Rampage knocks Chuck out!

This one is going to have some controversy but Chuck was dazed by a big right by rampage.

Big John did the right thing stopping the fight.
Whether chuck want’s to admit it, he was out.

Wow!

Damn! No one saw that coming. White brought Rampage to the UFC so that Liddell could beat him and avenge his loss… I don’t think that he ever imaged that Liddell would get knocked-out in the first round.

Maybe you didn’t see that coming, alot of people saw that coming because it happened 3 1/2 years ago. Just not that quick. Chuck got KTFO!
But since that fight Chuck got a lot better and Rampage has been up and down (who can forget those fights with Silva).

He didn’t look that impressive in his fight with Eastman either.

I figured that, if anything, Rampage would take Liddell down and would beat him in a ground and pound… not a straight-up first round knock-out (which is what Liddell was predicting that he would do to Rampage).

I heard someone was supposed to challenge the winner of the fight. Did that happen or was that just a rumor going around?

Hendo will fight fight Rampage next

You heard right. The man who is next in line for the Light Heavyweight belt is Dan Henderson.

hell yes, this is signs of good things to come, Fedor vs couture/gonzaga should be fun

Is Dan Henderson any good? Serious question.

Yes, I am pretty sure he holds the 185 and 205lb belts in Pride right now, and had two great fights vs Wanderli Silva, he beat him in the 2nd one.

If people want to get to know pride better just watch FSN on sunday nights they have a UFC unleashed type show where they show 3 or 4 previous fights. Some awesome matches.

Not an upset. This seems like the only fight thi year that went the way it was supposed to.
Yeah and Dan Henderson is good.

I stood up yelling in joy as the fight ended. In all honesty, Liddell looked a little nervous. His potbelly was bigger than normal and he almost looked a little shook. Rampage is the perfect matchup for someone like Liddell. Equally heavy hands with a better overall game and no fear.

And to anyone who thinks it got stopped early, the ref did Liddell a favor. His hands went limp after the first shot landed on the mat.

I work at a bar that was showing the fight:

I got dirty looks from the patrons when I clapped for Jackson when he came out, and as much as I like Chuck I had thought Rampage would ice the Iceman.

Chuck got knocked the fuck out.

The whole place was shocked.

It was a pretty good PPV, it was made even cooler by the fact that I got paid to watch the fight. So maybe I think it was better than it was.

Karo looked great. Much improved standup. It would be nice to see him break away from a gatekeeping role into a true contender, with another good showing like this it can be possible. Lots of good matchups at 170. I have a feeling that belt is gonna get passed around a bit more.

I dont think anyone will duplicate Hughes record of title defenses, and thats a good thing. I could give a shit about marketing personalities and ticket sales.

oh yeah chuck got ktfo. good stuff. does hendo get the very next title shot? what about rashaad? it seemed like they were gonna try to hype him up as well.

I think pound for pound he’s one of the best fighters ever, probably top 3. It’s great that America is finally getting to see of the best fighters in the world they weren’t aware of. Hendo is awesome, and even if he loses to Rampage he could easily drop to 185 and destroy the entire division. Of course, if Paulo Filho is there he might have some problems.

Liddell vs. Rampage in UFC 71

Great footwork by Rampage. He cut off all of Chuck’s angles and didn’t chase him.

This was the point that I set a new PR for vertical jump.

Why was this an upset? I thought the fight was too close to call. Did you think Jackson had no serious chance of winning?

I don’t mean to direct this at you personally, but given the fact that Jackson was not a serious underdog, “upset” is a misnomer.
I definitely thought Rampage could win, and even predicted he’d win. His style just matches up well with Chuck’s.

I’d call it an upset based on the odds, as they grew more in Liddell’s favor as the fight drew closer, and the fact that all the hype leading up to the PPV was more about Liddell avenging the loss, and not as much about Rampage maybe having Chuck’s number.

haha, I was incredibly excited for this fight, my heart was racing.

The funny thing was, on Friday I was getting ready to do single leg squats and work up to a max weight. And Then I started thinking, Rampage is going to have it tough, but he’s going to make it through, so you can too. So I started out at my top set and carried it through for all of them. I could barely walk afterwards. MMA is one of the sports I have first truly fallen in love with, something I might want to pass on to my kids when they’re old enough… its crazy.

Sometimes I worry about these fans that make up the bulk of viewers though, people who say they aren’t going to watch anymore after Chuck got knocked out… MMA has come so far and hope thats just talk. Plenty of fighters I’ve loved have been knocked out, but I keep coming back for it.

While the unpredictability is fun, ultimately, UFC needs guys to hold onto the belts for long reigns, or else, it’s going to be hard to create superstars, which translate to PPV buys.

Liddell did have a 2-year run, just that with all the other title winners losing this year, this wasn’t the time for him to lose. But, such is life.

Rampage can be a big star in the U.S. I just hope he successfully defends the belt a few times.

This isn’t a big upset at all. The line was only so wide because every teenager in America thinks Chuck is God.

Page beat his ass up the first time, and this time he did it ever harder to an older Chuck who hasn’t been pushed for a long time. Rampage has a superstar personality, he’ll do just fine for them.

I agree…I definitely thought Rampage had a good chance to win. Didn’t think it’d happen so early in Round 1, though.

Rampage does have that special quality that makes him marketable.

Still, I think UFC needs 2-3 fighters (doesn’t matter the weight class) to go on a good 3-4 year run like Liddell where they are unbeatable. That way when they lose it’s a much bigger deal than when guys lose every 2nd or 3rd fight.

For example: Matt Hughes’ loss to GSP was a big deal b/c up to that point, Hughes had been tearing through everyone and built up his reputation. Then, along comes GSP who dismantles him and GSP becomes a big star. Not that GSP wasn’t already a star, but the win just added to his star power. Unfortunately for GSP, the loss to Serra drops him down a bit and he’ll have to build himself back up.

That is retarded, what is up with everyones man love for Chuck anyway? Sure he delivers good knockouts but ask your average joe who their favorite guy in MMA is and 9 out of 10 will say Chuck (after they ask what MMA is and you say UFC)

A buddy of mine sent me this this morning. Both of us are huge Pride fans, becuase the unpredictablity of outcomes seems higher among elite fighters (just like chuck and rampage). “Mad props” to both. I personally would have liked to see the ass kicking go on for a few more seconds, but a fighters health and future are more important that his pride.
