We only import crude because most of our refineries were built to refine heavy crude before we started producing so much light crude. We donāt need the crude, we need new refineries.

You actually made my point, but Iāll try to reframe it to make it easier to understand. All the numbers are made up, so donāt focus on that.
I own a resturaunt that sells hamburgers (the US). I have a small herd of cows that makes $1000 of ground beef per month (domestic crude production), but I need $1200 of ground beef per month so I have to buy extra.
I am not an exporter of ground beef. I am an importer.
With that $1200 ground beef, I make $2400 in hamburger (petroleum) sales.
So while I sell more finished product for a higher dollar amount, if I canāt buy the extra $200 ground beef, I canāt make more hamburgers.
When it comes to the physical materials we use, not the dollar amount, the restaurant is a ground beef importer.

You are stuck on this āneedā argument. We donāt āneedā the additional refined petroleum sales. We āwantā the additional sales. And the additional imported crude āallowsā the additional refined petroleum sales.

So Iran seems more and more fucked up case as the time goes on. Trump seems really frustrated.
It seems the gov. did not really have a plan (just like with Greenland). Unless thereās some major change coming soon it will be a hard thing to count as a win.
