Trump: The Second Year

You are entitled to your feelings. I just don’t figure it to be that big a deal.
Like I said LBJ cussed like a sailor in meetings too.
He lovingly referred to the Civil Rights Act as the ‘nigger bill’ in not-so-private areas with his southern constituency. To his credit he was a champion of civil rights and later grew to hate the very word he used to help sway his southern constituents to vote for it. Precisely because, they, the southern constituents, used it with impunity long after the bill passed.
But, there was no twitter then and like this, it’s hearsay. You got your evening news for 30 minutes on weeknights and the paper. You were not bombarded with stories constantly, 24/7.

Sometimes you have just got to shut off the information vomit from the media. It will drive you nuts if you let it. At least one day a week, I pay no attention to any news, unless something major is happening.

As I’ve said previously, the issue is not the profanity per se.

Um, not they won’t. If you look at the statistics of Norwegian/US migration you’d see that more people immigrate to Norway from the US than vice versa. But the numbers are laughable as the numbers are around 1000 and 1600 respectively per year.

So unless you (not you per se) think that 3 Norwegians per day (even including Danes and Icelanders wouldn’t help the numbers much) is not enough migrants for the needs of the US economy you have to rely on people from shithole countries to make up the shortfall.

Damn Norwegians… I wanna were wooden shoes too. Or is that Sweden? Hell, all I know is that it’s cold.

With 330 million people and 20-25% of the world’s national product, why exactly are we so dependent on immigration for our economy?

Because Americans are entitled AF and “just won’t do” a lot of jobs. It’s beneath them. Nearly every industry heavy with Central/South American illegal immigrants is something akin to hospitality/cleaning/manual labor/etc.

On the legal side, it’s because supply and demand. All people’s bullshit about quotas and shit aside, if all these yuppie companies hiring people from all over the planet weren’t doing something right need to check their financial statements. Opening your talent pool to choose from to the entire planet just makes sense.

News update Trump says more racist shit & dr confirms hes fat. Hes fat & racist… Both were obvious why do we even need to discuss this. In other news McDonalds isnt good for you.

Is this really accurate? Like 58% of employees in the Hospitality and Leisure Industry are white.

Why does the number of white people have an impact on the allocation of illegals?

Edit: and this one is just illegal immigrants vs legal immigrants I believe
Edit2: ehhhh may take that back. The wording on this is throwing me off

I’m sorry, I should have cut the quote. You said:

Works in the leisure and hospitality industry mirror US demographics pretty closely (58% white workers V. like 61% white only population).

I’m more or less wondering if your sentiment is accurate because it is often repeated.

That doesn’t surprise me. I’m just curious if that is really a reflection on American’s attitude towards doing certain jobs (ie being beneath them).

Just basic logic to me. If given an equal worker that provides roughly the same value/efficiency to the company (illegal vs non illegal) there’s no incentive to hire an illegal.

Guess an exception would be if the owner/hiring person has a soft spot for illegals?

I agree that given all things being equal there would be no incentive to hire an illegal, but I still don’t see how that translates to Americans thinking work, such as hospitality work, is beneath them? Especially considering the vast majority of the employees in this example are not even Hispanic let alone illegal.

Because this country was built on free and cheap labor. First with slavery and when that was abolished they switched to cheap immigrant labor. The people in power will never really do anything about undocumented immigrants until they find a new source of cheap labor.

I don’t think this is accurate either. Even if there are 20M illegal workers in the country (that is on the high end of estimates I’ve seen for the total number of illegals here not just workers) that only represents about 13% of workers. That means 87% of workers are something other than illegal laborers.

That’s pretty significant.

If anything, we’ve switched to cheap outsourced labor.

Very good point.

Imo if they were willing to provide the same value/efficiency as an illegal without it being “beneath them” (in a grand sense) the illegal job industry wouldn’t exist. It’s not like we’re running an unemployment of 0% over here.

I’m sorry, but I don’t really understand what this means. Maybe I’m being obtuse. Do you mean the employers think the jobs are beneath legal American’s?

Employers benefit from hiring illegals. It saves them money and there really aren’t any repercussions and it’s not just wages. It’s payroll taxes, benefits, etc…

But, most hospitality workers are not illegal. It’s like 75% are white or black or Asian. So I just don’t really get this stigma that American’s won’t work these jobs because they’re beneath them. Legal American’s work them in high numbers.

You do know what minimum wage means right? The company is basically saying “we’d pay you less, but we aren’t allowed to.”

On top of that the FICA, FUTA, SS, Medicare, unemployment and benefits (altogether known as “Fringes”) are roughly 60% of an employee’s gross wages depending on the industry.

So I can pay an illegal $10/hour for 60% cheaper than I can pay a legal worker $10/hour. There’s almost never any repercussions on the employers who do that.
