U.S. Ambassador to Libya Killed

^

There’s a lot of nations whose governments censor speech and media. They immediately assumed the US does that too or should do that and took the lack of censorship as an endorsement of the film.

I honestly sometimes think that some places just aren’t ready for democracy. But then again, the argument could be made that after the American constitution made and government set up there were still some really backwards ideas by modern standards.

No one is ready for democracy. Democracy is what happens when freedom is destroyed by hive mind, because the original government went to shit.

Democracy is awful.

yes I’m serious, and no, America is not a democracy, thank Christ.

That clears up the distinction between constitutional republic and democracy for me.

Reports surfacing that Marines in Cairo Embassy were not permitted live ammo:

Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson “did not permit U.S. Marine guards to carry live ammunition,” according to multiple reports on U.S. Marine Corps blogs spotted by Nightwatch. “She neutralized any U.S. military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy.”

Time magazine’s Battleland blog also reported Thursday that “senior U.S. officials late Wednesday declined to discuss in detail the security at either Cairo or Benghazi, so answers may be slow in coming.”

“She did not defend U.S. sovereign territory and betrayed her oath of office,” the report states. “She neutered the Marines posted to defend the embassy, trusting the Egyptians over the Marines.”

…these reports indicate that the Obama administration was relying on Egypt’s new Muslim Brotherhood-backed government to ensure American security

As a soldier, it looked pretty professional, to me.

They weren’t using the seemingly-standard-issue RPGs that are all over the sand box.

They used high-dollar, high-pentration, anti-tank or breaching rockets — and they didn’t fucking kill themsleves using them. Not easy.

They followed a protocol, came in an organized fashion, with cover, flash-bang grenades first, etc.

In short, I am betting they were at least former Libyian Special Forces or the equivalent.
I think it’s quite likely Libyan special forces may have been joined up with AQ. But my understanding is that AQ already has that capability and includes former Pakistani special forces amongst their ranks. Also, that AQ themselves are in a sense special forces in that they act as force multipliers by going into a country and training/leading local Islamists.

Absolutely. We’d all be driving tiny eco-cars now and getting our electricity from perpetual motion machines, solar panels and wind turbines. Oil would be ‘irrelevant’ if we’d had the sense to invest in neo-Ludditism 40 years ago. /sarcasm

They aren’t.

Idiots, and cultures comprised chiefly of idiots, deserve a dictatorship.

Case in point: Iraq. There is no way that country’s democratic government will survive.
we are in heavily agreement with this.

I was discussing this with my sister yesterday,

Egyptians are dumb. End of. Follow the crowd and just look for any excuse for a fight.

All these people at the embassy will have no idea why they are they. They are just there because thats what everyone else is doing. Its a big circle or idiocy.

Well that’s much the disadvantage of democrazy. Follow what sounds best / what someone else is doing and have no clue if it makes any sense in the long run.

Especially when people still have a strong relationship to their religion and live by principles and dogmas that were made thousand of years ago.

I think education would solve a lot of problems. People have been killed because some moron made some very stuipid video that noone should have cared about in the first place.

She gets it!

“Obama has no legal recourse but our president seems to be acquiescing to Morsi’s request by trying to silence the movie-maker through verbal intimidation, including a call from Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Dempsey who asked Pastor Terry Jones to withdraw his support for the film. Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the FBI was dispatched to Hollywood to uncover the identity of the filmmaker. (Don’t they have real terrorists to catch? I’ll be looking for the administration’s condemnations next for the selling of the DVD of “The Da Vinci Code,” the blockbuster American movie that claims Jesus had sex with Mary Magdalene.)”

That’s pathetic.

Just for the record? I won’t be killing anybody over this - YouTube

This had nuthin to do with a frickin video. That was the excuse to whoop it up on 911.

Is anyone planning on watching the movie? They’re showing it here

Alright Squating_Bear my good buddy. You’re up. Here’s your chance to have a real impact. As a Muslim. Tell us what you think about this. I hold this young man in high regard folks and I alerted him privately a couple weeks ago that I would eventually do something like this. No better opportunity.

Just tell the Libyans that they have 48 hours to hand over the perpetrators to the U.S (you know they know exactly who they are, some were interviewed by Al Jazeera) …or special forces will eliminate all of them, as long as it takes.

Or we could just apologize for being American and act like this was all our fault.

Right after 9-11, this is amazingly embarrassing.
I agree with regard to mounting a fierce and immediate response, but the apology thing has been misconstrued for political purpose.

The statements–which were less apologetic than a simple and descent statement of this country’s disdain for mocking and insult–were issued before any attack had taken place.

Romney jumped on this, which I think was a huge mistake, but every other top Republican statement has declined to criticize the politics of it all, opting instead to talk about unity, etc.
So saying sorry for giving people the right to free speech is okay?
Look, no one said sorry. If you can find a sorry somewhere, please produce it. A statement of fact was issued. I can–and should–condemn someone’s opinion while affirming with the utmost conviction that he should and always will have the right to express it.

This is one of those moments that are especially conducive to manufactured outrage.
Radical Islam has been killing people for using free speech forever.

From Salman Rushdie to the cartoons by the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten to the Van Gogh ASSASSINATION.

And these people are running the show over there.

Maybe ‘Radical’ Islam has been killing people for using freedom speech,

America kills people for money.
