Trump: The Second Year

Yeah, that was awesome. And for once, Trump did the smart thing and let someone else have the last word in a Twitter beef. (So far as I know, that is.)

This is a pretty good one.

Golden…

Love it! Go Duckworth!

Anybody wanna bet how long until Trump’s insecure inner narcissist forces him to respond? When he does, I wonder what nickname he’ll come up with for her. I’m afraid to speculate…

Knowing him, he’ll probably insult her for losing her legs in the war.

That is exactly the thought I had. I envisioned him referring to her as ‘Stumpy Tammy.’

I loled.

Even Trump can’t take pot shots at a family legacy servicewoman who lost her legs in the ME… Right?

Don’t summon that voodoo, for God’s sake!

Don’t ask me, I would have thought POWs were off limits…

Would T. Roosevelt be a Democrat today?

IIRC, @thunderbolt23 read the trilogy on him. Thoughts TB?

I can hear him now: ‘She’s not a war hero. She’s a war hero because she had her legs blown off. I like people that didn’t have their legs blown off, I hate to tell ya.’

Maybe by default, but then only nominally. He definitely wouldn’t be a Republican, I don’t think - TR wasn’t an enemy of business, but he wasn’t in the anti-government, pro-feudalism camp that is now the GOP (and the litmus test for the party, too). His views on conservation wouldn’t also jibe.

That said, I don’t think he’d be welcome in the Democratic Party. He was an opponent of identity politics ("There are no hyphenated Americans, " etc.) and preached too much rugged individualism for the current party. Plus, he was a hunter that owned and used guns - a no-no for the current party mandarins.

I think TR would fall into the camp of a lot of modern Americans (including myself) - having a mix of views that don’t fall neatly into line with a party platform, and not satisfied with either party, but..any maybe more importantly…not someone either party is actively trying to attract. Which is absolutely insane.

Independents, moderates, centrists, non-doctrinaire liberals and conservatives (think, a conventional liberal who supports 2A rights, or a conservative who advocates for stronger environmental protection*) - the parties are saying “go be yourself, by yourself” to them/us.

I think TR would probably be politically homeless were he alive today.

*A conservative who actually wants to conserve something, like forests??? Inconceivable!!!

Bull Moose all the way! Bad Ass enough to transcend politics and take care of business.

You’ll find groups like Ducks Unlimited and NRA members support conservation with a great deal of money.

I doubt those same groups support carbon taxes, mandatory ethanol content, and green energy subsidies for panels and Teslas. So it’s a mixed bag.

DU, for sure - I would be skeptical of the NRA for that. Maybe 20 years ago, but now the NRA and its supporters are a different makeup.

Maybe not, but they might (and do) support keeping public lands in tact and not selling out to commercial interests, stronger regs to prevent pollution, and advancement of clean energy through some level of public funding - which, according to the modern version of the GOP, makes them amount to socialists and RINOs.
