Type of Hypertrophy Produced by 20 Rep

I did 220 for 35 on Sunday to show some people it is not that hard. I weigh like 170. I only stopped because I was sweating and it was getting in my eyes. And I was getting thirsty.

Do I care about sarcomeres and neural adaptations? Do I even care about maximal hypertrophy?
No, I just like to squat.

I reckon no squat you do will ever be bad, and all will be good.

Next time I will do 50.[/quote]

Dude you are so bad ass.

20 rep squats are not ideal for building 1RM strength, actually if you are an experienced lifter, and you stick to 20 reps squats for a while, you might experience that the 1RM stalls or decreases.

It is not exactly rocket science. And if you care about questions like the ones you asked, then you need to squat more and harder, so that you have no more energy left to ask such questions.

Just squat and shut up.

Dont do it unless you do a strength endurance sport! Its in the relm of bodybuilding hypertrophy like you said sarcoplasmic which is an increase in cell size not strength! Also it will hit your slow twitch fibres to a certain extent and will increase the blood supply to your muscle fibres and they may start to convert!

Your much better off with a phase of functional hypertrophy in the relm of 6-8 reps followed by a maximum strength phase!
