Any ADHD/ADD folks on here? How has TRT helped or impeded your condition? I’ve been on Vyvanse for a few months it’s definitely helping with task based work and studying but overall dampening my personality and social energy.
What’s your experience with them? And, have you found ways to offset some of their negative sides?
I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child, on TRT it’s as if I don’t have ADHD. TRT effects dopamine signaling pathways, so it’s no surprise why TRT helped me with multitasking and memory recall.
I was never known as a multitasker before TRT. I prefer no drugs do all the side effects, Vyvanse causes my mind to speed up to fast, full throttle or nothing and do not like it. I have no patience on Vyvanse, I seem to have the want it now attitude.
Vyvanse also had that afternoon crash I didn’t really enjoy when snorkeling, not a time when you want to run out of energy.
If I recall correctly, if amphetamines speed you up its generally a sign you don’t have ADHD/ADD because now your dopamine levels are reaching supra-physiological levels… for me it calms my mind down and helps me focus on the task at hand especially mind numbing routine work. Reduces impulsivity and helps to get into that extra thinking gear. I stick to the 30mg and will not go higher it’s doing me good but the zombifying effect can be brutal… I haven’t used it on TRT tho, wonder what that would be like…
I believe my Tourette Syndrome caused what looked like ADHD, I wasn’t able to focus because I was preoccupied with motor and verbal tics. My mind was very busy. The klonopin then sedated my brain not helping with attention and memory.
Ritalin really brought out my tics and made me look emaciated!
@mike12 says it correctly. It calms me to the point of even lowering my blood pressure, but I do not react the same on TRT. It’s weird. I hate the meds anyway, so it doesn’t bother me to just not take them at all. I have significantly less need on TRT anyway.
I have more ADD then ADHD. I am not hyperactive and more a low energy/daydreamer and prone to procrastination.
I was taking Adderall for this but I believe I was also using the Adderall to mask some of the low energy symptoms of low t. I was taking 20mg pretty much everyday and would crash big time when the Adderall wore off.
I just finished my 5th week on trt and don’t feel like I need the Adderall much any more. I still take it at work but I’ve halved my dose and will often skip it outside of work. I also forget to take it because I don’t crash like I used to.
This is the exact type I have as well… low energy, ruminating, procrastination, understanding things to the t but feel unable to take action. Try switching to Vyvanse it’s a smooth takeoff around 1.5 hours and a smooth landing 8-10 hours later. No real highs or lows and not much in terms of euphoria which is what I believe people get addicted to plus very difficult to abuse since it’s long acting. It’s great for moderate use I just wish it didn’t have the antisocial zombify effect. TRT exacerbated some symptoms and lessened others. I was much more action oriented and social, energy all great. But also more impulsive, hard time doing un-stimulating tasks like studying. I think higher T stimulates higher dopamine in all areas of the brain including emotional centres and limbic system leading to the impulsivity and action oriented but amphetamines mainly stimulate the prefrontal cortex thinking brain so that maybe why it has a numbing feeling on emotions and social skills… May have also been a dose issue… I’ll give it another shot in the near future.
Did you notice when your energy picked up? Did you concentration and focus get better at all? If it did, when did you notice your concentration/focus getting better?
I’m only 6 weeks in to TRT and I also took a 3 week vacation during that time so it’s difficult to tell what symptoms are from what right now.
I would say the low energy part has definitely been helped focus is better but I feel more distracted and have been pretty unproductive at work the past week.
The unproductivity could be due to the TRT but it could also just be due to the vacation and the fact that things are slower during this time of year.
I usually go through this about once a year where I don’t get much done at work.
it did but opposite extreme - pleasure seeking, too much action oriented could not sit still had to go from one activity to the next or i felt like i would explode overly social and talkative to the point of annoying people and domineering behaviour…
I felt small effects straight away but these could’ve been placebo. I noticed some significant effects at around week 4. Significant being it felt like I did on Adderall without the Adderall . I am into my 6th week now and the last few days my energy has been down but I have also started a reduced calorie\low carb diet, so it could be that.
To me it’s about averages, on average I feel much better. My really low lows are gone. Energy wise the biggest difference hasn’t been that I feel like superman but if I am on the couch and my wife asks me to go get something from the basement, instead of it feeling like someone just asked me to run 10 miles carrying an air conditioner, I feel like ‘oh sure, I can do that’. That’s huge for quality of life.
Beast is fun with when you’re 19 with your boys chasing ass with no real world responsibilities. It’s not exactly a healthy state of mind you want to carry into your profession and family life in your 30s on.
Like I said above concentration\focus at work hasn’t been the best for me but this may be a good thing. This may be a sign that I am interested in things outside work, I have been reading a lot on TRT and also diet and exercise. So instead of doing work I have been reading about this. I also haven’t been busy at work or had any pressing projects so it’s hard for me to give a conclusive answer.
One other strange thing I did notice on Vyvanse is that I tend to “want” to be more social and talk to ppl but at the same time feel like my social skills are crushed while on the stuff. Communicating electronically is fine and even enhanced but in person feels more difficult to connect with ppl. Strange stuff…
So I wasn’t having the best week. Not bad but certainly not feeling like I did last week. This is my 6th week on TRT, so I’m still in the early stages. On Wednesday I skipped my Adderall does and I did it again yesterday and today and I feel great. No issues with concentration. energy level are up and first the first time in a long time I just don’t feel like I need (or want) the Adderall.
Could be a coincidence, that I feel better since stopping but I am probably going to stay off the Adderall for the next week and see how I do.
