I am impressed by BJ’s round 1 though. That was a different gameplan and it was executed well. Round 3 though was vintage fitch and why I don’t think it’s fair to call him lay and pray. He continuously throws punches and tries to hurt his opponent. He was throwing for about 4min straight. Clay Guida- LnP, not Fitch. “Grinding,” yes but LnP no. Not that anyone here specifically said that but I’ve heard it a lot when refering to Fitch.
In the end I thought it was going to be fitch by majority decision, but this result is not outlandish.
I was impressed by both fighters. For BJ, he is not used to fighting like that…it showed, as throwing wrestling in the mix takes its toll. He should consider lifting a few weights, as well.

I say penn round one ten ten round two and fitch for the third.
Nice work fitch now zeb admit it was more comoetitive then you thought.
Yeah, as I said he really came after him in the first round. I give him plenty of credit for that and changing his game plan as well. But I feel he lost the second round as Fitch did more damage. And of course the third round was a slaughter. But a really good fight.

Penn said it best, “the God’s smiled on me tonight and gave me a draw.” But I do respect his honesty and how he came out after Fitch in the first round. But, Fitch won that fight and I think we all know it.
Does being wring all the time ever get old?
Penn Rd 1 and 2 Fitch 3
I’ll give Fitch round 3 10-8
Which is a DRAW
bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
Look, no one is wrign all the time. In fact, I don’t even know what that means.

In a five round fight it would be fitch by UD, in a 3 round fight, it all depends on how motivated bj is. I can see it going either way.
Penn fans love this line as if Penn is better than everyone else and all that determines the outcome is if Penn is motivated.
It’s sad that such an amazing fighter’s motivation is always in doubt. Very few fighters do we have to question their motivation.
Fitch/Edgar/GSP/probably some other fighters out there will beat Penn regardless of his motivation.
So basically exactly what i said happened. Fitch started taking over as the fight wore on (which is why i said he would take a 5 rounder) but since it was a 3 rounder it was extremely close, as i said it would be.
Had nothing to do with whether i was a BJ fan or not

I wasn’t commenting on your prediction. Which was right, good call. I was commenting on the “it all depends on how motivated BJ is” I hate that line for the reasons above. The outcome of tonight’s fight had nothing to do with BJ’s motivation. He had success early on because he had a great gameplan and he was able to execute. Even in the post fight Fitch said he was thrown off by BJ’s td attempts. Did this all depend on BJ’s motivation?
Ok i agree with you there. When i made that statement, i wasnt making it as a penn fan, i really thought if BJ came in firing on all cylinders he would probably catch fitch with a big combo at some point but even a “motivated” looking BJ had a tremendously hard time with fitch. This is why ive been saying all main events should be 5 round fights. Fitch was clearly the better WW, even though it went to a draw. How many people can let BJ take their backs twice in a fight and survive? On top of that, Fitch landed several times more shots when he got top position than BJ. Would have loved to see how he would have handled him in rounds 4 and 5. Furthermore, if GSP doesnt move up after Shields win, ive been saying for a while that Fitch needs a rematch. The guy is GSPs biggest threat if he keeps his composure unlike in the first fight.
yeah, i think you can make the argument for a fitch decision…
It’s called an extremely lopsided third round. That fight could have gone 70 rounds of fitch playing patty cake on BJ’s face. Were any of those strikes more significant than BJ having back mount and threatening with rnc’s Nope. Fitch also scored 3 takedowns in the third. So like I said earlier a draw imo, with Fitch getting a 10-8 third round. I really don’t see how rd 2 was a draw or a Fitch round.
Regardless the decision, its quite obvious fitch would have continued to play “patty cake” on BJ’s face, and though he wasnt rocking him with anything in the third round, you can bet that many strikes, even lightly to the head doesnt feel good. And as BJ continued to get wore down in rounds 4 and 5 his defense would become even worse and you can bet Fitch would start to land some big shots. It really wouldnt be unrealistic to say we could have seen a TKO in the 5th the way things were beginning to go for Fitch, and Fitch is one of those guys who only gets better as the fight goes on. So no, BJ could not take 70 rounds of “patty cake” with Fitch.

I was more impressed with his ground game. His stand up seems awkward in a way that allows him to get openings he can capitalize on. I’m very interested to see who he fights next. Condit?
For those of you who are still interested in the Fitch/Penn fight. Here is an interesting breaddown of the three rounder according to punches, grappling etc.
