Trouble w/High Reps & Breathing

Ive been athletic for years. Played soccer through highschool then got into powerlifting. Everything has been fine until recently when I was doing a couple sets of moderte high reps. Sets of ten. I got out of breath and had the feling of needing to gasp for air. I havent had the problem before at all and now it bothers me anytime I lift basically. I just recently started jump roping to build up my aerobic capacity and Im fine while doing that. But once I start lifting with reps over 5 for example I struggle to breathe. [/quote]
You’re saying the problem hasn’t improved at all in the last two and a half months?

Get checked for exercise-induced asthma. Also, double-check that you actually are breathing during the set - one breath in during the negative, one breath out during the positive (as a general idea). If you’re holding you’re breath during the lift, it’ll “add up” and you’ll obviously be out of breath after a moderate-rep set.
