Personally I don’t think I could have a problem with him telling white supremacists to slaughter them as I think actions matter not words and I also don’t know his heart.
Of course just like with his doctors recommendations he should certainly receive no blame if someone takes him seriously anyways.
That is stupid. If you don’t recognize this as a dog whistle to his sizable white supremacist base, you are a fool and a racist. Words matter just like actions, but we mustn’t limit our criticisms to words and actions alone; no, we must also criticize and be hurt by our interpretations of unsaid words.
Honestly, I think it has to do more with schools/the system wanting to indoctrinate kids into thinking that America was great, blemish free, etc. I feel that was true when I was in school, whereas now they are taught the opposite.
Well, to be fair, we have a TON of evidence for this…like every time he speaks…
This is what I’m going with as well, per Occam’s razor. But now that it’s all out in the air, Californiagrown’s post on the best play per Trump is about as accurate as I could think of. Only problem is he won’t avoid mentioning the exact things he needs to avoid mentioning…
Yeah, I had actually never heard of the massacre until this thread. Sadly, since I went to good schools and consider myself informed.
Conservatives sure as hell didn’t feel that way during the years President Obama was in office.
Case it point? (And this is just one of really not that many compared to Trump. President Obama tended to think before he spoke, but not always. He is human.)
Think of all the crap Trump says and tweets…and this one statement made Conservatives go ape-shit crazy: “…If I had a son; he would look like Trayvon Martin…”
By the Conservative reaction you would have thought President Obama was raping white women in the White House.
And with Trump? Either “I don’t see any policy that’s the result of what he said” or some other enabling excuse for his crap like “His rally in Tulsa and the date is because that was the date his calendar was open” or “White Supremacist flock to him because of his tax Policy” .
It can sometimes really be infuriating, which is why I will continue to call out the hypocrisy.
When I worked at a school about 35 miles from where I live now a guy on school road flew his flag at half mast the entire time Obama was in office.
Wonder what Obama did to him personally? He was doing that years before Obama took all the guns and had death panels and all the job creators were murdered.
It’s because he wasn’t a politician. White supremacists are alt right, and as such have indepth theories on the deep state bureaucrats running the country. Trump campaigned on draining the swamp, aka dismantling the deep state. That’s what White supremacists relate to with Trump. Not because he’s a white supremacist. He’s not. And neither am I. I just know a guy who knows a guy who is and guy number 1 and I have discussed the topic.
The deep state wasn’t even a term with any traction though. You can look at its origin and trace its popularity through google. It’s not like it was a long held notion in the white supremacist community at least not in the way drain the swamp and deep state are meant to be taken by contemporary thinking. Unless I’m misunderstanding you and you’re saying drain the swamp was code for get rid of Jews or something. That has been long held as these people are obsessed with Jews running the world and shit.
You really think “I’ll get rid of career politicians” turned them on more than I’ll build a wall to keep brown people out and ban Muslims from coming into the country? I know a guy who also knows a guy and he knows white nationalists aren’t really that obsessed with career politicians.
Make America Great Again coming off the first black president, Mexico doesn’t send good people here, I’ll ban Muslims, surrounding yourself with people like Steve Bannon who white supremacists claimed as their own had no impact? We could honestly list tons of items here. You don’t think send them back being chanted against minorities got the incels going?
FWIW I’m not saying I think Trump is a white supremacist. He might be I’m not sure. But he has appealed to them like no other modern politician and it’s not close. He’s given them massive hard ons and they have repeatedly said they have a representative in the White House.
And no I don’t think it’s tax policy or the fact he was a reality tv star and not a mayor. He doesn’t exactly have a strong history on the subject which is pretty well known and came into office still on the heels of pushing a racist conspiracy theory. I mean we aren’t exactly talking about a guy with one bad comment like good people on both sides.
How big do you think the white supremacist demographic actually is as opposed to the centracist demographic? Why would it make political sense for Trump to appeal to them?
What does political sense have to do with anything? Do you honestly think Trump is a man guided by any type of sense let alone political?
If he had political sense he’d be 35 percentage points higher. If he was just a normal human it’d be 30. I don’t think Trump set out his candidacy with the intention of capturing only the nazi vote or anything.
Some things don’t only appeal to white supremacists and no one else. Banning people who aren’t Christian probably doesn’t play that badly in many devout Christian homes.
This…and this is not just something reserved for whites.
You guys know this. There are plenty of people who hold the sentiments of extremely radical groups in their hearts, but won’t be out killing and lynching people or performing terrorist acts. Does what is in ones heart even matter? Yes it does because it will reflect in actions that will hurt people nonetheless, even if not in overt ways like killing them or blowing up their Synagogue.
@treco…the “celebration” (what the rally is called in the article) is still in Tulsa, the main focus of my original posting. While there is nothing inherently wrong with that (it’s a big American city, full of Trump supporter’s); shifting things one day does not change the original symbolism and why the Trump campaign chose this city on that date. (I guess his “schedule suddenly opened up”?) Again; Trump can do whatever the hell he wants to do.
And Trump’s press secretary Kayleigh McEnany really needs to stop repeating this (even if somehow it is true):
“The African-American community is very near and dear to his (Trump’s) heart.”
It comes off sounding like a Slave Owner talking about how much he Loves his Coloreds.
Trump is an old white guy who doesn’t have much experience outside of the bubble that he lives in. He doesn’t know history. I don’t think he is a white supremacist in an ideological sense. He probably thinks the KKK and neo-nazis are a bunch of weirdos. I wouldn’t disagree that he is a bigot or believes in stereotypes because he is an old white guy who doesn’t really know much about the world. He is one of those guys who likes the “good” blacks, the ones who act white. It’s partially a generational thing. Combine that with living an insulated life. I’m sure a lot of us who are white have family members whose views on race are similar.
It’s not because he is a white supremacist but because he doesn’t apologize for being white.
This is an important thing for democrats to consider. There are a lot of white people who are disgusted by what happened to Floyd. They want equality and justice. But, they also don’t want to be told to apologize or feel guilty about things that happened long before they were born. Take me for example: I have tutored kids in some of the worst cities in the country. Someone, white or black (Angela Rye, the founders of BLM) who has never set foot in those communities is going to tell me to admit my privilege and ask for forgiveness while they profit from the misery they claim to be against? They are the ones who will hand Trump a victory and then complain. Luckily for them, the complaining business is recession proof.
Mind reading again. Big city, in a state that has opened up from the shutdown, with friendly governor and lots of supporters. There is no symbolism in that.
