TUF: Brock v. JDS

this season is turning out weird. seems like most of the fighters are decent all-around, but few have shown to be truly dominant. i wonder if that’s gamesmanship on their part…

not sure with what’s going on with JDS and Lew…i’ve read some articles by Lew, and it seems like JDS is bothered by Lew taking his limelight, prolly due to JDS’s limited English. IMO it looks like Lew is trying to do the right thing in training.

first fight: JDS’s guy came out waayyy to hard…he almost overwhelmed Brock’s guy Tony at first, but definately “blew his wad.” Tony had a good jab, and his footwork and head movement looks decent. the upkick KO was damn impressive. btw, i could not understand JDS or his coaches. prolly a bad call getting rid of Lew, like they said…

second fight: JDS’s guy had a good double and outside leg trip…he used his striking to transition to grappling well. both guys were actively looking for submissions as well, which is rare in this season. the triangle was nice, but it seemed like Brock’s guy tapped fast…apparently it was sunk tight.

wild card…sucks for the fella that was picked but on medical suspension. Javier vs Chcuk should be a good fight.

it’s a weird dynamic between JDS and Brock, as DFW pointed out. kinda nice not to see as much drama as in previous season, though…[/quote]
You’re reading the wrong articles, all the fighters hate lew and are happy he’s gone.

I haven’t watched the season besides reading some articles, but judging from Lew interviews it was the opposite.

Great, now they will like perfect brazilians who have Dorea in their corner, they think it’s olympic boxing and get knocked down several times. and throw like a rag-doll by wrestlers.

i find it intersting that this season has the lowest ratings for quite some time, and has 5 minutes of friggen ads every 10 minutes…

anyhow, Len was kinda whiny, but in reailty, he’s got notihg else to do but be pissed. most those guys don’t seem to mind about not fighting again…

Chuck did really well in his fight. at first i thought he was a southpaw, until i realized it was Javier. he looked really comfortable fighting a lefty, which is rare… i tire of Javier’s flashy style. well, i guess when he gets hit, he makes a show of it, and he waves his arms around like he’s gonna fight a bunch. he looked really bad, and then got caught in a friggin D’arce choke…i’m impressed Chuck got it, but that is not generally a quick choke.

the quarterfinals should be good, as it seems like this season has weeded out the guys that are gonna be entertaining and want to fight vs. the guys that didn’t realize how hard it was gonna be (or so i hope!)

Is it worth watching? i never care to watch any of these, I just watched 1st and 2nd to accompany Forrest and Rashad growth through their careers.

This show has done nothing but go down hill since its inception. If you want to tune in and watch tattooed idiots fighting over one menial topic after another while living in the same house well then this is the show for you mister. Otherwise, skip it and just do what I do. Hit the Internet and watch the fight.

I thought the last season was pretty good. Brookins, Phan, MJ, McKenzie.

Exactly my point. But if you’re 18 years old that stuff is pretty darn cool.

ZEB,

First you squash my aspirations of badassness by telling me it is not about how much tapout/affliction clothing I can fit on my body, now you are telling me there are better things than TUF. Do you wake up every day just to crush the dreams of others?

i think this show, like many other shows that have been on for a while, can really be hit or miss. this season’s weird so far, while not having much drama (between coaches or fighters), also doesn’t have that many stand-out fighters.

i just watched last night’s episode…JDS’s 1st guy looked great. i think Brock’s guy defended okay, but he had a well-rounded world class wrestler on his back.

the 2nd fight blew…i think Cope won, more or less, due to Shamar’s lack of success. Shamar is just not a good MMA fighter at this point…his striking needs a lot of work (mainly due to range, etc), and the single leg is not that effective as a takedown in MMA. if works okay for him to push a guy against the cage, but all he manages to do is lean on the guy and get punched. Cope looked okay, used a good game plan. he could’ve punched a little more from outside, but he managed to fight off a decorated wrestler very well, and still look like he had way more energy.

well, tonight’s fights made the season worth it…

1st fight: Chuck (Brock’s guy) destroyed JDS’s guy…i think the score should’ve been 20-17. Chuck had an “on” night, and threw power every time. JDS’s guy looked very unprepared, and got tired really fast as well.

2nd fight: Tony looked great…ran right through JDS’s guy. stoppage was a little quick, but i don’t see it lasting 5 more seconds.

Brock has been coaching his ass off on these guys, and his guys were performing really well.

also, this episode has the obligatory drunk fight…thanks God for FF…

which episode was it? i’ll watch it 10? 9?

just got done with tonight’s episode…

FF’d through all the BS.

Cope v Ramsey started off pretty even…Chris has no real offense, though. Ramsey does a good job of (wildly) using his hands to close the distance. even he got tired working on Cope, but had a good stoppage.

Chuck v Tony was a massacre…i have no idea how that was 3 rds. Tony landed 2x as many kicks, and 3x as many punches, with a lot more power. Tony is an example of what an MMA fighter’s standup should be…great head movement and footwork, stayed in the pocket, throws crisp ALL THE TIME… he broke Chcuk in the 1st. my only critque of Tony would be to double-up on the jab…

Tony v Ramsey should be a great fight in the finale. definately the best 2 guys from this season, IMO…

EDIT: i just realized that the fights were scheduled for 3 rounds, hence the 3rd round…i’m an idiot.

that tony vs chuck is the only fight i’m interest in seeing from that TUF.

thank god its over.

watched the Finale…

Cope v. Chuck was a good fight. Cope really worked the footwork and angles… punching got a little predictable, but clearly won the decision.

Kingsbury v Maldanado was a bad call…i thought the decision should have gone the other way. Fabio destroyed Kingsbury’s midsection, and was prolly 20lbs light, too. maybe he can make the cut to 185…

Guida v Pettis as a typical Guida fight. i like to watch him, he’s got a ton of heart and energy, but he really doesn’t do anything new. Pettis got pretty close to the armbar, and had a decent showing. Guida’s a tough guy to fight, but i think both guys need to go back to work on their weaknesses for the move up…

Ferguson ran through Ramsy…started off good, but ended how i expected.

Shame Maldonado caught Pneumonia a week before the fight, she shouldn’t have let Kingsbury up while he was on top.

He is a entertaining fighter, i know him personally since his fights from Brazil, it’s a shame he decided to stand and bang instead of going for the win, confidence is a good thing, too much confidence not so much. Kingsbury used his Muay Thai effectively.
