Try to Lower T Levels to get On TRT?

I made a decision to research and read this forum until my yearly physical at the end of the year before starting TRT with or without my docters assistance. obviously I want to do it with him( I have good insurance that would pay for presriptions , blood work etc) and I don’t want t
o have to go on the internet looking for testosterone.
I posted on another thread that I started testing my T levels 5 years ago.(I’m 55 now) They’ve gone from 550 to 360 last time.
Heres my problem, I’ve kinda casually asked my doctor if he’d be willing to do this with me next year. He agreed- if I was out of range. The Quest lower range is 242.
I do everything I can now to stay healthy and keep my level as “high” as it is.
Do you think it would be wise , starting a month out from my blood test to do everything I can to LOWER my test.

I wouldn’t do it, but people have:

Your testosterone can fluctuate dramatically, but it really depends on your symptoms and the openness to the Dr to properly treat based upon symptoms. It may not be your testosterone, but rather adrenal, thyroid or estrodial, or SHBG that may be making it un useable to the body.
Do not lower you test that is a ass backwards way. Find a good Dr I have several referals that would be willing to help you …

My levels are not fluctuating. There has been a slow, steady decline since I started monitering them at the age of 50. I don’t understand why I should look elsewhere for the problem(thyroid, adrenals etc.) I’m 55 not 25. Isn,t this a classic case of age related low T?

I agree, this really looks like age related decline and TRT is needed. Hardasnails wants you to address other imbalances and health issues. That should be done anyways to improve your general well being and that will also allow TRT to be more effective.

If you could induce HPTA ‘collapse’ you would feel even worse. What are your FT levels? Low FT can qualify one for TRT. Note that TT is also a measure of how much SHBG you have and that is somewhat controlled by estrogen levels.

Your doc wants to treat your lab numbers, not your symptoms. Write down your symptoms. You may need to find a new doc. If you convince this doc to start TRT, what kind of disaster will that be? You need T+AI+hCG.

Get a good male panel done, out of pocket if need be, from lef.org or elsewhere.

No one is saying don’t fix your T issue. What I think hardasnails was saying is that you should look at other areas in addition to testosterone because more than likely if you have a problem in one area, you have a pretty good chance of having other imbalances.

If you fix your T, you could feel pretty good (maybe going from 25% potential to 50% potential), but what if you also discovered and fixed other associated problems (i.e. - thyroid, vitamin D, ferritin, estradiol, etc.) and you could get up to 75%. Why would you want to settle for 50%? Yeah, you are feeling twice as good as you did just on Testosterone, but why not make sure and have your other ‘systems’ checked out (and hopefully fixed) at the same time?

Thanks for replys.

KSman, Last year my Free T was61 so I,m still in range there(35-155)

I’ve never checked my estrodiol by blood test but I did a saliva test recently and even that was low. I know you keep saying you gotta do T+ AI+hcg but if my e is so low maybe I don’t have to do the AI because as you say e follows t and maybe just the test would raise the e to the proper level.

Where are you located may be we could help find you a good dr in your area…

Sorry, I’ve been away. I’m in Central Florida, I would appreciate any help in finding a good c
ompetent Doctor. Daytona Beach area.

See the finding a doc sticky.

KSman, I appreciate all the info I’ve gotten from this forum but I’m not computer savy enough to follow that sticky on how to find a doctor. Or maybe it’s Brain fog from low T. Seriously I would appreciate it if anyone knows a doctor in my area.
