Trolling in Real Life

Ah, here is what is itching inside my brain.

Art can be seen as real life trolling.

Or some art can be.

Not so much by being inflammatory but by shifting your perception of something which could (should ?) be accompanied by strong emotions.

Or maybe that is just me, trying to read a purpose into trolling while it is all about rustling the jimmies.

I think though, that trolling can be an essential part of something more.

hell yea. real life trolling is important. it can derail bullshit, light up different perspectives or just be a wakeup call. I love to laugh

I pulled this practical joke on my mom that was phemomenal…way back in High School we had this kid at school who somehow ended up being homeless…my mother worked at the school so when she found out about the kid’s situation she said he could sleep at our house for a couple of nights until he figured things out…anyway…he spent the 2 nights and then found a place to stay…

so…fast forward 10 years and I sent my mom a note from the kid saying how thanks to her he had managed to finish college and go on to a career in the Navy and he was now an Admiral and he wanted to thank her and invite her to come down to Florida (we live in DC) and watch his “Admiraling Ceremony” I wrote it as if a 12 year old kid had written it using crazy words like “Admiraling Ceremony” assuming she’d realize I had written it…unfortunately she thought it was for real and decided she would attend the “Admiraling Ceremony”…so…not wanting my mom to head off to Florida I wrote her another letter saying the Admiraling Ceremony had been cancelled as he was shipping out.

This continued for about 5 years with me and She Say getting drunk and writing up fake letters…mom would always bring them out to show me and my brother (who also knew the kid) …She Say and I would take the letters when we’d go on road trips and mail them from like North Carolina, Massachussetts…at one point we would mail the letter to a friend that lived in another state and have them mail it for us so we had like Colorado post office stamps…it was great…finally my brother figured it out because we kept making the letters more and more insane…mom was truly hurt and I felt bad for a while…
thats funny and clever. I know some moms who would get way too emotion but yours must be tough. good idea with the traveling postmark

I do this thing where I make like CRAZY FACES when I’m out with She Say to see who looks at me like I’m nuts…we were just in the airport and there was this like coffee bar and I passed it on the way to the restroom…She Say was siting waiting for the plane…while walking back from the restroom I caught her eye and stared like a crazy person at the coffee shop menu…stopped and goggled the display case…she was watching people’s reactions to my insaneness…it’s pretty funny hearing her point out the different people and describe their reacions…kinda like trolling I guess…

That’s just funny.

So…acting like an ass in public is funny now?

Just a point but if a “deez nutz” joke is seen as original comedy today this generation is fucked.

yes please do. I think I’m funny IRL but I can’t mess with people with a straight face. I gave the gym troll props because he did it with a straight face I thought he was serious. I can do two kinds of humor wacky WTF stuff or total prick ball breaking. Maybe you guys can show me how its done. I promise to laugh. Sorry for wasting your time with the original story
It wasn’t a waste of time…I just think I see this mindset often lately and I can only blame it on lack of creativity and following on a grand scale.

That is why the same cartoon troll pic is still circulating after nearly a decade and pople still post it like it is original.

It is like cat pics…in real life.

In the 1990’s that “troll” experience you noted might have gotten a slight laugh as a “deez nutz” joke.

What you wrote is sad in comparison…no joke.

It shows played out and trite attempts at comedy…that now actually gets a laugh because everyone else is so unoriginal too.

Well, someone had to ruin the fun.

LOL at thinking some grown man pointing to his crotch like that equals “funny” today.

I find that sometimes, people are nowhere near as funny as they “think” they are.

you are right professor. honestly I did not even laugh and Iwas there.
I thought this topic could be interesting but my only example of, shall we say " ball busting" or “fucking with people in a harmless way”, was a story so shit it derailed the whole thread. I love humor. sometimes its creative and sometimes its just how and when you say what everybody is thinking.
fuck my original story lets move onto some good examples of “messing with other people” now.

EDIT I erased the original story weeks ago and still? maybe we just start a new thread sans “the god awful, America is fucked if circa thursday is laughing at this” story?

I like humor also. I am about as sarcastic as any human alive…but what you wrote is just someone being an asshole.

Someone walking up to me and saying, “do you lift weights” and me responding “nope, and here’s a tip…do not play with wasp nests” is way different than walking up to someone who had nothing to do with me and pointing at my crotch.

This is as close to real life trolling as you can get I think, but may still actually be more of a prank. Real life trolling is probably more annoying than funny, think one chick asking other chick how her date with some guy is in front of other chick who likes same guy.

that was a bit funny. i was scared that guy was going to get beat up the whole time.

well luckily NOBODY thought that story was funny, even i did not laugh when i witnessed it. I was hoping people here would say “ha” and keep the ball rolling with good stories.

what scares me most about this generations sense of humor is that people go watch movies like “epic movie” or comedies with vince vaughn or ben stiller and actually laugh

Was mostly a joke, dude.

I still laugh at farts.

Always will.

Just the other day I was visiting the Grand Canyon, and while standing on one of the edges of the [non-fenced] overlooks trying to get a good picture, my brother said “move to the left a little.” As I moved to the left, I purposely [fake] tripped…

The collective gasp of the people standing there could probably have been heard from the opposite rim of the canyon.

I still haven’t stopped laughing about it.
