Trump: 2020 and Beyond

Just heard Jake Evans, a republican strategist state that if we listened to Obama’s 2011/12 speeches he’d be counted as a recent republican.

What? I haven’t heard any republican sound like Obama in tone or points. This was on sky news in the UK. Is he right?

I hope you’re right, but there are signs that Trump has been stacking the Pentagon so that he can invoke the insurrection act, or declare martial law. Trump made a lot of changes at the Pentagon right after the election which is an odd time to do it. The Pentagon also stopped cooperating with the Biden transition team for a “holiday break” that the Biden team has said wasn’t supposed to happen. There’s also the fact that the former DS’s felt the need to do this. Why? I would assume that at least some of these guys are still in the know about what’s happening behind the scenes.

To what end? I doubt even his supporters would want to live under martial law (they don’t even like being told to wear masks) so what is the objective?

The only reason they won’t wear a mask is because Trump has derided it. If he told them to wear a burka they’d do it.

To what end? To keep him in office of course. Exactly how that would happen I don’t know and I doubt he does either. But from what we’ve seen so far do you doubt that he’s explored that possibility? Flynn suggested using the military to force new elections to happen in some states and Trump invited him to the White House to discuss it. If you had asked me 2.5 months ago if I thought Trump would go this far I’d have laughed, but I don’t think there’s any action that’s off the table for him. It’ll be up to others to keep him in check.

He’s a narcissist and egomaniac. He can’t stomach the idea he lost at anything. It’s the same reason he has to be the smartest one in the room at all times and on all subjects. “Trust me, I know more about ____ than anyone”.

This is exactly why he was chumming the waters for months before the election.

This will happen. Although a number of republicans have decided to become complicit in this obscenity, there are more than enough GOP to vote against as well as democrats, and the military will not intervene.

My first thought as to his after office years is “how can we shut him up so I never have to hear about another toilet tweet or midnight rant ever again?”

If he said hand over your guns, would they? In other words, the fact he wouldn’t ask them to wear a burka is why they adore him. Most of the people who refuse to wear masks aren’t following Trump’s example; he just reinforces what they want to do. In fact, one could say his refusal to wear a mask is not about setting an example as much as it’s pandering to those people. I think we go too far when placing blame on people’s behavior on Trump.

That’s the thing. I doubt martial law can even work in this country.

Trump is not the problem. It’s that there are a lot of Americans who don’t believe in the Constitution, democracy and freedom. They also have no clue about how things work. Thus they believe things like North Koreans brought fake ballots to the US through Maine. That shows a lack of geographical knowledge among other things.

To be clear, I don’t blame Trump for people’s behavior. Personal responsibility and all that. It’s real.

I doubt martial law would work either. But, do you think that will stop Trump from trying it on for size after the electoral college vote confirms Biden’s win? What’s left for him as an avenue to keep power after that vote? After hearing the call with Raffensperger it’s easy to imagine what the call to the Pentagon would sound like. We may never know how far Trump has gone or will go down this road but I reckon he’s dipped his toe in the water at least.

While I was typing this I just got a text from Ted Cruz asking for a donation to help him institute an “emergency 10 day audit” of the election results. So this is why Ted is on board now! He’s profiteering as well. I was confused about his involvement since he called Trump a “sniveling coward” before.

Trump enables the poor behavior of folks by outright encouraging it, or wink-wink encouraging it. When the person you view as a borderline deity encourages behavior and thoughts you used to suppress for PC and polite reasons, it’s a relief and you feel empowered for being right all along.

I’d agree. Trump is a symptom. The problem is that like some symptoms he can cause more damage in negative feedback, most particularly because of his position of power as POTUS and bully pulpit.

I think many Americans you speak of THINK that they believe in freedom, but because they have no idea how things work they also believe that “freedom” means “whatever I personally think should happen”.

If Georgia flips both senators to the Dems it would only be right of them to pay Donald Trump for his support of the Democratic Party. He couldn’t have set things up better for Dems in Georgia to pull off two upsets.

It may not happen but it will be despite his crap since the election ended not because of it. Of course a Dem victory is met with accusations of fraud (known before this even started). A Republican victory who knows how he would react.

The Democrats appear to be taking the Georgia seats, so in the short term the left wins, thanks to Trump. In the long term, everyone loses, thanks to Trump.

There are crowds gathering at the March for Trump/Save America rally in DC today, Jan 6th.

Trump made the Senate runoff a referendum on whether or not voters wanted $2,000. Apparently the answer is yes.

You also have to wonder whether Trump’s attempts to overturn 2020 election results - and Perdue and Loeffler support of those efforts - swayed any independent voters.

Election outcome brought to you by Donald Trump.

I know some people don’t like the idea of one party controlling the legislative and executive branches, and then possibly controlling the judicial at some point because of that. I disagree with that. It might be good to not have one party controlling all the branches of government but what is the alternative? You can have a sharing of power by both parties provided that they are adults about it and are able to set aside partisan politics in order to get things done. As it is, mixed government simply gives us obstructionism so nothing gets done. The members of both parties see their jobs as stopping the other party, regardless of the merits of what they want to get passed, rather than working with the other party. Maybe giving the democrats complete control will end up disastrous but that’s why we have elections.

I am rather more concerned with the continued damage to the democratic process/system. History suggests that democracy is not nearly as unshakeable as most imagine. No matter how resilient the American democracy appears, it is still some sort of dynamical system with a tipping point.

You don’t manipulate the process but the people.

Poison pill. GOP made a deal with the devil and it’s coming back to haunt them with interest.

I don’t even blame them for Trump winning the election, I think everyone was surprised. Just for their behavior since.

I don’t think so. This was in the making long before the $2,000 proposition was widely known. It was a great tactical move by the democrats to push that. I think it’s a referendum on Trump.

I absolutely guarantee the two GOP candidates declaring support for Trump’s efforts flipped independent voters and pushed democrat turnout.

And let’s be honest, Trump has no compunction about giving out money if he thinks it will buy him anything.

And that is the problem right there. ‘What have you brought us?’ ‘A Republic, as long as you can keep it.’

This is my overriding concern. That’s the slippery slope I believe in, because history shows us what happens when you don’t stay vigilant. This is why I am so against people from both parties violating norms and standards even if they aren’t laws (i.e. not criminal).

So who here thinks Dems stand for ‘democracy’ when Pelosi is concerned with gender ambiguity, “religious” politicians believe in abortion or mistaken diety gender,
force feeding the nation with the most ideological ideas that a daydreamer who has never worked a day in their lif can conjure up?

Enjoy it.
