Twenty by 40 by 2020 - Journey Back to Where I Was 20 Years Ago

Good day today. 14 hour work day today and a 6 am start today and just finished at 9 PM but got a workout in.

  1. Aerdyne - 5 mins
  2. 531+ squat
A - triples to warm up at 45-135-185-225-255 then 285-315-345x6
  3. Fat guy rows - shoulder not up for pull-ups so worked in 50 reps between squat sets.
  4. Shot put - about 10 throws. Good distance.
  5. 48 burpees

Pleased with today. Think I’m good for 400 on squat right now. Bar speed good and probably good for 8 reps if I needed to. Knee feeling good.

Enjoying your log especially since you and I are pretty close to the same height and weight. I’m 6’4" 235 lbs.

I’m certainly not a CEO of a company but I work some pretty long hours at an engineering firm through the week as well as balancing a family at home. Do what you have to do to get training done when you can.

I’m a big fan of balancing conditioning and strength as well. I’m more drawn to the kettlebell side of things since it’s a 2 for 1 when it comes to S&C. Doing that many burpees before breakfast in the AM is impressive. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks! Yeah at 6’2" 220-228 (I only weigh myself occasionally). I’d like to be leaner, but like walking around over 220. And don’t like dieting, lol.

I’m a fan of Kettlebell as well, and keep a 100# bell in the office for days when I know I absolutely won’t get any workouts in - I’ll close the door, take my shirt off and hit 30-50 swings and RDLs. Or on a weekend that I feel like not leaving the house, 300-500 swings with a 55# bell is a nice efficient workout.

I was trying to decide between kettlebells, burpees, and rowing every morning first thing to get a little extra work in. Decided on burpees because I like them the least, and suck more at them than swings or rowing, and also because I can do them anywhere I go. Going to keep adding a rep per day until, not sure… Would be cool to be up over 100 every morning.

Edit - COULD be a lot leaner! Not Good be a lot leaner.

Chuckled at this because I keep a 55# Bell in my office and have just enough room to do swings and get ups for a lighter Simple & Sinister workout. I keep a second 55 at home as well as an 80 and will have a 106 as of Thursday.

I agree that dieting and burpees suck!!! I’ve been as heavy as 300 pounds (late 2010) and light as 190 (2012) and somewhere between 220-240 I feel the best. As long as I can move well and not look like a tub of lard again, I’m happy!

I’m a big fan of DB snatches as a movement for folks beginning to learn OLs, and also if you are somewhere without barbells and bumpers. A 100 DB with one arm feels about like 150-160 with a barbell. It also moves faster, so for athletes, is a nice, safe movement to employ during competitive season to maintain strength, but move further down the velocity spectrum. Still nowhere near the meters/sec speed of jumping or running or Med Balls - but a nice alternative.

Now IPA at airport on way to Vegas. Wife is a big Celine Dion fan and taking her to a show. I am not but love black jack and beer. Should be fun!

Nice workout! Have fun in Vegas!

Thanks and will do!

No gambling yet.

Up late but didn’t get after it too hard, so felt good in the morning after a good 8+ hours sleep.

  1. General mobility and jog warmup
  2. Squats - 10x4 up to 355 - working sets at 275-295-315-335-355 - these were in a smith machine so had bar loaded at 20# more.
  3. Hang Power cleans 10x3 at 135-245 - working sets at 185-205-225-225-245
  4. Chipper- 51 reps each of burpees and curls

PM - tired and slow

  1. Snatch 531 145-165-185 (1) slow and hip hurting not warm
  2. Ring rows - 50 reps
  3. Clean - 185 8x1; 15 On the minute at 215-235
  4. Aerdyne - 10 mins

Was going to do deadlift 531 day today but my speed on snatch told me not to push it so clean technique instead

AM 54 burpees

Had a minor seizure this afternoon, so day off from gym, unfortunately.

And it twisted my shoulder worse than I thought - so no burpees for today at least. Will try to do squats in the pm.

Hope you’re alright…

Thanks. Am ok - these happen every few months. This one rattled my shoulder pretty loose. Not sure I’m going to be doing anything with cleans or snatches or deads for awhile. Perhaps just squats and light weight biceps and triceps.
