Dynamite was horrible though. [/quote]
K-1 makes me puke. The fact that they have all the media and money and put on shit shows like that while Pride’s ship is sinking with above average cards is a damn shame for the MMA world.
To be fair, a lot of the appeal of K1 Dynamite was the K1 rules bouts featuring Musashi & Masato.
Say what you will about the UFC being pro-american, but they can’t even hold a candle to the Japanese organizations. The highest paid fighters in the history of Pride are Yoshida & Ogawa, and K1 is drawing monster crowds because of the presence of Musashi, Masato, Sakuraba, & Kid. The japanese have great respect for foreign fighters, but they PAY to see japanese fighters.

I do not know why they make those cards. I do know any Japanese people who enjoyed that show. I think with Pride being off free tv, K-1 has no competition and makes these ridiculous shows.
Masato and Kid are legitimate fighters and can compete witn worlds best. Musashi is slick but nobody can stand his fights. Sakuraba is done. Dynamite fans are like TUF fans, they do not know the sport.
Another thing to consider is in Japan is that New Years is a holiday. For most people they have off work from December 28th to the second week of January. Most people go back to their hometown to spend time with their family. Eat, drink and just take it easy. K-1 has a captive audince, for the majority of people are in their homes. Dynamite sucked but is FAR better than the garbage they call Japanese tv. NO doubt Pride would have destroyed that show if they had a tv deal.
So people who go to see Dynamite are regular people without much knowledge of the sport. Pride people actually know what’s going on. Pride still pulled in a good gate. There are many real fight fans in Japan who do not care about the nationality of fightrs. Yoshida and Ogawa were Pride’s attempts to get regular people involevd with the sport.
HOw about Shinya Aoki? He pulled off a great submission against a top light weight.
Melendez-Kawajiri was great also.
Gomi cleared up the light weight divisionalso with his destruction of Ishida. Gomi is the best lightweight in the world, actually best lightweight in mma history to this point.
I think UFC 66 was a success I enjoyed all of the fights, though the fights seemed to end in a similar but interesting manner of domination at key points.
I noticed with Tito he could throw a little with Chuck but when Chuck would lay it on, Tito as in the first fight has a deadly tendency of curling up and putting his hands in front of his head, this may work with larger gloves but with Chuck hitting you from all angles with only 4 ounce gloves…well.
I think Tito gave it his all and it was a great fight and he showed a bit of his true self during the post-fight in cage interview. I wonder if Tito practiced getting hit at a high rate during sparring, at that point he may as well throw with Chuck in that situation because if he doesn’t he will get hurt or most people for that matter.
I enjoyed all of the fights Thiago Alves is looking DAMN IMPRESSIVE, he fights with a smooth rhythm and quality. Forrest got caught by Jardine and I truly didn’t see that happening and I can understand his frustration at the end, I think Joe talks to the guys who win like he does the guys who lose and they aren’t always up for the up-beat replay.
It would be nice to see a rematch with Liddell and Jackson…but this seems so far down the pipeline.

Liddel doesn’t really have anybody else to fight besides Rampage. They have no choice but to make that fight soon. Since Rampage, Chuck has had seven fights. Of those seven four are are with Couture and Ortiz. Of those seven none were against a decent striker. Bustamante and Rampage are the best strikers Liddell has faced, and Liddell is 1-1 in those fights. Also consider Busta was/is a MW and that fight went the distance.
If they fight again I say Rampage should be the favorite, despite Rampage’s supposed decline. Rampage took what Liddel had standing and gave Liddell a beating.
I can’t tell if Liddell has improved. He hasn’t faced a top striker to show his improvement(regarding his stand-up) since his defeat to Rampage. Rampage knows he can stand with Liddell and knows he is physically stronger and has beat Chuck before. I think it will be interesting to see how Liddell reacts. No shoots to stuff, and a guy who can stand up with him.

Yeah he does cover his face well considering the size of his gloves but at some point you just HAVE to throw something back when someone his throwing a barrage of punches or you’re gonna go down. It was the defence of a man who was scared.

If I understand it correctly, Rampage has a 2 fight contract, so I’m guessing his second fight will likely be with Chuck sometime around summer/fall (Rampage is fighting early Feb.).
I hope Rampage is still at his best so we’ll have a great fight to watch.
My question would be, does being KO’d like Rampage was by Wandy make you more prone to KO’s latter? If so this may be a problem for Rampage.

It may not be the best defence, but if you watch it again, he was mainly covering his left eye which was opening up since Chuck was zeroing-in on the cut.

I do not think it would make one prone to being knocked out unless Rampage suffered a concussion or brain damage.

The only thing that sucked about that was hearing Frank Trigg keep calling it a “weird looking triangle”.

It seems like Trigg’s commentary is regressing somewhat…I hate hearing him talk about himself, its good to have experience in the sport but hearing him talk about himself is painful. The new guy has potential if they could just pair him up with a knowledgeable guy. Gilbert Melendez pulled off one of the fastest and technically sound takedowns I’ve ever seen in MMA, and there wasn’t even a mention of it, brought me right up out of my seat and the former Olympic hopeful had nothing to say about it, weak
In the UFC, Goldberg has got to go. I was watching an old boxing match and the commentators were spectacular…why can’t MMA get some of that?

Yeah Trigg’s commentary was pretty bad. I can’t remember specific instances, apart from the gogoplata boob, but i remember shaking my head quite a lot.
