And then trump refused to send natl guard during the riots. Pence had to take it upon himself to go around ttump to do so… which is why it took so long to get them deployed.
Yep, the hackers just made up an email address and had the reset sent to them. Once they got into one administrator account they wrote script that set up hundreds of administrator accounts.
That means that all deleted posts are accessible to the hackers. The level of security was very low.
In light of these folks having already tried a violent insurrection, and by many accounts regrouping to try another one in the coming days, I feel like a temporary seizure of the known players’ guns is a fair emergency measure.
Or, at the very least make it temporarily illegal for them to posses their guns outside the county they live in, for example.
There’s no legal framework to make that happen without passing laws. They can’t just magically take them unless they want to validate everything the crazies think already about the govt
There were definitely nuts there who wanted to commit acts of violence. They did commit acts of violence and someone is dead because of it. Perhaps they would have killed some senators if they had had the chance. However, I refuse to believe that everyone there was planning on hurting people and I doubt everyone who showed up engaged in violence of any sort. This had the potential to be a lot worse.
Sure. We came from a different background and had it built into our country’s foundations as well as culture (frontier days, wide country with nobody around, etc).
I know police temporarily seize guns if you make violent threats or family asks due to a mental breakdown. I’d say a violent insurrection followed by lots of “next time” posting on SM would qualify.
I don’t know right now. But I do know there are ways (in general) to get on the watch lists that do not amount to enough legal ammo to prosecute the person.
I don’t think any of it has been through security footage. It’s all been through professional photos, and photos and videos posted to SM, most of the time by the people themselves.
Just being there doesn’t mean you should lose your job. Pointing someone out who was engaged in criminal activity could be seen as your civic duty. Pointing someone out who was hanging out while wearing a MAGA hat is cancel culture. I don’t think we are making that distinction right now.
