I was wondering what your opinions are on the different types of whey protein. For instance I think using hydrolyzed whey protein post workout has helped with my post workout recovery, but I’ve been debating whether or not it’s worth paying twice as much per pound for hydro whey. Anytime in the day other than post workout I use a mixture of regular whey concentrate and casein. So what’s your opinion?
That’s what I do, too. Hydro whey after workouts, protein blend any other time. I think the effectiveness of the hydro whey in comparison to other types justifies the cost, for me at least. I used whey iso + Gatorade after workouts for about a year before using hydro. It worked but not nearly as well.
Thanks for the reply. Here’s another protein related question. Are powdered egg protein and milk isolate absorbed quickly or slowly. I know neither is absorbed as fast as whey and I’m guessing neither is as slow as casein but I was wondering where they fall on the protein spectrum… Thanks, any answers to this or the original question are appreciated.
Casein digests slowly because it forms into a pasty curd in your stomach (nice imagery, huh?) . Egg white or milk iso will probably digest a little slower than whey protein concentrate, but compared to how slow casein digests I’d say it’s pretty negligible. The main reason for ingesting several different types of protein is to round out the amino acid profile; casein just has the added advantage of slow digestion.
