a good match-up. They are good fighters of course, and I think they felt they had to have them face each other to decide who gets a title shot.

Joe Silva originally had set that fight as the main event for this card. Unfortunately, Spike TV executives stepped in and said they wanted no part of another Marquardt main event (due to his snoozefest versus Salavery) and Silva had to bump that match to ‘swing bout’ status.

Marquardt apparently beat the ever living crap out of Lister but he was once again unable to finish his opponent , so they chose to show Herman finishing Price to kill time before the main event instead.

According to Dave Meltzer Salmon was out for seven minutes after the kick.
Sean Salmon update

by Dave Meltzer

UFC officials reported after tonight’s Ultimate Fight Night show in Hollywood, FL, that Sean Salmon was okay.

Salmon suffered a devastating knockout from a kick to the head by Rashad Evans in the main event of the show.

It was a scary looking situation, as Salmon didn’t move for approximately seven minutes in the ring, nor as he was carried out on a stretcher. They went off the air without acknowledging the extent of the knockout. Evans, in his post-match interview, only indicated being uncomfortable that Salmon was down and not moving. They never shot near where Salmon was, so the television viewers would not have known the seriousness of the situation.

He was rushed to a local hospital where it was reported that he was conscious and talking, and seemed to be fine.
He deserved to be knocked out after this…

Lights out…

I’m not familiar with Heath’s background, but from what I saw last night he looked liked he has little wrestling ability. I think my 140lb little brother could out wrestle Heath.

Saw the reverse angle on youtube this morning. The camera shot you psoted is much better

textbook “Knocked the the F#$% out!”

Herring’s complaints at the end of the fight about being held down would’ve carried a little more weight if he hadn’t been mounted like 20 times during that fight, jeezus…I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone give up his back or get mounted so many times in an UFC event. Of course that doesn’t speak very highly of O’Brien’s ability to end the fight. That was one of the most frustrating fights I’ve ever watched…I kept wanting someone to end it, I didn’t care who, and they just kept rolling around all ineffectual like.

Yup - totally amazing knock-out by Rashad. Salmon was pole-axed - he went over like a tree trunk! Also, totally class of Rashad to mention how he wasn’t happy that Salmon was still laid out after the fight. Impressive guy.

And Herring was pissed as hell at his performance. That Irish kid had him locked up on the ground, and just kept taking Herring down.

Great night, definitely. The light-weight bouts were cool too. Hermes was impressive…
