Trump: 2020 and Beyond

Weirdly enough if this had been done long ago Trump might still be President. I’m basing that on my opinion that the Presidents tweets were overwhelmingly negative for him after 2016.

Boy that’s a strange thought

If Trump is responsible for these riots, are the left wing media and politicians responsible for the riots that occurred during the BLM protests?

Just don’t fucking go there dude

No.

The BLM protest were spawned by a perceived excessive use of force by law enforcement leading to a series of high-profile DEATHS of African-American individuals. One can argue how the media covered the protest and how many Politicians were silent with much of the looting and destruction of property…but the media and politicians were not the underlying cause.

FOR MONTHS leading to the insurrection of last week; Trump (who by the way is President of the United States.…) inflamed passions and stoked division with the false narrative of massive voting fraud and a stolen election from “us”…

It culminated with a DIRECT CALL by Trump, his son, Giuliani and others; for this Mob to March on the Capital in force and with force…in order to “Take back “our” Country”…

It’s all there to see and hear. There are no “alternative facts”.

Any similarity between the two is strained at best…and a false-equivalent at worst…

That would make sense if I supported Mussolini. I don’t think you thought that one through.

Does years of articles and speeches about the evils of capitalism and corporations bare any responsibility?

Can you condemn both left and right wing sources for turning up the temperature? Can you say that both are wrong? Can there be morons on both sides that do illegal things based on perceived calls to action?

Start a new thread for your what about deflection.

This isn’t what-about-ism. This is about consistency. I am not defending the total human garbage that attacked the capital. I am not defending Trump either.

Find the inconsistency here before decrying it.

Cool. This is a thread about Trump.

You joined Nov 21st. There have been THOUSANDS of posts by people on here criticizing BLM movement and the riots all summer.

Not here.

All I have done is ask a few questions, I haven’t said anyone was inconsistent. I just wanted to see if there was inconsistencies in people’s answers. I didn’t think people would get so bent out of shape.

For the record I think most of crap that spews from Trump’s mouth is pretty dumb and has some serious consequences for the country.

I have a question as an outside observer. I’m Canadian but have been following American politics since 2008 and have been heavily invested in the Trump years, admittedly.

What I don’t understand is the defence of “the administration did some good things”. Aren’t tax cuts and deregulation like page 1 of the Republican playbook? I’m a little foggy on what the specific platforms were that guys like Cruz, Rubio, Bush, etc were actually running on, but I imagine you would’ve seen similar things from them. I’ve maintained since Trump took office that the real die-hard true believer types really only like him because he’s an intolerant and unapologetic asshole. They want somebody who tells them brown people are the reason their lives aren’t better, for example. They want to hear about the Deep State and the Swamp and are more than willing to ignore the fact that no other administration in the nation’s history has even come close to the level of swampiness that Trump’s has.

Not his whole voting block obviously, not 74 million or whatever the final number was, but a concerning number. The Democratic Party sucks too but there’s only one party willing to piss on the constitution and subvert the world’s oldest constitutional democracy.

I still maintain that Kasich was the best option in 2016.

No. Thought it through with the same amount of thought you used, just less words.

No need to construct some silly apparatus like the verbal monkey bars you put together up there to arrive at a stupid point

Ya just blurt out something stupid. Just like that.

Good post. This part is true for about half of Trump’s supporters which is a significant chunk of the population.

I only wonder how many of them will last. There’s no doubt that there’s a number of them who are true dyed-in-the-wool believers who won’t ever stop it. That number is probably at least a seven digit number. I do think that there’s a significant chunk of the 74 million who voted for him that are absolutely turned off by the events of this week and another portion of them who will just give up on the cause, the same way so many people attended BLM rallies for the Instagram clout who’ve all but forgotten about the movement since. It just remains to be seen how many people fall into each of these groups. Hopefully the Republican Party recognizes that Trump A) is dangerous, and B) doesn’t give a shit about the party or American citizens. Looking at the numbers from the Georgia senate run-offs it seems to me that the Republican Party has a catch-22 wherein you can’t win the party’s nomination without Trump’s support while at the same time you can’t win a general election with it.

On another note- it dawned on me yesterday that we’ve all been so wrapped up in Wednesday’s events that it seems we’ve completely forgotten about Trump’s other impeachable offence that came just last weekend! Imagine if any other president, senator, congressional rep, etc from either party got caught with their pants down the way Trump did with his call to Raffensperger. There’d be bipartisan support for their impeachment and removal immediately.

I would say Kasich was the option to have gone with as well. As for Trump’s diehard supporters, I couldn’t say exactly. My thought right now is that in part because they wanted someone different from a “politician” in 2016 and then fell down the rabbit hole-- all the way. In part they wanted someone to “trigger the liberals”. And yes, someone to tell them their lives are bad because of , though I don’t think it’s exclusively or even mostly about brown people. But yeah, people wanted a scapegoat.

I don’t think that white supremacists played a major role in his vote getting, but do think many people voted for him who wanted less immigration overall (note the difference).

I do think he pandered to the extreme elements in vague terms, but do not believe he was actively targeting them. I think his calculation went something like “people who voted for me must be good people, so they’re all good to me”.

Essentially I don’t think he was all that conscious of exactly what fringes he was targeting. However currently I believe he’s pretty much unhinged and disconnected so I have NO idea what he’s thinking and couldn’t even guess.

The real diehard types right now have no rational basis, whereas I believe during the 2016 election and term many diehards had what they perceived to be legit reasons to support him, and to be sure there were a bunch of people who just wanted his domestic policy and hoped it wouldn’t end like it has.

Yeah this needs to be emphasized. I didn’t vote for him but I absolutely believe there are a lot of great people who voted and are now completely turned off by the obvious shamefulness of what happened.

I don’t like trying to figure out exact motives or numbers and percentages of someone’s voter base for the most part. Particularly in this case because I don’t think anybody can know, because Trump is so completely different, and also because I don’t like the way media types painted gop voters going into the election. Too broad brushed, but then that’s what they do.

I used to think so, now I unfortunately don’t know any more. But yes, I view that as completely impeachable.

Probably so, but we’ll see. Based on McCarthy’s recent statements I don’t know if enough GOP people have pulled the obvious conclusions of this, or points A and B you mentioned above it. I hope they have.

Then your thoughts are pound for pound weaker than mine.

I said if you support Trump, you are allied with all of his supporters.

I don’t support Mussolini, he’s dead of course but I don’t look back with fondness, so how am I aligned with his supporters?

You’re a human. You are therefore allied with members of the kkk since they are humans as well. That is me making a statement using as much thought as you.
