Fine dude. You asked how anyone could support him, I just gave you possible reasons. You can substitute whatever turn of phrase is acceptable to you in my post.
I think he’s a fucking cancer and I have been anything but shy about stating my opinion on Trump, but the minute you put that same thought to all 74 million Americans in a blanket statement you become part of the problem.
As Jonathan Pie put it “well fine, but do you want their vote or don’t you?”
I think Trump did something I actually support with advocating for bigger stimulus checks. Got to say something positive with all the negative. IMO, if he had this tune before the election it could have been the difference maker.
As far as the Republican Party going forward…I think it’s in dire trouble.
The electorate is changing and has been for decades really. Texas, which is an absolute must-win for a Republican running for President, is now almost a swing state. Trump only won it by about 5.5 points. By contrast, the last Republican president to win it, GW Bush, won it by almost 23 points in 2004. In 16 yrs, they lost 17.5%! That is very significant. Within one or at the very most two elections, Texas will go blue. Georgia is just about blue and so is Arizona. Mich, Penn and Wisconsin were/are still blue at heart.
At the point when Texas turns, the Presidential election ‘story’ or choice will really be about the top (two?) leading Dem candidates in the primary as the Republican candidate will be certain to lose and be irrelevant. I think of it as California; the Republicans are completely irrelevant in the U.S. Senate and Governor races. But the Repubs can still hold their own in some House districts and congressional seats.
But on the Presidential level, going forward, one Dem candidate will be more ‘conservative’ than the other much like Biden vs Sanders was this year. The Republican party may dissolve into something else, or factions…who knows. I don’t think it’s healthy for a free society - especially the U.S. - to only have one major party, but it’s just how things have been turning for a while now. I’m don’t think this is going to change especially with immigration and the mindset of the generation of people under 30 years old.
If there is any change of direction to happen, it could be when the U.S. eventually hits a fiscal calamity as its surreal debt and deficits levels are not sustainable as almost everyone knows. At some point, the rest of the world is going to pull the plug on the dollar; the U.S. will lose its privileged reserve currency status and that is when hell will let loose and some VERY difficult decisions will have to be made by politicians, but who knows when that will happen. But a sovereign debt crisis will happen and I do expect it to happen in my lifetime (unfortunately).
Gonna go ahead and agree with this. If he’d been vocal about it and getting a second bill passed leading up to the election, he’d very likely have pulled off a win.
I agree that it is significant and that the demographics have been changing for a long time. However I think a lot of that represents a) a much bigger democrat turnout in the state and b) a vote against Trump rather than the GOP in the suburbs. I’m going to wait until it’s close for another election before I go calling it a swing state. It is troubling for the GOP though.
I don’t think there will be only one party. There is a very long way to go before we see the rise of the “inevitable” democrat president. Having only a single party is most certainly not healthy though, on that I agree.
I agree there are some who genuinely were finally able to put food on the table or make ends meet under trump. But that is a fairly small percentage of his true believers, and I think an easy cop out for his base. Let’s say 40 million still support him and what he is doing. 40 million are on good stamps in the usa. How many of those supporters am I to believe we’re not making ends meet, or able to put food on the table pre trump, but now find it much easier to do so? What am I supposed to think of the millions of folks who aren’t in that small minority?
Fall riding was great, but it turned winter about about a month ago. My bike won’t get pulled out again for a few months unless a long dry period hits this winter. Skiing is and has been the #1 priority, so I’ve been happy. This is from today in always rainy washington:
I mean, ok. I didn’t take your question to be about his diehard base. But in any case my primary point is that you shouldn’t be painting everyone who voted for him the same way. That’s how we got in this mess in the first place.
I’m talking about the millions who support extra-constitutional methods of retaining trump as POTUS, and continue supporting his actions like these despicably corrupt pardons. It is no insignificant part of our countries population.
Great picture. Miss snow and an actual winter season.
It was nearly 70 here yesterday and then dropped 35 degrees overnight. But l still have a lot of green grass and some trees have already put on buds, even though mine haven’t finished dropping leaves yet.
I thought it might stay warmer there near the coast, but apparently am mistaken.
The last time I recall reading about a shadow Govt in the U.S. was after 9/11. Something was reinforced or put in place after that attack “just in case” something even worse (nuclear attack, biological, EMP, etc.) were to happen and if people in charge were not able to operate for whatever reason. But I have to assume something like this has existed for quite a while especially during the Cold War days, etc. I guess it would help if I did a little reading or even a Google search about.
Spelled out for years in the U.S. Constitution, is a line if succession, should the President, for whatever reason, becomes incapacitated. There is nothing “shadowy” or “Deep State” about it.
The September 11th attacks did bring up the idea that we may need to think deeper in terms of the Lines of Succession (which is why Private and Public discussions on the depths of succession are still ongoing).
My point was that President Obama did not spend his valuable time after 2016 somehow forming a “shadow” Government with the express purpose of bringing Trump down. Trump has proven himself more than capable of doing that on his own.
Second, Mufasa is correct. There’s no need for a shadow government as the line of succession is clear.

Thirdly, it’s also common for former Presidents to be referred to as President Whatever. It’s also OK to call them Mr. Whatever or Former President Whatever. It all works, and if it bothers anyone it’s their problem.
At first I was going to start a new thread to expresses my current feelings; then I realized that not only would this thread suffice; I could always repost my sentiments.
As long as this man continues to sew division, discord and spread misinformation (which does not appear to be ending even with his Presidency)…I will continue to speak out.
For those on PWI (and world-wide) who passionately support him because a) he gave you what you wanted and b) in many people’s eyes is the greatest President the United States has ever known; I accept your right to believe as you wish.
I have chosen the side of history I wish to belong when it comes to Trump….and you have chosen yours.
