Today I switched to an alternating grip when I do deadlifts. After my last set my index finger on my right hand, which was the hand facing out, started to tingle and feel semi-numb. The base of the finger on the palm side kind of hurt, like I put too much pressure on it. Does anyone know what I might have done?
It’s been about a half hour and it’s mostly subsided, but I’d like to not repeat the same mistake next time I lift.
You lifted heavy weight in a way you not used to and Im guessing werent grabbing that bar like you OWN the damn thing as hard as you can. Prob messed with a nerve a bit or something.
Really like above stated kind of picking on minutia as far as training injury etc goes. If its reoccuring or painful etc maybe then something to think about but well we have to put up with some stuff.
Well hell, I didn’t want to sound girly. Just not used to parts of my body going numb outside of the occasional foot falling asleep. If you guys say it’s no deal though, then that’s that.
You know problems like this could almost use their own permanent thread (like Vroom’s beginner threads). It could cover things that hurt but you shouldn’t worry about (tingling finger, DOMS, sore wrist from trying to enhance flexibility, callouses, and the occassional bloody shin), a couple injury prevention articles, and an explanation of Dave Tate’s hurt>injured>fucked scale…
