UFC Buys WFA

Rumors are starting to fly now …

Dana White has confirmed that the following contracts were purchased from the WFA:

  • Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson
  • Razor Rob McCullough
  • Ivan Salavery
  • Urijah Faber
  • Heath Herring

There is also another rumor (take this one with a HUGE grain of salt) that Ken Pavia, Jason Miller’s agent, has confirmed that Mayhem has also been scooped up as part of the WFA deal.

Hopefully, all of these rumors prove to be true.

Also, with regards to miller’s recent loss to Frank Trigg, I must say that Trigg looked about as good as he ever has in that fight. miller had his back in the first and everyone is thinking RNC and out, but Trigg defended well, much too strong. Kicks to a downed opponent were also in play (I have no idea how or who sanctions Icon) which were very deterimental to miller.

I’m currently around 215 (cutting from 230) and he was at the academy a few days before the fight, he was bigger than me. The Trigg that showed up to that fight was the Trigg that ran through Charuto and Dennis Hallman, not the one who was befuddled by GSP and Carlos Condit(another quality fighter)

Anyways, I guess the point of this was, don’t point to his loss to Trigg as any indication of his skill level. I haven’t seen Trigg this motivated since he fought Hughes the second time(and lost) Now if only we could get him to give up commentating.

I’ve heard he might fight in the next Pride USA show. With Mauro gone to the Fight Network Pride USA is getting a whole new commentating crew so I think Twinkle “Oh my gosh” Toes is out.

It is looking more and more likely that Cro cop is going to the UFC. This would be huge for the organization, and really bad for Pride who is facing the possibility of losing both Fedor (to Bodog) and Crocop…I can’t believe the amount of transitions going on in mma over the past couple of weeks.

It seems like Mirko will go to the UFC. The more I think about it, the more I think it is a good thing. The UFC will finally have a great HW and an elite striker.

NOW the UFC’s commentators can actually use the phrase “world class striker” and have it be true.

I never did like the UFC saying they have the best talent when in reality they did not. Getting top international talent like Silva and Mirko has changed my mind a little.

MMA is one of the few sports not dominated by Americans(though mmaweekly tries hard to convince people otherwise, e.g. their MW rankings), so it is neccessary to get the top talent in the world to be able to call an organization the best in the world. The UFC is beginning to do this.

FEG(k-1) president Tanikawa stated that America is the biggest(potentially) market for mma. In the future Japan will most likely promote the lighter weight classes because they will not be able to compete with America for the top HW/LHW talent and that most top Japanese fighters fight between 154 and 183 pounds. Maybe Pride if they do not fold will concentrate on their lighter weight classes.
